I'd be all for a disc version but the newer consoles make you install the game to the HDD anyhow and the disc just acts like a serial key. Kinda defeated the purpose of a physical copy.
And it will be greeeeaaat years from now when you want to pick up a older game but they're still selling for damn near full price digitally.

This is a big part of the issue these days, that and with disc technology (more specifically bluray technology) being stagnated garbage with its own bureaucracy bullshit behind it.
Of course this could be helped with the adoption of flash based media for distribution, but then again the last time Sony did flash media with the Vita and the game cards were pretty assy and they barely manufactured any and it relied on community outsourcing for manufacturing.
Course, unethical bullshit You don't own anything digital products shouldn't be treated like normal products you agree to this seven billion page contract if you bought it, also you didn't buy it either reeeeeee. Buying used and reselling games is my way of fighting the publishers and their bullshit. If they go all digital I will just stop buying their games and consoles altogether. By that point they probably won't have anything i'd be interested in playing anyway given what they've been doing to the medium for the last 10 years…the shit they produce now is getting to be so cringe it makes them almost unplayable.
