We, the free people, in order to safeguard the blessings of liberty in this new digital frontier, do establish and proclaim this Internet Bill of Rights, ensuring that the same unalienable freedoms upheld by our forebears shall remain equally inviolable online.
Right to Privacy & Data Ownership
Every individual shall possess sovereign authority over their personal data. No public or private entity may collect, retain, or trade in such data without the freely given consent of its rightful owner. Violations of this right shall be subjected to due process and just remedies, lest our private lives be laid bare to unwarranted scrutiny.
Freedom of Speech & Open Access
As freedom of speech is the cornerstone of a free republic, so shall it be preserved across all digital platforms. No lawful viewpoint shall be suppressed nor any citizen denied access to the modern avenues of discourse for reasons of personal or political preference. The internet, recognized as vital infrastructure, shall remain open to all who peaceably seek to use it.
Regulation of Tech Platforms as Public Utilities
Any platform so central to public discourse, commerce, and communication that it becomes essential to daily life shall be bound by rules akin to those governing common carriers. Such platforms shall not arbitrarily ban, censor, or withhold service from lawful users, ensuring fair access under law and preserving the spirit of competition.
Protection from Unlawful Surveillance & Cyber Threats
No individual shall be subjected to unwarranted digital surveillance by government or corporate entities. All surveillance must require a judicial warrant based on probable cause, ensuring strict adherence to constitutional protections. Laws such as the Patriot Act and practices like NSA mass surveillance must be repealed to restore and uphold the right to privacy.
