It says all sin is equal in the eyes of God. That's not because there aren't more grievous sins than others. It's apparent to our conscience that serial murder is worse than pirating music. What it means to say all sin is equal in the eyes of God is to say it is all accorded the justice of hellfire. So yes, there is nothing wrong with saying protestant leaders have not so hardened their hearts as to commit as grievous sins as Catholic ones have.
