Anyone else really like it when games "forces" you to take notes? Started playing legend of mana not long ago, and started drawing maps of every dungeon. Playing star control 2 you are pretty much required to have a notepad ready and from what I've heard in Myst, a lot of the puzzles require note taking. (By the way, Jungle can go fuck itself, with rooms twisting around itself in non-ecludian ways.)

But there are already maps. Fuck Jungle.

if you haven't played it, play it (or realMyst) and then tell us how many maybe 3 puzzles might actually require you to record information, the rest are pretty straightforward once you've figured out the mechanic

I hope you placed your artifacts in such a way that you can put the Mana tree next to both Domina and the desert, otherwise say goodbye to getting all the diary entries I assume you haven't done this since you're probably playing blind if you're drawing maps, so you can just ignore the spoiler

can't you just bring up maps on a smart phone or tablet while you play? same thing for taking quick notes… or just use a guide

Pen and paper will always feel better for this kind of thing and guides remove you figuring things out for yourself so only as a last resort.

I've thought about making a game where taking notes is a central part of the game. It would be an in-game mechanic though, you could pull up a notebook of some kind at any time similarly to a pause menu, hypothetically even during a cutscene.

Basically if you have a map, it would have no markers at all, the map details would be precise but very vague so you'd have to fill in the blanks yourself. Have quests but no quest journal or minimap or quest markers, you'll have to manually write down all the key details and instructions and names and codes. Quests would be designed to be a little cryptic so you have to think about what's important and connect some dots. The world would also be very "manual", you can't just get a pass code and then open a door that requires it, instead the door has a keypad where you need to enter the pass code yourself, and the code may be told to you on a completely different location. Dungeon puzzles would be just complicated enough that it's very hard to do from memory, but easy if you pay attention to thing and take notes.

Rudra no Hihou kind of has this with spells; in the spell system you need to write down the spell names yourself (using specific syllables that you can learn throughout the game from books or NPCs and such), and the effect will depend on the combination you do with them. Of course, if you check a guide you can completely break the game from the start since you can make powerful spells anytime only by entering the correct words

Notes don't bother me, I just want to be able to take them in game or at least mark stuff like I used to in Deus Ex

Yes, I am lazy and want to not have my notes fill up my desk.
