The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Is it wrong to believe in an omniscient "God" of sorts, but without conforming to many of the strict Christian teachings? I have always believed that if the Lord gave us life, He would want us to live our lives for others, but also have ourselves be happy, without having to worry about things like experiencing eternal damnation if we don't confess to (in my opinion) sins like masturbation, which neither harms us nor anyone else. I was raised as a Christian and I always believed in the Bible as a book created not as something we need to strictly abide by or we go to Hell, but something that outlined moral behavior and how you should live for others, without selfishness or greed. It didn't make much sense to me that God himself would speak to those people Himself and tell them to write His teachings in a book.

Sins can only be comprehended with a fully Christian mind set (Truthfully and Objectively Catholic or Orthodox). Evidence of this; if you believe you are more correct than the Bible is self idolatry.

I do not how ever blame you, Christianity is a mystery until you comprehend the meaning of Christ and his sacrifice. So your question here

>Is it wrong to believe in an omniscient "God" of sorts, but without conforming to many of the strict Christian teachings?

It is only wrong as so far as you deny the truth. You cannot yet be blaimed for this seperation of truth and self-idealogy. You are afflicted by the ways of the world, yoy may blame the time of "enlightenment" on this if you wish (you should it is the truth).

God comming forth as men presented a new revalation of man. He was the God of all, and he was loving of all. He in the flesh, Jesus Christ the man taught what sin truly was, it was the disobeying of God in the heart. I know you may not see this quite yet, but when we masturbate we are doing nothing but fulfilling our passions of flesh.

An important thing to note; God is all purposeful. Everything he does he does for a purpose, and for every purpose there is he fulfills. There is no purpose for masturbation, and as such it denies God in the heart. (Note; purpose in the context of Holy Fulfilment)

You should obey the Bible, as the Bible is the only way of knowing the Word, as the word made flesh. It'll bring light to the truth that was written on your heart, for you where made in God's image, and you where to fulfill his purpose as he would fulfill his purpose on earth.

Be like Christ anon, and you'll be unbound by the reflection of your flesh.

Sounds like an elaborate excuse to sin without repenting but ok

You need to clarify your thoughts, OP.

Do you believe in God the Father almighty? Do you believe in the Holy Spirit?

Do you believe in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, God's only son?

Do you believe in the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting?

>without having to worry about things like experiencing eternal damnation if we don't confess to (in my opinion) sins like masturbation, which neither harms us nor anyone else.

Literalists will call me a gnostic but to be fair… God doesn't really "judges you" when you die. I mean, in a sense He judges you since He's omniscient, and He definitely will judge the entire world at the end… But, at the time of your death, it won't be God who will send you to hell but yourself.

I think C.S Lewis put it better than me :

>People often think of Christian morality as a kind of bargain in which God says, "If you keep a lot of rules I'll reward you, and if you don't I'll do the other thing." I do not think that is the best way of looking at it. I would much rather say that every time you make a choice you are turning the central part of you, the part of you that chooses, into something a little different from what it was before. And taking your life,as a whole, with all your innumerable choices, all your life long you are slowly turning this central thing either into a heavenly creature or into a hellish creature:

Yes, masturbation might not harm others but it harms yourself even if you can't feel it (people usually feel shame but you might be so desentisized that it doesn't happen anymore…

Excellent texts right here, OP, it seems like you're just justifying being agnostic yourself.

>masturbation neither harms us or anyone else

Think again, sating yourself with the lust of flesh, and for what reason. Where is it helping you grow spiritually and as a person, what is that reward for?

And even worse if you use pornography, think about what kind of industry and society are you taking part and feeding in.

OP here, I don't actually masturbate, I just used it as an example. Masturbation has always confused me, I'm really not sure why people do it.

I believe that it would make sense for a God to exist, because I can't wrap my head around the idea that out of literally nothing came something without any help. Life itself makes no sense, so who's to say the idea of God doesn't make sense?

I believe there could be an afterlife, and either way it's an interesting way to provide people who would otherwise do terrible things an incentive to act morally. But everything said in the Bible, I can't fully be sure are true, unfortunately. All in all, why would God want us to blindly follow His words if it's put into a book in a world where there are so many lies?

This made the most sense. Thank you for posting this.
