I bring up statistics.
>Compared to the general population Catholic Priests are at or less than the general population. I can't find a decisive figure for the percentages of either. So we'll use the worst stat I can find of 4% of Catholic priests are pedophiles. The general population is estimated to be 3.0%-5.2% pedophiles. And this is likely to be much higher as a lot of people won't admit to being pedophiles. And if we look at stats about 20% of women and 15% of men were violated as children by an adult, so could be even higher.
>Furthermore, other professionals such as teachers, doctors, lawyers have much higher rates of pedophilia and abuse than the Catholic Priests.
>Other denominations also have similar rates of pedophilia to the Catholic clergy.
>My reason for bringing these last few points up is the fact that it seems only Catholic pedophilia is brought into the media constantly, even if it hasn't even been proven yet. Heck, I'm guilty of not even following abuse stories to the finish so I don't know which priests are guilty.
>Finally and the bit I like to emphasize as most people who bring this up tend to be pro-sodomy. 97.5% of the sexual abuse of minors is done to male children. Priests can only be male. 97.5% of sexual abuse is done by homosexuals. Homosexuals should not be allowed in the Priesthood. If you were to take away the homosexuals that do this abuse the pedophilia rate among priests would drop down so very much that they wouldn't be comparable to the other stats I've brought up before.
>What about the violence of it's past?
>Simply the crusades were justified (aside from the 4th) and Muslim had been screwing over Europe for centuries before they tried to push into Rome and sacked St. Peter's basilica. So they kinda pushed Catholics into the crusades. they should have helped their brothers much sooner, and also put an end to Islam while they were at it
>Inquisitions: Just do some research it's grossly over-exaggerated. Protestant propaganda the most of it. Jewish, Atheist and Protestant scholars attest to this. It was one of the fairest courts in the land that people went out of their way to ask for.
>Burning Witches: We abolished that, and it's brought up much more than it actually happened.
>If you think the violence of the past is wrong, how do you deal with being a representative of it in a way?
I don't.
Even if I did, it doesn't change the fact this is God's Church and the sins of its people doesn't change that fact.
