Beyond being grossly overused and conjuring a horrendous massacre, it's not even technically accurate.
Before we get to the Kool-Aid part, let's recap some horrible American history. Jim Jones was a complex man. Long story short, he was a communist and occasional Methodist minister who founded his own pseudo-church in the late 1950s, called the Peoples Temple Full Gospel Church – known in short as the Peoples Temple. (And yes, the omission of the possessive apostrophe is intentional, as the name apparently refers to peoples of the world.)
While Jones called it a church, it was actually his version of a Marxist commune, with a smattering of Christian references thrown into his sermons/diatribes. The Peoples Temple was arguably a cult, demanding serious dedication
(and financial support) from its members.
As the Peoples Temple grew throughout the 1960s, Jones lost the plot on the whole Marxism thing and began to preach about an impending nuclear apocalypse. He even specified a date (July 15, 1967), and suggested that after the apocalypse, a socialist paradise would exist on Earth. And where would that new Eden be? Jones selected the remote town of Redwood Valley, California, and moved the Peoples Temple there prior to the deadline.
As you know, that end-of-the-world deadline came and went with no nuclear holocaust. In the following years, Jones abandoned all pretenses of Christianity and revealed himself to be an atheist who had simply used religion as a tool to legitimize his views. Jones said: "Those who remained drugged with the opiate of religion had to be brought to enlightenment – socialism." Oh, and Jones was a drug addict, preferring literal opiates to metaphorical ones.
As media scrutiny increased and his political profile became more complicated, Jones became concerned that the Peoples Temple's tax-exempt religious status in the U.S. would eventually be revoked. He was also paranoid about the U.S. intelligence community. So in 1977, Jones again moved the Temple and its peoples, this time to a settlement he had been building since 1974 in the South American nation of Guyana. He named it "Jonestown," and it was not a nice place. It occupied nearly 4,000 acres, had poor soil and limited fresh water, was dramatically overcrowded, and Temple members were forced to work long hours. Jones figured his people could farm the land in this new utopia. It didn't hurt that he had amassed a multi-million-dollar fortune prior to arriving in Jonestown, though he did not share (or even use) the wealth. Jones himself lived in a small shared house with few luxuries.

In the very brief and strange interview, Van Susteren just asked very basic questions to Puello about how Silsby found the children, and what she intended to do with them after leaving Haiti. Jorge Puello said the children came from an orphanage that collapsed in the earthquake, and Silsby was trying to take the children "to a temporary facility so they could be taken care of," providing no further details, and Van Susteren asked no follow-up. Van Susteren did not address any of the reports that at least some of the children actually were not orphans, and had families in Haiti. Jorge's final statement in the interview was "There was no intention to do anything illegal." Van Susteren than replied "Jorge, thank you, and keep us informed.", and the interview abruptly ended.
Van Susteren and the “Franklin” Child Sex Trafficking Scandal of the 80s
Only 9 days after Van Susteran's interview with Puello, on February 11th, 2010, the New York Times reported that police in El Salvador were investigating Jorge Puello for leading a sex trafficking ring. The fact that Van Susteren did this weird little interview with Puello only days before news of his sex trafficking allegations got dropped in mainstream news, was a big red flag to me. Journalist and independent investigator Nick Bryant wrote a really important book based on his investigation of the "Franklin Cover-up" pedophile scandal in the '80s called the "Franklin Scandal: A Story of Powerbrokers, Child Abuse & Betrayal." (Here is a link to an article about the book on the Counterpunch site). For those who don't know about the Franklin Scandal, it was a huge scandal in the 80s involving major allegations that political and business powerbrokers in Washington DC and Omaha, Nebraska were systematically trafficking and abusing children, and using them in sexual blackmail operations to ensnare politicians and other powerful figures. Trudeau, a noted World Economic Forum graduate, has been on a crusade against Canadian gun ownership for several years now, and, unfortunately, he has been extremely effective. Two years ago, the Canadian Government banned all “military-style assault weapons,” and just last week Trudeau placed a complete freeze on all handgun sales, effectively outlawing pistols nationwide.
And they aren’t even close to done.
Trudeau continued, promising to outlaw handguns completely, once and for all:
“There’s this sense that Canada responded to the shooting in Texas by suddenly turning around and banning guns. Troops in Ukraine will need to spend weeks learning to use the rocket systems that the White House announced as part of a new aid package to Kyiv, the Pentagon said.
"These aren't turnkey; these, of course, are systems that the Ukrainians need to be trained on," said Colin Kahl, undersecretary of defense for policy, at a Wednesday briefing.
The White House announced on Wednesday that the High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems, known as "HIMARS," are part of the latest U.S. defense package headed for Ukraine. The $700 million package also includes 1,000 Javelin tank-busting missiles, along with 6,000 other anti-armor weapons, as well as 15,000 more rounds for the 155 mm artillery systems already being used in the embattled country.
The HIMARS are a boon to Ukrainian troops as they fight against Russian invaders.
