Friends of mineral town was the one I played and I put so much time into it, I later tried some of the earlier and later releases but the former felt too dated and the latter started losing the charm and gameplay especially when they went 3D. If you do play make sure to go for the best loli which is ann.

Friends of Mineral Town was my favorite, it also just got a remake on the Switch and it's being ported to PC.

Enough is piling up for me to legitimately consider getting a switch at this point, stardew valley already has the PC covered and harvest moon always felt more like it belonged on a handheld anyway, kind of like animal crossing.

* Magical melody (hands down my favorite)
Pros: Good mining, tons of bachelor/etts from all previous games. A lot to explore. Plenty to unlock overtime. Horse racing. Absolutly adorable.
Cons: Cutsences and secrets arent good. Neither is the story. It's a gamecube game.
* Friends of mineral town/More Friends of Mineral Town. (Boy/Girl is 3D, PSP copy of this game)
Pro: DS game. A lot of secrets. Exploration is good. Good story, atmosphere and cut scenes. It's got mining and horseracing.
Con: The graphics. The mechanics. It's a lot on the eyes. It's tedious.
* Harvest moon 64. (I like this one better than FOMT.)
Pro: Graphics are surprisingly tolerateable, the story is good, the secrets are challenging and rewarding. Horse racing!
Cons: You can only be a male. Some technical glitches. Farming is the least streamlined. No mining. N64
* A wonderful life/Another wonderful life.
Pros: great story. Great atmosphere. The marriage system and animal interactions are the most intimate of any HM game. It's quite fulfilling.
Cons: Only 3 bachelor/etts. Bachelors are just terrible. Not a big area to explore. Mining is meh. No horse race. Gamecube game.

I second that. Really, it's not that much different from other games, but it's ten times slower. I played it as a kid because I liked the Harvest Moon on GameBoy, but here everything was such a chore.
