I was under the impression that the term 'necromancer' as used in the Bible was synonymous with a medium, essentially a person that talks to spirits. Unlike how necromancers are depicted in modern media such as tabletop and video games(one who summons the undead to do his bidding). Such as the one Saul visits which seems like a medium, but these verses seem to make a distinction.
>Leviticus 19:31
>Do not turn to mediums or necromancers; do not seek them out, and so make yourselves unclean by them: I am the Lord your God
>Leviticus 20:27
>A man or a woman who is a medium or a necromancer shall surely be put to death. They shall be stoned with stones; their blood shall be upon them.
Are they really just one in the same or were there people in the ancient world attempting to summon zombies? I know it sounds like a dumb question but I'm really interested in the distinction here. I mean there were giants during those times so it wouldn't be out of place.

I would be very careful when dealing with the dead. These are people who have had lots and lots of time to perfect the art of persuasion. A lot of the old stories about homunculi and alchemy are probably encoded warnings about the spiritual that have been demonized by atheist culture. Not that I would study "alchemy" in this day and age. It's probably subverted by now, but to be fair "Christianity" in its current state also is. But on the contrary you probably do have ancestors in heaven looking out for your benefit.

I'm aware, and I know for a fact my grandmother is among them.
Raising the dead is best left to the Lord as I'm sure you'd all agree. I'm just interested in this distinction is all.
I'm actually worried I'd have to talk my mother out of doing a seance or some dumb s— because of my grandmother's passing last year. I know she watches those scam artists mediums on TV and would easily fall for something like this. Despite the fact my grandmother was a devoted Christian who would disapprove of this.

Necromancer's raising zombies and skeletons is a sort of modern take based on rpgs and video games, so basically because d&d.
The word in english used to refer to someone who claimed to communicate with the dead. So basically it's functionally identical to referring to someone as a medium

I'm Catholic and I don't care. I'll pray to the dead all I want. I stand my ground regardless of what abstract categories your imagination throws my religion into.

I'm sorry to any dead people who feel offended by something I said. I am young and naive still. Please forgive me.
