And embedded images become larger because they get base64 encoded (represented as characters).
Use epub for ebooks (because it has a table of contents and other book metadata) and odt for documents (is like docx a zip file containing XHtml, CSS and the binary images/videos/whatever).
Store scans as zipped jpgs and name the zip files .cbz. You can open those with a lot of viewers.

I believe hydrus may be able to solve some users' problems here, particularly managing many many files locally rather than having to rely on remote locations. There are three caveats:
1) Hydrus is not currently great at handling paged media. It can do it, but the workflow is a little awkward. I plan to improve this in future.
2) IPFS support is prototype, and mostly for advanced users who are already comfortable with the program. I'm working on it now.

I think a good system of tagging material should be to allow the community to create tags but regularly purge the under utilized ones to avoid bloat. That way people aren't relying on admins to tag things properly but you also don't get a billion tags on a single doujin.
That means that everyone who just wants general material can find it readily, but it also means that people who want niche material (no penetration/paizuri only/ no nudity etc.) can find their stuff as well without having to sift as much. It's a win-win.

That's a nice ideal to work towards, but hydrus p2p support is currently very early. We have had some success with IPFS so far–although it is a little slow to find content without additional configuration–but I still have to write a bunch of workflow improvements, and even then, we can expect IPFS to be pasting a bunch of multihashes (which look like thisQmZ3bAxHTYsWqHY1eU7yC4VFa2NVmCoiZ593D8ZdqafGU3) for the time being until I can figure out a way to share multihash-hydrushash mappings to allow quicker lookups based on tag or whatever. It would not be a pleasant browsing experience, but more pasting lists of that stuff back and forth between users for specific content. I don't think easy small-file P2P is there yet.
Hydrus is a local file manager most of all. It can pull files and tags from boorus and imageboards very well, but it does not solve the sharing problem yet.

It was the last source I knew to get clean, up-to-date GOG releases after GOD went down keep in mind Torrminatorr is THE source from which most other pirate sites that still offer new GOG releases and updates get their files from.

Not only does it likely not scrape all tags properly, it scrapes the downscaled web resampled versions of galleries. There's a chance that the torrent for a gallery on nhentai is a copy of one from the panda though, so just check if the torrent filesize is much larger than nhentai's archive.

There are numerous problems with 'moving' to nhentai. It has no upload feature whatsoever (only a vague promise of user uploading being added 'soon' that's supposedly been there for ages). It currently has no new content since as previously mentioned it only scraped panda. It downsamples everything on the site to (I believe) 1400px meaning original higher resolutions max as well be lost. It has less functionality in search and tagging, as also previously stated. It was, from the start, not an actually viable solution. There are lots of people working to archive but that's also not a solution for new content. Until something new and viable is made and people can be informed of it and convinced to move there, shit's fucked.

Though I do remember one post said "politics are more fun than video games now" and that was after GG became baby's first red pill (this was before 2016).
Now it just seems, to me, like there are less posters and those that remain do less fun threads. People have always been very contraraian on these boards, they'll argue with eachother about anything, but now it seems like that's been the focus instead of the games. I remember for YEARS enjoying many many Senran Kagura threads, even though I never owned any of the games, finally saw one a few months ago. Did a dump of images, and people were hating it, but that was the sort of thing that had been going on for years and years. What the hell changed?
Two and half weeks ago somebody decided to do "waifu wednesdays". Usually I'd expect tons of people to just dump sexy ass images, but it's like now people hate them despite it being kind of a staple (image dumps of any sort always felt like that for years and years and years).
It's one reason why I like this thread, it's thread #3 about sadpanda. Most threads do NOT get this much activity in /v/, I'm proud there's that much life here (hell I'm damn surprised that there's more people here talking about it than in other applicable boards).

Numerous ideas have been thrown around about it, but here is what the BO have confirmed:
1) Hydrus is not currently great at handling paged media. It can do it, but the workflow is a little awkward. I plan to improve this in future.
2) IPFS support is prototype, and mostly for advanced users who are already comfortable with the program. I'm working on it now.
3) Hydrus is not for everyone. If you have 10,000+ files and want to manage them better than files and folders, you may like it. If you want a clean and professional experience with beautiful UI, you may not.
So it's nothing but a project now. The main reason I do these threads and post this is to keep anons up to support it and use Hydrus for managing whatever manga they downloaded to be used later when the project get to the point it can be used and to post resources and the such.

Building on top of Retroshare is a much better solution than building on top of hydrus. Recently they added a JSON API which means when it runs in headless mode it basically becomes a generic library that anything can build on top of. Vid related is from earlier this year. Retroshare can index not only filenames but also the contents of the files themselves. This makes searching, distributing, and editing much easier. Instead of going to a website to access everything you'd download a program and use it through that. It could even have a web UI or use Electron so it looks like a regular website.

Hey guys, I don't really quite care about all of this, but I was working on some sort of web archiver/crawler that would contact the Wayback Machine and archive.is to save snapshots of websites in bulk, unlike what they do now where they just save the main page. I've tested the possibility of doing this and yes, they both save a lot more content this way, including pictures and some functionality.

EH doesn't only store doujins, they also store thick magazines (tankoubons @ 200 pages each) and Game CG collections which archive sizes range between 300MB to 2GB. Downloading a whole archive for a short preview isn't going to be viable.

Yes that is a problem in all content distribution. I imagine individuals or groups will rise to the occasion and host content out of altruism (like what's being done with torrents right now) or on a donation model to cover costs. Someone somewhere has to pay the bills in every content distribution system, centralized or decentralized. Of course this will naturally lead to a group of "super nodes" which will be carrying the majority of the load. There are many reasons for this but this inverted pyramid model where a handful of users end up becoming the foundation for everyone else almost always ends up emerging in resource independent distributed/decentralized systems.

Unlike IPFS where file indexes and metadata live in the DHT (and takes a while to query), each Retroshare node locally indexes the content it has stored. Queries are sent directly to each node to preform a local index search and returns the results. Because indexes are local, the content of files can also be indexed. This allows documents (metadata in a JSON file) to be searched network wide. This scales much better for distributed searches. A standard file naming scheme would be agreed on for full resolution images, thumbnails, metadata, etc. A UI could search for something and download and display the thumbnails like how webpages do now. Then each page (or group of pages) can be downloaded, displayed, and optionally seeded to other users.
