How is this even a thing? Doesn't Communism by nature violate the commandments "Thou shall not steal" and "Thou shall not covet…"?

I absolutely agree. Christ did not say get a sword and rob the rich to feed the poor.
Communism was mostly run by jews. They had no regard for Christians and this "Jesus was a communist" thing was a communist meme.
yeah, the part about sharing goods in Acts…
1) Didn't work.
2) No one forced them to.
3) the practice ended.

>Doesn't Communism by nature violate the commandments "Thou shall not steal" and "Thou shall not covet…"?
Christian communism is based on Acts 4:32 and involves people voluntarily putting their stuff together, not Marx's autism and forceful nationalisation.
Ironically, it seems only christians managed to get the closest to Real Communism™, with stuff like the Mennonites and Amish.
As a sidenote, was actually reading on soviet persecution of Christians on Wikipedia, and there a part where an orthodox Ukrainian preacher and his anti-alcoholic "flock" actually organized some of the existing collective farms.
Moscow shut them down because they were making them look bad by actually being half-decently productive.
It seems prayer and people taking care of each other works better than scientific atheism shoved down their throat, and the threat of Siberian gulags for missing the quota, go figure.

40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.
41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.
Matthew 5
21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.
22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.
23 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.
24 And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
Matthew 19

I believe Fr. Casey Cole has a good video on this topic.
He argues that the commandment "Thou shalt not steal" implies that it must be okay for Christians to have possessions. After all, how can one "steal" if nobody owns anything to begin with? With this, Fr. Cole argues that Communism cannot be compatible with Christianity. He then goes on to talk about Capitalism and excess before explaining the Church's stance: anything you don't need isn't actually yours.
When you give what you don't need, you're not doing a good thing, transferring what's yours to the new owner but rather you're doing the right thing, giving the person the thing they're entitled to, the thing you're in possession of and don't need.
I think it's a good video.

It's no worse than any other form of government, taxation is theft after all. On a small scale they aren't so bad, if you and 100 people agree to make a commune, then you aren't stealing from one another.

I donno. Something wrong with taking the product of one's labors away from people by using a gun seems unChristian.

Christian communism (lower case c) distances itself from Marxist-Leninism entirely. Because it uses the word "communism," it confuses a lot of people.
There's no set ideology as there are differing perspectives on execution, biblical support, and between denominations. However, the main tenets are:
-capitalism is exploitative and evil
-establishment of church-centered communes as in Acts
-abolition of private property (think factories, not houses)
-general workers rights and direct democracy
Basically lump all the collectivist and anti-greed passages in the Bible together (like >>835935 kindly stated) + modern critiques of, and solutions for, capitalism.
It's an interesting rabbit hole to go down if you have the time and patience but be warned, there are a looot of non-denominationals out there larping on twitter.

Well, the original meanings of the terms:
Socialism - for the society.
Communism - for the community
Then Karl Marx hijacked the words.
However, if you're against the ownership of private property, either just against the ownership of the means of production (Marxist socialism) or against the ownership of all property (Marxist communism), you're not Catholic.
Lots of justification for this: if you own nothing, there's no offering for the collect. There is nothing for you to give to the poor. You worship the state and not Our Lord.
The Catholic Church teaches that business owners are to treat employees fairly, and employees are to put in a fair day's work. That is, the church is against exploitation.

Im a capitaliat through and through, and hate commies with a passion, but monks and communal anabaptists dont have private property, and they do charity just fine.
Not big fans of the state either.
Nlt to say there arent other reasons to critique lack of property, but your reasoning is american and retarded.

Thanks, commie bro.
I appreciate your sentiment.
BTW, small groups of people sharing stuff is not communism. Families do it, for example. They are not the government and no one gets shot if they don't share.
Nor is charity. As that is up to the individual's will and is a free act and not forced by the government.
I can't see how communism where the government gun forces the sharing can be compared to monks and families. it's just a false analogy fallacy.
Now, call me an idiot a couple more times.
