Mark 10:17-18

As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. “Good teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

“Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone.

How do you Christians interpret this passage, why isn't Jesus Good, if he is God?

This takes place before Christ reveals himself as God, which he did first to some of the apostles in his transfiguration and later on to the world with his resurrection.

The sentence makes sense from this angle. Jesus, who has not yet revealed his divinity, is therefore pointing out that only God is good.

Nowhere in that passage does He day “I am not good.” Jesus asked the man why he called him good.

If only God is good, and Jesus is truly good, then He is God.

This one is easy if you read it carefully

>man desires salvation

>asks Jesus who most people consider at least be a prophet

>Jesus says only God is good and you are calling me good

He is testing his faith. He wants to know if the man has the faith to recognize that he is God incarnate. That is what will lead him to salvation

Jesus literally calls himself the Good Shepherd. He never said he is not good. Jesus in fact is calling himself God here, by saying when he says he is the Good Shepherd he is calling himself God. Stop listening to Mohammedans, there is not one smart Mohammedan.

I think that it means that no one or nothing can be good out of itself - only God is the source of all good.

Except they’re all saying the same thing. You’re being stupid on purpose.
