The gameplay's "good enough", and I think it had its moments despite being just barebones RPGmaker. Maybe I was just a little too into it at the time because of the story and the art and the music coming together but playing in real time mode against the bosses was pretty tense and fun, especially when the siren sound starts playing out of nowhere in Enoch's boss theme

Pepper Stake gets the most praise, but for me the best songs in the OST are Front Gate and Enoch's boss theme. The sirens were the best part.

Are you seriously criticizing a game because the vocabulary is beyond you? Apply brainlet memes here.
The game was originally in french and one guy put work into translating it into english. So not only does the translator know french, he also speaks english better than you. If those are your two biggest criticisms of the game then it suggest you didn't beat it.

I just realized, but is people like this the reason why localized dialogue always sounds ultra-casual? People tend to complain that more directly translated stuff is "stiff and clunky" all the time, and that's always confused me since it's usually 10x more coherent (and doesn't have added quips every 3 lines).

Had the same issue with reviews for Drakengard but I eventually played it and it was the best bad game I ever played. I think some games are just really divisive and you just have to bite the bullet and try it sometimes. Maybe look up a "10 things I wish I knew" if you have very little faith that the game will be good but at least want to give it the fairest shake you can.

I agree with Drakengard, there is a gem buried underneath there. As for Unlimited Saga, the best thing you can do is watch a video on how to best play it. There was a fella who had a 100+ part series on the youtube. Once you get the idea of how to make the most out of your bonus and crafting it gets easier but like most SaGa games, there is always some Kraken or Dullahan that will fuck your shit up and wipe you out if you are not fully prepared or lucky.

No. The translation wasn't highbrow–it was just awkward (usually because of word choice), and occasionally outright bad like that other anon said. It being so janky was part of the charm of the game, though. The whole "competencies" thing, for instance, which I think came about because of a false friend or something. But it wouldn't be the same game if they'd just called them "skills." Anyhow, I don't think it has anything to do with how literal the translation was, if it even was.

I think in both cases, they were missing some extra polish that would add to understanding of what the game wants you to do. They are both better games that they were initially reviewed at.

I love Caligula, but I can't overlook the poor dungeon design and lack of balance in the otherwise stellar combat system. It also weirds me out that communicating with characters via the LINE app seems to have no practical use whatsoever. I speculate the developers intended to scrap the feature but forgot all about it, and it was accidentally kept in.
Caligula is a diamond in the rough. It's almost a masterpiece, and probably the best Vita RPG.

Regarding localization in general, one problem with brainlet tier localization is that theres 2 kinds of people in the field that get the high prestige jobs, those that just repeat the mantras they got taught in university because thats how they got their diploma, and those that know which dicks to suck and asses to kiss to get the job. Both of these kinds of people are not qualified to maintain intercultural dialogue because the former dont understand culture and the latter dont care.
Theres also a problem with specialisation, the good translators are usually experts in multiple fields who do the niche crossover of their specializations, while all the rabble that only "specialised" in translation is not actually specialised in anything because they are for all intents and purposes english majors, and guess who the people are that are working in large groups on multimillion dollar franchises.
Theres also misunderstanding of language theory at work here, but thats a topic for its own wall of text.

Far as I've heard with Unlimited Saga, in Japan it actually had an indepth manual explaining itself, which Square-Enix skimped heavily on in the west. So if true, they basically fucked over the game's chances out here on their own accord. Which probably resulted in it taking this long to start getting SaGa of any sort again.

I play on extreme, you can run up to the guards and CQC them all the time, they won't do much to you even if you're surrounded by 6 or more of them.
Compare this with MGS2 – if you get spotted and try to fight them you're doomed. You can clear a path for yourself at best or eliminate someone who might see where you're going to hide but otherwise it's not an option.
>inb4 play on EE
It's not as fun when there's no running away from them if you get caught.
Otherwise, I really have no other complaints. The lack of VR missions like in 2 hurts, but it's not a huge deal.

It's getting to the point where I use Cheat Engine in all kinds of RPGs just to make the game run faster. You really start to feel the impact of those two second long sword swing animations when you sit down and figure out how much of the time you're playing the game goes into watching them. In a flashy new game where drooling at the graphics is part of it, then maybe it's okay, but when it's some old-ass RPG you've played a half a dozen times or some RPGMaker trash game you're flagellating yourself with, then it gets a little harder to justify.

People knock Deus Ex's shooting but as long as you remember it's an RPG first and foremost, it's actually quite fun to play it as "naturally" as possible. Getting closer to enemies to compensate for the accuracy spread, leveling your fucking gun skill so that the spread isn't an issue, using explosive barrels and other objects to your advantage, and actually using all the various ammo you find when things go tits up. The guns are just as satisfying as any iconic FPS, especially when you supe them up with mod kits.

I just heard about 3.0 now myself. Gender neutral shit was introduced as an update to 2.0 by some fag named "Saytenn" back in 2016. Apparently 3.0 was released by RecDra in 2018, by the same guy that did 1.0 and 2.0, and he decided to work off of Saytenn's release and thus include the gender-neutral option.
I don't know French, so I don't know if Dedan's dialogue is more accurate now, but it is definitely massively toned down from how it was previously. As for the gender-neutral stuff, RecDra's comments make him come off as someone reluctantly trying to strike a compromise to avoid being cancelled into oblivion, rather than trying to shove his politics into videogames like everyone else, which is sad, but not actively malicious like Saytenn.

Mass Effect as a series would have been amazing if they saved the Suicide Mission for the final game. Putting it in the second game made it much more difficult to account for all of the story variations in ME3 (and thus cheapened squad content), as well as made the infamous ME3 ending lifeless and anticlimactic. Hell, they could have still had the hologram kid at the end if they simply made the Earth battle a massive end of trilogy suicide run where the entirety of your choices and all of your armies finally play out.

On the subject of TCG sims, Digimon: Digital Card Battle had a particularly bizarre design choice: You fight the story mode's final boss and see the credits about halfway through the story.
It's easily the game's hardest battle, and the post-credits content picks up where the original difficulty curve left off, making the boss seem out-of-place and the remainder of the story feel pointless.

>Division 2 releases to a shitshow of a launch, as expected
>It takes over a year of patching for the game to be remotely playable
>Game is worth the 9$ you got it on sale for now
>New team takes over, promises new game modes, hardcore servers, post-level-cap progression and a full expansion
<Hardcore gamemode dropped after implementation, literally the same as softcore, complete with the 2+ hour tutorial for every character
<New expansion completely invalidates all previous progression with a new level cap and no GearScore system
<All weapon/build variety and balance completely thrown out the window, unique weapons have all their special properties removed/streamlined
<Power Budget system is gone, most gear traits removed, all your previously owned items retroactively rerolled into the new system
<Enemies are now hyperlethal bullet sponges as bad as the worst patches of Division 1
<The Expansion is just one set of story missions and a paywall for a battlepass
<The 'post-cap' progression is a set of 0.01% stat boosts and random crafting materials
<Post-vanilla content is now completely unsupported and the expansion brought a fuckload of bugs, including making it near-impossible to progress through specializations and breaking drop rates to 1/15th their previous rates when they were meant to be improved
I've never seen a game go from quietly being improved to a fucking dumpsterfire so quickly, but Ubisoft can't help but fuck up literally any time their games start to show promise.

I was fucking clueless about this game while in college, but came back to it a few years ago and had an absolute fucking blast.
Once you actually understand the mechanics and the fairly obtuse exploration system it's one of the best PS2 era RPGs.

It was incredibly disappointing. I picked up DiV2 at launch hoping, and expecting it to be a step up over Div1, as the prerelease stuff was very promising. The game WAS better at Div1 at launch, despite the lack of endgame content, and i was excited for the raid and the various other changes/expansions they were going to make… but as you've said; it's been floundering for a while now.
I still hope they can unfuck things and make the game actually good. There's a good base there, they just need to pull their dicks out of their arses and fix the glaring flaws in the gameplay loop.
So far For Honor is progressing in a positive direction though, after the abysmal state it was in from launch to approximately season 5. New testing grounds changes being implemented are gonna be gr8.

>some sidequest gives you an upgrade which heals you for 30% of your health every time you kill an enemy
>completely trivialises the already easy combat since there's usually some small enemies around that can be killed in a few hits
>it works on the flying sections too when there are 9000 enemies on screen that die in one hit, all healing you for 30% of your hp
>flying sections become nothing but holding down fire and spamming the melee attack, you will NEVER die
>turn difficulty up to hard
>get oneshot by a random deer in the forest
They didn't even try to balance it. I've never seen a worse example of 'normal is too easy and hard is too hard'.

I replayed it recently and the difficulty thing is a real shame, could be easily solved by taking out leveling and/or limiting the use of healing items per life like Sekiro, as much as i love the plug-in system it's not properly balanced and it's easy to exploit.
>>16921249
Hard it's too hard only if you were in normal and changed the difficulty midway through the game, other than that it goes from hard at the start to what normal should've been if you make decent builds with the chips, to easy as fuck if you buy all the healing items you can get and install an auto use item.
But if it is properly balanced if you as a player limit yourself then is superb, fighting Adam with only fists and a few levels under him in Hard was fucking amazing, hands down one of the best boss fights i've played. My only other complaint would be how contrived some parts are, minor details but that could've had better explanations.

>Only mentioning Jewbisoft games
I know a corporate paid shill when I see one.
Fuck off Jewbisoft. You would be better off on reddit because most fags here don't even bat an eye to your dogshit games. All of your current games are dogshit and arent even worth fucking acknowledging. Other games already do what they do but even better, also you should consider suicide you fucking non essential worker.

I'm mostly playing EFT at the moment, which is similarly plagued with problems, though this is forgivable in comparison because the devteam is a bunch of retarded slavs instead of a bunch of retarded frogs.
