co do gierkowo-sprzetowego, zmieniłem rozdzielczość na 800x600 w darkest dungeon, bo na integre HD 3000 gra jest niegrywalna (w sensie chodzi w 5 fpsach) i myślałem, że jak zmniejsze ekstremalnie rozdzielczość (robiłem to przez plik konfiguracyjny, bo w opcjach gry nie ma takiej możliwości) to dalej gra dziala w 5 fpsach, nawet zmniejszenie do 400x400 gowno dało. Kiedyś ta gra chodziła mi normalnie, ale wraz z kolejnymi patchami zjebali jej optymalizację, bo ni huja się nie da grać. (1.5h przechodzę jeden loch) da radę jakoś zredukować tekstury czy cokolwiek zrobić, żeby zwiększyć wydajność czy tylko kupno nowego sprzętu coś pomoze?

Tak patrze na tę gierkę to nie ma tam żadnych renderów za bardzo więc GPU przy tak niskiej rozdzielczości nie powinno miec problemów. W mojej subiektywnej ocenie problem leży w CPU. Z tego co widzę x220 produkowano z kilkoma procesorami m.in i5 dwurdzeniowymi.
Możesz w ostateczności postawić bootloader z ubuntu albo VMkę, ręcznie ustaw 80% ramu i 1 rdzen na VMkę i sprawdz czy giera pójdzie o ile działa na linuxie. Linux bedzie ojebywał mniej procesów niż klasyczna winda i może wyczarujesz te kilka dodatkowych hertzów i ramu.
