I don't know what build I'll have, I like fighting but leadership was key in warband to maintain a large enough army. I don't know how builds are going to work in bannerlord with all that new stuff they added. I've never been good at making builds without a guide.

I'm expecting about as unfinished as Mount and Blade original was. Keep in mind that didn't even have sieges. It'll be a slight improvement over that. But either way the game was still good if we end up with basically the same thing I won't be complaining. Besides mods will likely fill in the gaps with total conversions that will develop faster than the actual game due to greater talent pool that's normally how this goes. Lets just hope the tools are as good as they say they are.

It's fun in organised play. I used to play the napoleonic wars mod in a regiment and fighting in the massive line battles was amazing. Hundreds of players on both sides, fighting in formation with a chain of command and everything. They had similar organised battles in other mods of different eras too.

considering that the max in Warband was more closer to 400 a side that's a big improvement. Its pretty much double and from what I've seen more stable as well at those sizes. Warbands engine can't handle anything above 100v100 without framedrops and anything beyond 300v300 is crash prone.

The OG was in EA, they used to share older builds for free as well.
They didn't exactly finish the game or did all they wanted and promised until it did well and Parajew published and funded some of Warband.
I'm just glad it's not vaporware at this point.

First thoughts are optimistic. The combat is highly improved from Warband, archery especially. Animations are smooth, the character creator is far more in depth than a static texture slapped on a potato and the battle tactics interface is far more intuitive and gives you a visual on what each formation will look like. I'm having fun and I only just completed the tutorial.

It's really fucking frustrating because games are at a point where Linux/Wine compatibility are at an all time high, but dozens of games don't work for one reason: kernel level anticheat software, which is incredibly retarded to begin with. First of all, the software doesn't fucking work anyway because cheaters are running kernel level cheats (yes, seriously, they will do shit like spoof Windows random number generation so that it always returns a favorable result) and they can still get around it sometimes. Second of all, I have played a lot of MP games in the past, but cheating has never been an issue that bothered me so much that I would install kernel level drivers from some random fucking Slavs I've never heard of, even on the worst games I played like Counter Strike Source pre-VAC. Third of all, the optimal strategy here is clearly to implement anticheats up to the point just before you'd need kernel level services because then the amount of fuckwads who will install kernel altering shit just to cheat on a fucking game drops significantly, and they are at such risk to themselves you can probably expect them to format their hard drives within a year. I don't understand why anyone wants to stoop to that level, but here we go again with snake oil salesmen like EAC swindling all the suits into buying their garbage software.

Also the angle you swing your weapon is retarded, you start out wide about 2 feet from the horse near its ass then swing at an angle that goes directly for the horses head.

I've noticed this too. Even with a spear at 196 length I'm having a hard time hitting them before they hit me. Don't even attempt to outdo a horseman with a spear himself. Though this feels like it'll keep the game interesting when I'm a vet since Warband had alot of me kiting enemies in blobs while I got my drive by whacks in.

You should first blame her and then you.
The moment I met her, was the moment I decided to join Batanians and rape her with a wooden peg-dick.
From what I recently read on other forums, you can no longer hire a bunch of peasants, grind out for an hour in the Training fields and get 50 elite Panzer-Knights to rape and pillage as you will. Experience is from fighting, so your peasant army will hardly ever become more than that.
The solution is to enlist better troops. They'll take hits, and the few peasants you hire will end up surviving more often, allowing you to actually train them.
To this effect, doing missions to cultivate good relations with towns is actually important now, unlike Warband where you could mostly ignore it.
Another great idea is to enlist as Mercenary and then join an army. You lose control of your party (the Army general will take you wherever he wants) and it's frustrating at times because they'll keep sieging despite starving and you'll lose some folks to desertion. BUT: when you join a fight with 800 vs 800, your 30 man warband will take relatively low losses and the survivors will get a lot of XP.
For once, being a Merc actually pays off.
Bandit hideout quests need better gear now. If you walk in armored in furs and armed with a pitchfork, the bandit leader will clobber you with a 132 damage swing and that's it.
If it does so, you can keep going back in, over and over again until all the bandits are dead and you finally succeed.

If you've got stones do caravan missions. It fluctuates based on distance to the city and they'll get attacked by a group of around 30 or so bandits but I once got around 3000 denars so folowing it around and killing that single group of bandits. Watch out though cause archer bandits in this game are nasty good.

The poacher killing quests you get from towns are pretty easy, and the leather you get from them can easily sell for a couple of thousand. The one to bring back eloped daughters is good too, I think I got around 1600 just for killing one peasant guy, and if you manage the persuasion you don't even need to do that.

This alone is why Bannerlord is a bit shit. They need to remove that and have you start at level 1 clan so that you can get into the more fun shit instead of just grinding the same bullshit battle over and over. The sieges are the best thing about the game you get one of those 1000+ siege battles and its hectic crazy raiding good fun only thing missing is screaming peasant women in the streets running for their lives.
The debug character creator makes me wonder why the hell they left this out. Obviously the age is bugged because its tied to a variable that ticks up over time but things like Weight and Build should've been in the game its more impressive when you see that the bodies of characters were intended to have customisation.
There's a lot of stupid decisions on Taleworlds behalf here. At least they took out the super sonic speed looters from the pre-0day version. That shit was annoying. Its a bit fairer now.

Only cavalry = you are fast
Loads of horses = loads of cargo
BUY EVERYTHING that is green in a city until it stops being green
DO NOT SELL to cities unless you are desperate (will happen often early)
When you find a city with RED for any product you have lots of, wait for caravans to get near them, sell all of it to them (remember their 10k money cap)
Caravans use the city's price regardless of their inventory, meaning you can force a shortage in a city and 'raid' caravans that will buy out everything without the price changing over their inventory, the issue is that they will normalize the city as soon as they reach it (You can buy all their horses and then sell to the next caravan that really wants horses, plenty of them do)

It's safe to say that Siege AI is dogshit at the moment. Doubly so when you're the one defending.

found a fix for this for anyone interested, if you use the "campaign.set_main_hero_age" command and then put the same number you set the age slider at during the character creator then your character will stay the same after the daily gold change.
it seems like the player characters age is set to 30 by default no matter what you do with the slider so when the day ticks over it checks that age and changes your character to be that.
this should also work for the people who don't want their character eventually dying of old age and having to start over with their heir since theres no way to turn that off yet.

It's weird as fuck. If I had to guess, a bunch of units are querying some sort of pathfinding system, wondering if they can go through the gate yet or have to wait, and they're doing it so often, the game shits the bed. When teh gate is down, they stop and everything goes back to normal.
Hope they fix it, because otherwise, I love the new siege mechanics.

I think I'm finnaly appreciating how fucking good the combat system is.
Back in Warband, I tried defending with one handed/two handed and decided it was mostly luck (had to guess attack direction) and gave up entirely. Unless I had a shield, I never tried blocking at all.
I picked attack direction based on what caused the most damage.
Then this comes out, and I decide to revisit the idea.
IF you were like me, hit the arena, and spend at least 30 minutes there, trying to parry shit.
It took a while, but I can now see the telegraphing and block nearly 80% of anything thrown at me. A few hours later, and I can block a sword guy, turn to the right to block an arrow, block sword dude again, and take a couched lance without going down.
I'm still shit at feinting, but that's what I'm gonna work on for now.

Yeah, that's one thing I learned how to do in Napoleonic Wars, but can't seem to pull off here.
I know it's possible, not only do some of the NPC's do it, but I've seen players in multiplayer doing it aswell.
I think there's two possiblities here:
>Character skill influences the combat a lot, so higher level characters can chain hits much faster
>Some sort of input/animation cancel but it's diferent from Warband.
In Warband, what I learned to do was keeping the right mouse button pressed in defense, then click the left one at the same time.
Pick a direction, and quickly release the Right mouse button, then the left one. As soon as the attack hits, press the right mouse button again to defend and re-presse the left mouse button. This would let you attack much faster than normal by canceling the recoil animation with the defense one (that is shorter) and replace the default attack telegraph animation with a much shorter one.
It's gotta be similar to this, but not exactly like it.

I like how all the classic™ bullshit getting gifted a fief in the middle of enemy territory on the other side of the map, forest bandit wild ride, hideout bullshit, renown grind of mountain blade persists but now with more bullshit, like daily fucking payouts, an absolute asston of early game grind, retardedly expensive troop upkeep, unintuitive character creation and PoP tier combat on full damage settings. I love having maxed combat affinities from character creation but then get nuked by a row of archers, and at some point realize that if you wanna go for a combat build you have to create THE OPPOSITE of a combat build in character creation in order to support your crippling addiction to heavy armor and shields. Did I mention how arena fights dont contribute to skill growth?
Now PoP offsets its absolutely fucking retardedly overpowered ranged combat by simply introducing armor with such retardedly high levels of protection you might catch 2 quiverful of bodkin with your teeth and live to win the battle. Guess what Butterlord does not do.
Also retarded archer AI sometimes only start shooting when the enemy is in throwing distance for some reason, at other times pelts you with laser accurate shots from across the map.

Also to counter the memory leak you can lower texture streaming to the lowest setting, and you can turn down textures completely which will make the game look like a bowl of slop but will buy you 2-3 more hours before needing to restart. If you encounter the issue where you turn extremely slowly and choppily, get Battle Encoder Shirase and limit the game to 95% CPU. The game is so unoptimized it occasionally escalates its processing priority to the point it actually takes cycles from your mouse movement.

300 in athletics is 18% movespeed (21 with trait)
That's a huge difference, sounds small, but playing with it, it's yuge
Except 275 trait in two hander gives 15% movespeed right out of the bat, so it's better to horse two hand until 275, and then bother leveling athletics, if at all
But let me tell you, two hander walking dude is the ultimate killing machine, because halberds do not cleave through like a two hander does

Yes, they fixed it in patch e1.0.1 a day before your post. If you have it installed via Steam, you have to manually install the patches by right-clicking on the game in your library, going to properties, going to the beta tab, and opting into the beta for the latest patch. The game seems very good at utilizing multiple cores, since it spreads the load out very well, and has never actually maxed out my CPU. My video card is what is bottlenecking me. If you don't play on a monitor that runs at 144hz and don't encounter some of the weird performance errors other people are having, then a rig similar to mine should run the game near perfectly.

Leadership seems to only increase when you lead armies
One trick is to enter the clan window and order a companion to start a party, donate some soldiers to get them to at least 40% soldier capacity, then join a kingdom, then you get access to armies, create one in the kingdom window and order your companion to join you, it costs you nothing, you get extra soldiers since your companion has its own soldier capacity and you level leadership just by existing as long as you keep the army up, you can cancel and redo it at will.
Siege requires actual doing sieges, Charm is by doing quests for nobles.

I had leadership increase once when I recruited some guys, no idea why it was and it hasn't happened again. Charm can also increase when you help lords in battles they would otherwise lose.
But yeah, training non-combat skills is painfully slow right now, except roguery since all you have to do is sit there raiding a village.

I was able to get it running at a good framerate by dropping the quality to very low and reducing the resolution to around 30-40 or so in addtion to other tweaking based on guides I found online
Sadly it still stutters when i'm in combat or in towns. Plus the lower resolution seems to make it harder to shoot enemies.
I think I'll just have to upgrade my computer, eet an SSD, some more ram and whatever else. No sture I even can do so since I'm using a laptop

I'm not quite sure. When I tried the mod that added armors I had no luck at all finding them even after days of waiting, but now with the official patch I finally found some new Batannian armor that isn't peasant wear.
Restarting to a new game isn't necessary at least, as I tried that already. I think it has something to do either with the town's prosperity, or it's just plain random luck.
Not every town will have the same fancy gear, so my best bet would be to check the wealthiest ones often.

The game gets updated daily too. I don't recommend buying it in it's current state but you should probably wait a few weeks for the daily patches to make it playable. Alright, anons. I was going to add more companions to the game, because it seems like there aren't any, and when I found the file that stored the companions, I realized that there were about 80 templates for companions, with only a few of them enabled. The ones that were disabled were missing the is_template flag. I manually added the flag to every missing entry, and then tested it. The missing companions now spawn, and even have backstories. Companions also cover skills such as stewardship, leadership, engineering, trade, etc. I was wondering why they were disabled, but then I remembered that over 200 items were accidentally omitted from singleplayer, and that it was probably overlooked.
I haven't shared this anywhere else. If you want to enable the companions, the file you need to edit is spspecialcharacters.xml, located in Modules\Sandbox\ModuleData. If you'd rather not do it yourself, here is the file that I edited, to overwrite the old file.

The only problem, as far as I can tell, is that a little over 20 wanderers actually spawn, and it's when the world is created. You'll have to start a new game, and without a mod that increases the number of companions that spawn, you'll obviously not see 3/4 of the companions. A mod like that exists somewhere on the nexus, because I remember seeing it at one point.

I had some issues with mods but theres 2 on the nexus that solve most of them, one is a fixed launcher that uses a proper load order script and the other is an automatic unblocker which unblocks the xml and dll files that when blocked crash your game on startup.

yeah, you can solo groups of 180 looters with this, they also can't handle it in groups. The only thing that stops this are bows ,thrown weapons or horses, everyone else will just die

It probably will. The same thing was possible with bows in the release version, but they fixed that by adding a stagger animation that triggers when you get too close to the enemy while holding a ranged weapon.

I usually had the opposite problem. When I tried flanking a standing position in a siege and stabbing someone in the back the guy I was attacking would just do a 180, block my strike, then turn his back to me again.

You can get a perk that makes breaking down weapons more efficient, that's it. I hate how the smithing perks work frankly.
You either reduce the grind for materials or reduce the grind for parts, but there's still a big grind either way. It would be far better if you could specialise into certain types of weapons, as opposed to deciding between being able to smith materials or smith better weapons.

As much as I like the game, it's pretty obvious that the majority of the 8 years of development was spent developing the new engine. Because if you take away the shiny new graphics and physics, it's just worse Warband. Pretty much all of the new features are either buggy as shit or flat out don't work.

In many many ways the original MB-W still looks better than Bannerlord, especially if you consider mods. Yeah it's a little more HD, but the face of every NPC looks retarded. And as far as features it just shit.
