Ok, so I had an idea about making a game within a two week limit. Just in time before Halloween. Is anyone else interested in collabing? This is a challenge to see what we can make in a short amount of time and also something fun to do.

Here's what we need:

- Writers

(plot, character bio, objectives, dialog)

- Sound FX / Sound Engineer

- Programmers

(objective & environment interactions, a.i. behavior, UI, player inventory)

- Artist

(character, environment, marketing materials, logo, wallpapers, poster)

We have two weeks to submit a fully working game into the market.

There are two scenarios in my head, OP.

The first is that you are an over-ambitious programmer that has not yet learned how massive an undertaking trying to tick off items on a vaguely-worded list can be. In this event, I recommend you describe each item with a paragraph explaining how you will implement the feature, and with what classes or methods. At the conclusion of this exercise, you should gather together all the classes and methods mentioned in order to check how big you can expect each class to be. Breaking up enormous classes into smaller pieces will help keep such an enormous project modular enough for more than one program to work on at a time(If every class interacts directly with the player class, then you'd better have a clearly-defined interface for each of those interactions if you don't want a huge pile of tangled spaghetti). I've been forced by planning as poorly as you seem to be, to do the organizing after having implemented entire features. It's painful, unrewarding, and horrendously time-consuming to enforce loose-coupling post-hoc. Also, modularity is ESSENTIAL for anything even vaguely approaching the scope you propose.

The second scenario is that you neither plan to be a programmer for this project, nor have any programming knowledge. In this case, you should move this thread to /ideaguy/, as this project is likely to never see the light of day. I recommend you learn about programming and make some small projects to get an idea of how much time and energy simple(ie not AAA) stuff can take.

Confirmed for the second scenario. I am quite confident a month from now this thread will be dead. My guess is that you'll either get bored of the vision, be stuck without a programmer due to acting like a small child, or try to program the game yourself and realize how big your project really is. And that's alright. When this is all over, try to learn from your mistakes. It's one way people improve.

Feel free to prove me wrong. I'd be pleasantly-surprised to find out you tackled game development on your first go. I just think you're trying to run before you've learned to crawl.

Has anyone ever noticed how the really low end (dare I say crappy) projects get a ton of love and respect around here? Everyone jumps in and starts helping. But the second anything AAA shows up there's a ton of trolls sperging out with instant hate. There's some deep seeded psychology behind that. It's fascinating. Then you have all these obviously failed and damaged guys who've clearly given up on life who go around projecting their own life story on everything they think is cool.

The best analogy I can think of are male feminist. Not everyone on the chans is like this, but there definitely is a high concentration of these people. They're not trolls. They're just failed people who hate everything better than themselves.

Them hating immediately actually has the opposite affect of what they're trying to do. It reveals that the game is good, which is exactly why they hate it immediately.

I guess I might as well give an update on my progress before I go to sleep. I'm writing the main character as an ex-soldier now private security contractor hired by a government entity to help secure an anomalous area. Similar to the game Area 51 if anyone has ever played it, the protagonist ends up being the only survivor of his squad, but only as a result of the mysterious force selecting him to live. I haven't determined whether this force will be a creature, the occult, or purposefully remain ambiguous, but I'll continue to work on it. I have a couple ideas for an ending, which may or may not include some fourth wall breaking, but this is pretty fun so far.

I was curious if we could put in some subliminal messaging in the game. It'd be cool to experiment with it.

This would be a good plot for a slightly different game. It doesn't match up with the setting and environment of the game. Particularly the aliens, and higher power giving him direction. It appears this plot has the aliens as good guys in the end. This game has a cabin in the woods in the middle of a haunted area. Everyone who enters never comes back.Adding subliminal messaging in the game is a good idea. Let's do some of that in the script. For example, the haunted spirits start getting into the players head as the player makes his way through game objectives.

We need the first objective.
