Ok cunts, recently I've found an interest in 40K. I've played Dawn of War but never got around to the expansion campaigns. I also attempted the Total War games but shit went sideways on a technical level.
Is there some sort of 40K and Warhammer in general guide for games to play?
Let's have a Warhammer thread. OP is a newfag to the universe/s.

Well, dow 1 and 2 with their expansions, and total wawa its the equivalent for fantasy, space marine, vermintide 1 and 2, 40k final liberation, mechanicus, those are the ones ive played that i really recommend to people.
Also, op, 40k and fantasy are different settings, mixing them up is confusing.

Download soulstorm and install ultimate apocalypse. The most fun I had in a while, although it's only good for skirmishes, and it's better if you can play with other people anyway. I'll post screenshots later. You can also play DoW2 campaigns, they are fun, if nothing else, retribution is pretty neat, but base and chaos rising campaigns are very cool.

Later releases of UA already come with a patches .exe that allows you to allocate more ram to the game. However, the game will always be very unstable because of the DoW engine not being able to take all the shit being put on, plus the coders aren't that good to begin with.
>>16897601
>You sure about DoW2?
I mean, yeah, that's basically the gist of it, it's even worse when you unlock terminator Armor, that makes cover basically fucking useless, you basically send Thule, and 3 other terminator squads and that's game. However, for the duration of it and the story, it isn't that bad, particularly Chaos Rising.
The campaign in Retribution is very different from the previous 2, though, it goes back to a Dark Crusade kind of deal where you can play as all the races available, and each race has a different story, and not only that, you don't only count with just 5/6 different squads, but you can actually switch between sending a hero OR an squad instead of the hero, for example, instead of the Tactical Marine here, you can send a tactical Squad, and ON TOP OF THAT, you can actually make new squads during the game, so it's basically just playing Skirmishes, and I thought it was a huge improvement from the previous 2 campaigns.

Admittedly, I just played SM campaign, and a bit of Ork and Eldar, but it's a shame if it is like that. I don't think DoW2 is not even close to being as good as DoW1, not even at it's weakest point, which is Soulstorm, but it's worth a pirate, specially if you can fix the multiplayer, because otherwise you won't be able to even play Skirmishes, or that Heroes mode.
>Excluding 3
I have not ever felt like pirating 3. I'm pretty sure it won't be even close to mods in DoW1 at this point, and at that point, I'm just better off playing DoW1, which is what I've spent the quarantine doing.

UA improves a lot of things done wrong in base SS, which is already good, like adding actual viable flying units, instead of just having one. It adds tons of customization to single squads, like different weapons for different situations, more so than the base game. There are a lot of research, and the best thing is the late game.
In fact, I'd say that mechanically UA can be overwhelming because of the ridiculous amount of options you have, and most of them are viable depending on your strategy and your play style.

I think the coolest thing about sisters is that they are a middle ground between SM and IG, with a lot more focus on suppression and morale. The flamers are pretty good against both infantry and structures.
But the problem here is having to play SS in order to play them. I wouldn't mind either way, if it's base DC, SS or UA mod.

The Mechanicus originate from Mars where they had set up an independent colony as expert manufacturers when the Emperor arrived, and in exchange for joining the Empire he had to splice the Mechanicus cult into the Imperial cult. But the Mechanicus cultists keep the best shit for themselves as a trump card, along with a private army of cybered up elite warriors with shiny ass plasma guns, in case shit goes completely tits-up or some crazy discovery is made (like something proving that the Omnissiah is most definitely not the Emperor). These are the Skitarii and they have their own history of exploits.

Skitarii didn't exist back when DoW was out. Back then, it was the AdMech which didn't have much of a military presence on their own, and the explorator fleets which were sort of proto-skitarii adventurer-scholar types. Dawn of War was when third/fourth edition was still reigning and the units and armies included reflect that.

Had to rewatch part 5 several times, but it looks like there was another psyker orb on the marine ship at the same time as the heretic ship. My guess is the two orbs are twins, like the big psykers from the last episode. The marine squad starts wrecking the heretic orb. Marine orb fuses into heretic orb and starts wrecking the marine squad.
As for which Chaos faction the villains are supposed to be, I don't think it's any faction. I think it was one of the many, many unnamed alien races in 40k that dabble in Chaos. And the power of this unknown alien race is using Chaos to create psyker automatons. i.e. the twins from the last episode, and the half-finished giant in this episode.

>alien race
Does it need to be an alien race? By the time 40k rolls around humanity has conquered the galaxy and lost control of it at least twice. It could just as easily been one of those offshoot human civilizations that were squashed and censured in 30k during the great crusade, though xenos might be involved somehow.

My question is where did they transport to? Looks like some Tomb Kings intrusion. Is the marine in the warp now? Or is he still technically inside that ball? In the first few glimpses after being wholly sucked into the orb, I saw what looks like some Controller/other xenos species.

The Horus Heresy happened right at the tail-end of the Great Crusade, so not every planet with intelligent life was put to heel, not every planet was investigated or taken over. After the Horus Heresy, 40k Alexander the Great conquered a lot but still left a lot unsearched. A galaxy is a big place, after all. The lore is shaped in such a way that any new species can be discovered and by that token any new Imperial colony or Space Marine chapter.

I'd hazard a guess that the tentacled entity was either Tzeentch, or something else I don't know much about. One of the theories I saw in the comments was that the two orbs are C'tan shards, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to judge if that seems plausible. I honestly thought the Psyker was a techpriest at first due to all the wires and that the orbs were true AIs.

Soon brudder. By soon i mean probably in like one year. There will likley be two more DLC packs for 2, heard people say it’ll be high elf/ork pack/orkrevamp as there is a pair that go together well missing, and a moulder skaven/dorf or something pack. Thanquol added as FLC or in wawa3.
Wawawa3 is being made at least but I wouldn’t expect it till this time next year. I’m betting on 2/4 demons, chaos dorfs, trolls, and either full kislev or cathay probably, with the nips and other demons and shit later.

Kislev is pretty much confirmed since they are getting a full army in the Warhammer Fantasy tabletop relaunch.
Ogres and Chaos Dorfs are pretty much confirmed since they said they wanted to get the main factions out of the way first.
So that leaves the Chaos Demons, I just really hope they revamp Chaos in the meanwhile and give them the Divided mechanics and units they desperately need.

I don't want more humans, human species/mutations or more fucking inner factions within the Imperium. I mean, sure, they can act as specialized units for the IG in some cases like Ogryns, but shit like Felinids are unnecessary and borderline furry. I see no use for them except for filling certain niche that other units already do, and try to make some sort of connection between fantasy and 40k.
It'd be far more interesting for the inquisition to deem these fucking things heretic and to start hunting them so they start their own renegade mutant faction.

I wanna see an Inquisitor who instead of going through a few dozen stormtrooper squads and hoping for good results, specifically grows an ork clan to use in heavy encounters like with Tyranids or Necrons. Also make a deal with a cult of Slaanesh and that they're allowed to exist if they fight against other chaos units, make them see the logic in denying Slaanesh and the other chaos gods their goals.

This shit is unintentionally hilarious. Even more so when you consider that this is not some sort of exaggeration, but the by-the-book method of what the Imperium does whenever a psyker does so much as show signs of possession.
Also, you're thinking of the Octarius War, which came to be when Inquisitor Kryptman goaded a Tyranid Hive Fleet into an Ork Empire. Now the Tyranids are perpetually growing stronger due to the constant fighting and the Orkz grow perpetually more numerous as the fighting psychically attracts more of them from all across the universe - and possibly beyond.

That being said, I'd expect Tyranids who exclusively adapted to fighting Orcs would not fare well against others foes like Necrons (which are a pain in the ass for them anyway) or Eldar, or the Imperium.
If the Orkz won, they'd probably launch a fuckhuge Waaagh! and rape a few dozen systems before it all collapses because a lack of a proper foe like the Tyranids leads to infighting,

I think the problem is that tyranids wouldn't exactly "adapt" to fighting orks because orks are just straight forward when fighting with very few exceptions. So the way they would adapt is just by becoming stronger and stronger, and that would be a problem for other races. Imagine an Ork waaagh but instead of orks it's countless tyranids as strong as kommandos in the best case.

That's just boring.
Exterminatus is something that shouldn't be abused, in the meta sense, not only it's an easy way out but it also trivializes a lot of the lore, it's hard to justify massive ground wars when an exterminatus would ultimately be more effective.

It depends on how you view Tyranids' adaptability and how intelligent the hivemind is supposed to be. If they only adapt to immediate threats in the short-term, then they will indeed feed into each others adaptability and reach critical mass, but you could also make the argument that the hivemind would realize that it needs to do something else to defeat the Orks because this pattern of events is not going in its favor, which might call for a specific style of fighting, like maybe something similar to the Tau.
