I never got into monster hunter because the thought of hunting down and killing creatures put me off. Especially since they have such wonderful designs. So, what if we could play in a PvP where it's one player V.S. a group of hunters? That way, it'd feel more like we were consenting to kill each other.

How do you think that would work? Is it a good idea for a sequal?

Monster Hunter has Dinosaurs, Wyverns, traditonal dragons, arthropods, primates, snakes, etc…

things that don't just look like a hunched over buff dude with at BEST some tentacles stapled to his legs

to answer OP as much as I love the concept, I don't think it would ever be implemented well as far as MH is concerned, the second the meta adapted to it it'd just be four guys completely shitting on some Brachydios or some shit because he can't turn or land a hit to save his life while everyone zips and rolls like maniacs

funnily enough the pic you posted has a Rathalos from the Stories spin off game, which is more of a Pokemon style Monster collector with turned based combat, which is about as close as you're gonna get to what you actually want

the only way I could see it working in a more traditionally styled MH game is if you as a monster went against even bigger monsters, putting yourself against the Hunters is just asking for BM nofun out the fucking ass

Evolve failed for a reason. You can point to random monsters and claim that they were poorly balanced (and you'd be right), but that's just unavoidable in asymmetric multiplayer PvP games. Take a look at something like Kushala Daora. A real fucking asshole to fight. You come in with the proper gear and it's a cake walk. How does that translate into PvP? Do you remove gear to keep players from shitting all over the opponent? Do you just neuter the opponent's move set and make it unfun to begin with? Your options are a game with a specific extremely limited set of characters with a single monster, or a game that will just be Evolve.

It's not that it doesn't sound cool, because it does sound cool. It's just not going to be fun for more than the hour it takes to realize that the game is a wreck.

If you have a problem killing creatures that would otherwise destroy the entire ecosystem if left unchecked, then consider why you even play games. Monster Hunter is about as justified as they come.

Not fully related, but you should check out Monster Hunter Stories. I hear the game itself is kind of a weak Pokemon knockoff, but the anime is about being friends with monsters and typical shit like that. Kind of comfy.
