But seriously though, Astral Chain is the tits. I really liked the other Platinum HnS games I played before (to note: Bayonetta, Nier Automata and MG Rising) but this one pushes all the right buttons for some reason.
EXCEPT
for the camera controls. If I hat to complain about one thing it would be the camera. How did Platinum get it right in all those games before, but shit the bed on this one? I don't get it. Also, the early game is poorly paced, first couple files are shit. But after you're over them the game clicks in and things have only gotten better since then.

OP here. I just went back to File 3 for the money farming exploit . I'm pretty sure this barely counts as an exploit, it's probably something developers left in on purpose, and made it bothersome to go in and out of a file on purpose as a joke, or to make it harder on the player otherwise farming money would be too easy. Either way, I think it's a fantastic decision, to make money farming only a side concern to the player. You could go by the game as normal and maybe need to farm for credits by replaying missions, but since that's not fun (I mean, farming isn't fun, combat is pretty fun in itself), and since the focus of the game is *gasp* playing the game and having fun, then offering a money farming exploit shows that the developers know what they are doing and where their priorities are.

Someone in a very important position in Platinum saw the unfinished character model and said "lol those skintight shorts make it seem like shes walking arount pantyless-WAIT A MINUTE-we could add that in! Model the fabric in a way to make her panties more apparent!" and a dutiful employee (God bless his soul) responded YESSIR!
vid related isn't the best example of this, I think a lower angle makes it even more obvious that her panties are there, but it's still something.

I was going to buy this game last week but for some reason Nintendo Australia didn't put it on sale. NAU just simply skipped the second week of Nintendo Europe's spring sale (but did the first week) so Astral Chain is still $80 so fuck that. I'll wait some more.
I really want to play it, mostly just for the aesthetic. They really nailed that mid-90s (Ninja Scroll, Wicked City, etc.) anime aesthetic in a way no other game has done.

File 12 is where the real game begins. Before that i didn't really customize Legions except for attack power/speed. I also learned how to do proper combos while constantly evading shit.

I decided to focus on mastering one legion at a time now. Or at least Sword. The others are a lot of fun as well, but Sword has some sinc attacks that flow into combos while the other legions don't. Also, I'm still struggling with perfect call, sometimes I get it right, and sometimes I think I had the timing perfected but it doesn't work. I guess the window is pretty tight or something.

Just finished File 11. I know there's no point in fussing over Platinum stories, but goddamn there are still lots of questions unanswered. But knowing a sequel would probably just fuck things up even further, and seeing how I still have loads of content ahead of me, I really don't mind that a lot was left to my headcanon. The boss fight I thought was pretty bullshit too, the insta kill succ that he uses is already annoying in the first part but in the second part its even harder to dodge.
If they do make a sequel I kinda want it to be more open world, maybe let you explore the entire ark solving crime along the way. Something like Yakuza but you're the law.
On an unrelated not did you know the artist has helped on another game called "love & destroy"? its a shooter with dating sim elements. Japan is a weird place dude.

Now get to File 12, were you get to complete mission after mission with increasing difficulty. There you have to really learn how to dodge & attack, how to manage Legions and how to customize them to fight certain enemies.

A lot of people didn't like this game but I loved it. The File 12 stuff is annoying as fuck though and I got burnt out with like 30 more to go.
Ideally sequels wouldn't go in the save the world direction but more like Patlabor. Legions become accessible to all and change our lives but now Legion crime is a problem. The sequel could deal with some terrorist group trying to start a coup and the big twist is the board that helped the director in AC1 is behind this. More grounded story, more police stuff and of course new legions. At least a flying one and maybe one that is a suit of armour and turns you into a walking tank.

Beast is your friend to escape that. Beast in general is good because it has i-frames when you mount it. Literally permanent i-frames and the trade off is really hard combat so you can't exploit it.

Did you guys use auto-sinc?
Im considering equipping it in all legions, but some of my abilities with auto-sinc take three slots or are paired with shit abilities. Im not sure it's worth the effort. On the other hand it makes combo attacks ridiculously easy. Sometimes it feels like I'm cheating the game. Currently I only have one "one slot" auto-sinc ability and if all my other options were also "one slot" this would be an easy decision.

Can confirm auto-sync is pretty good, making most R1 cases in File 12 (and by extent any Pt Standard mission) trivial. I don't think I'm bad at landing sync attacks, but I certainly mised some. And now that I land all of them automatically, my damage output went up considerably. That also includes every perfect dodge and perfect call attacks (I think I missed those the most), and also every recovery becomes automatic. At first it felt too good to be true and even left a sour taste (I really didn't want this game to have a broken meta), but I've already started some R2 missions, and those can be pretty challenging even with auto-sync. So all is good in the world again. Looking forward to my Pt Extreme run, but at the same time I hope there are tons of missions to do on File 12 yet.
