From what Tyler is saying on his Twitch right now (he's live): the person who leaked this also leaked a bunch of conversations Tyler has with Valve employees, those chat logs have a ton of stuff in there as well.
The source code is unrelated to the chat logs, the leaker intentionally leaked both to make it seem like VNN was involved when he wasn't. Tyler's not saying much, but these people didn't like each other and Tyler actually said "thank god this person who's been giving me a headache for three years is out of my life now, they just played their entire hand and there's nothing that they can to anymore."

Depends on what you are doing. If you stay out of any security-critical affairs your code is going to be secure by default. Otherwise you have to be really careful that everything you do gets cleaned up properly.

Some languages and frameworks are easier to write secure code in than others. Ada for example was designed explicitly with military-grade security in mind. The C family is notorious for buggy code. C is basically just raw access to memory behind a portable language. That's great if you want to have that kind of access and if you want to take shortcuts for performance. Games very often do just that, they make assumptions and take clever shortcuts, but this cowboy style of programming can end in a disaster.
