i never found criminals interesting at all, is it the campaign? the stories in these games are just shitty hbo basic cable garbage. The whole point of video games is to distract you from the real world not make you experience the real world. honestly i thought zoomers would enjoy more fantasy stuff like zelda or final fantasy, why do zoomers like these soprano breaking bad style garbage crap? they'll get more enjoyment watching Scorsese films than the garbage crap a bunch of brits wrote to "parody" america

Half decent driving game that isn't explicitly a racing game that is nailed only to courses. It's really a barely targeted niche. Though other driving sandboxes tend to be a bit higher quality, if lacking in good environments.

Got any more examples of this type of game? Or any populated multipler racing that has custom/open ended race tracks?

Pretty much the first big open world game where you could explore a city and drive all kind of vehicles. It's almost entirely passe at this point, since that whole thing became the new normal for video games. I think it keeps going on name recognition, and Rockstar's great marketing, more than anything

open world, solid amount of content, fun gameplay, among the first series to have you play the bad guy (bit of a big deal in the 90s)
these days it does seem to coast on brand recognition though

Oh I'm sorry anon. Do you shoot or run over random civilians unironically, irl?
Jokes aside, I think the main draw of these games is all the illegal shit you can do in this open world that you aren't allowed to in the real world. Once that wears off, the game gets boring fast though. You get numb to the shock factor and the game loses its novelty.
There are other modes like racing, stunts, and multiplayer death matches but I wouldn't say that's the selling point to anybody.

because its fun to most people - that's what made it popular, since early years children love to play cops and robbers because the fake "high adrenaline" scenarios are fun to play. just because you don't personally think its fun doesn't mean people don't think its fun as well

Did you just call GTA games realistic? Are you really THAT retarded?
Anyway you should accept that not everyone is into your weeb fantasy garbage. I rather play a criminal gangsta trash than a weeb shit any day.

The real is question: Why the little shits keep playing GTA Online, if it's literally Saints Row 3 but saturated with microtransactions? At least the absurd shit is affordable and can be unlocked by playing the game, while in GTA you're fucked with those illegal aliens flying their huge dildos. You earn a misery, but hey, you're living in California, that sure is realistic.

I didn't mean to trash GMod, that game is something else despite the outdated ass engine, still more fun than TF2. What fucking irks me is that Rockstar has become con developers after the departure of the good goys, Read Dead Redemption Online has been ditched in a well in favor of their GTA Fortnite edition, and the story mode is nothing compared to GTA 4.

Because it has lowest common nominator humor. If you can laugh at an Adam Sandler """comedy""" or Tyler Perry's work, you'll certainly find the 30th radio ad for Jerkoff Chicken or the 70th scene of a wacky criminal snorting coke then telling you to murder a mild annoyance to be hilarious.

>GTA
>realist
GTA has always being a satire, a stylized exaggeration of every crime movie trope eve made, the world of GTA may be "realist" on a superficial level but the sarcastic story never takes itself seriously
as for gameplay, it was the first game of it's kind (or at least i don't remember any other sandbox before it) and each sequel managed to be competent enough so as to not crash and burn the brand name, so naturally, it managed to get a couple of brand name die hard loyalist fanboys, at this point it'll take a LGBTLOU2 level of incompetence to deprogram GTArds

lol, you don’t remember those pre-2000 relics, anon? Things like Urban Dead and Hell Rising. You play it in your browser and get “action points” that regenerate in real time so you’re forced to stop playing after like five minutes and wait over a day to get them back.

GTA3 was kind of revolutionary being a full 3D open world game. You then had the whole draw of getting to play as a criminal and fight the law, when nearly everything was about cops or soldiers or even ordinary guys fighting bad guys, terrorists, criminals. It was unique for its time. Vice City and San Andreas kept adding to the formula and mechanics and they were wildly popular. IV was a reinvention of its own wheel, going for a far more grounded approach. The online was really fun too.
