Has anyone else watched this. There's a crazy amount of religious symbolism in it, particularly Christian, and arguably its themes are Christian? I don't know it's really confusing but what does /christian/ think of this series (plus the movies)?

Never got into this anime for some reason. It looked too confusing. But I did notice the terms “genesis” and “evangelical” when I first saw the title years ago, as a Christian those words just pop out at you.

It never occurred to me how obsessed the Japanese are with Christian symbolism and lore till I got on this board. Even their video games are filled with them. Have you played the game “Sekiro”? That has some too. And the last villain from naruto, “mother of ninjutsu” and the fruits of the tree. What do you think they’re doing with all this symbolism, you’ve presented clear evidence that it’s intentional and not a coincidence, so what’s their game plan for all this? They seem to be weaponizing mankind’s inner connection with God in some way, or maybe their intentions are something else. One things for sure it’s more of blasphemy than just entertainment.
Also there’s one of the final bosses in Rurouni kenshin that is a Christian trying to establish Christianity in Japan and he himself is not a fan of apostate bishops. His church goes through a persecution by the government because of a misunderstanding…etc. what is the meaning behind all of this. I can’t quite figure it out.

There's no Christian motive behind it, they're just coopting Christian symbolism for dramatic effect.

Why Christian symbolisms? And why do Christian symbolisms create the most dramatic effects? It’s hard to find a single anime that doesn’t even have one Christian symbolism. They use it like no other entertainment out there. If you take into consideration the shear use of them then it’s clear there is no way it’s by accident.
There are a lot of things that can create dramatic effect. But Christian symbolism is recognized as the best way to reach the greatest amount of viewers. Maybe because all cultures have Christianity in one form or another, except for a few Islamic countries, and many Islamic countries have christian people living in them even though it’s frowned upon by their cultures, not all though.

Pretty much. Japanese do it quite a bit.
It'd be nice if it was more sincere, but honestly, we have a lot of work to do in Japan if that's the goal.
On a sidenote, Emperor Hirohito once asked General MacArthur if it'd be a good idea that his people become Christian (this was after the war). MacArthur rejected the notion. He didn't want America to have any influence on religion. Instead, he pozzed Japan with faggotry and rampant capitalism and media. Goes to show that USA is just as lost and in the gutter. It's no better than Japan and needs work too.

Oh, and another thing, guess where the biggest Japanese population of Christians was before WW2?
Nagasaki.
Gets the noggin joggin, doesn't it? Not only did MacArthur prevent Hirohito from encouraging his people to become Christian after the war, it was Americans who wiped out most of the Japanese Christians during the war in the first place. And now we have American Christians themselves cheering it on as some kind of noble deed, pumping their chest as some kind of "necessary evil". It's sick. America probably needs a bigger intervention than even Japan.

It's basically the oriental counterpart to the occidental use of the cool parts of Buddhist and Taoist philosophy.
Warrior monks - Battle nuns
Vague reference to yin-yang - Vague reference to the Fruit of Good and Evil or the Crucifixion
kami/buddhist gods as fighters - angels and saints as fighters
fight taoist immortal at the end - fight God at the end
enlightenment and ego death as a spooky thing - Salvation and heaven as a spooky thing
But of course they use it Christianity more than we use buddhism/taoism because Christianity is more concrete, more widespread, and cooler.

That’s what 2011 did to Japan in a way. The satanists read the Bible to understand their enemy (Almighty God) better. In it it’s evident that if a righteous man and his family are in danger when God wants to destroy a city (Sodom and Gomorrah), God holds back that destruction till the righteous have escaped.
So, it turns out that the governments build their nuclear power plants in areas very sensitive to natural disasters, the satanist’s way of keeping mankind hostage and guaranteeing that God will think twice before striking. Making it impossible to strike evil cities without casualties to the righteous.
So in 2011 God decided it’s time to show mankind that He cannot he controlled and struck with an earthquake, that lead to a tsunami, that lead to a nuclear meltdown, that lead to a permanent problem that has been the downfall of the Japanese government, as it was for communist Russia with Chernobyl. Earthquake, flood, pestilence in the form of radiation, economic downfall (famine/poverty), and of course death. I think japan is learning to not ask for permission from America in order to worship The Father through the Son. Japan should be a lesson to all nations, you can’t control The Father. He will always win in the end.
As for the deaths that occurred, I’m not saying they were all unrighteous, but a righteous man is more than willing to die for God’s power to be made manifest into the world. As for the ones that lost their families, they will always have God by their side, as long as they pick the righteous path. When Japan’s people learn of why those tragedies occurred one after the other, their going to be very pissed at their leadership, and it’ll be the start of Japan’s acceptance of Christ. God seems to have eternal plans for Japan, if only it’s people can accept His Son and the truth. And all deaths and damages done can be healed by The Father and will be soon.

Guess your right about that. Our beliefs are pretty cool and do make for the best story ideas. I guess they’re admitting Christianity is more superior than their religions without knowing it. Haha, they know Jesus is cool, and angelic soldiers are bad ass.
Thanks Japan, You know what’s cool. Bouncing tits and Jesus, that’s what it’s all about. Lol.

It's not really Christianity-compatible but it is my favorite anime of all time.
You just have to discern the fact that it's an anime and not philosophy or a religion or whatever.
It's a deep analysis into human mentality and some philosophical concepts, but it's still an anime nothing more

Funny you posted this because I just finished watching this. You're correct about there being a lot of Christian symbols in the show but there are also symbols from other religions as well. I thought the coolest reference was to the seven eyed lamb in Revelation even though for some reason they identify this figure as "Lilith" which is a Jewish fairy tale.
