You're telling me, I used to do volunteer work when I was a teenager (15 to 17, cutoff age 18 for the particular program) Anyway my volunteer work was essentially taking care of kids around the 7 to 11 age range, keep an eye on them, interact with them, participate in group activities. It was like camp except it was at a local recreation center for the majority of summer.
Apparently before I had even joined up they had already had allegations and problems before and told us during the volunteer training. Just told us to be careful and stay in groups with the kids, at the time I thought it would never happen to me and did what I was told. Everything was fine the first two years but the third year I ran into a problem. Here's a breakdown.

If anything I hope the girl turned out alright, she was a sweet girl and while everyone (counselors and kids) complained she was a crybaby, it didn't take a lot to make her happy. If anything she just wanted to be included and while she may not have been able to put it completely into words (much like I couldn't when I was a child) I know she felt deep down that no one wanted to bother with her, not even the adults that were supposed to be doing their job.
Funny thing was that I went into the program thinking I would hate it, parents told me I needed to do something instead of lying around all summer and playing video games. It wasn't long before I started to enjoy the hell out of it, went to places my parents could never afford to go to. Plus I found taking care of those kids was very rewarding and fun in general. I could even say it was one of the few moments in my life that I felt fulfilled. Here's another one that may make you less sad.
