What are some games with modern settings but with fantastical and/or paranormal themes in them? Light sci-fi might count but is not exactly what I mean, and the weirder the better. Generaly, we all know of the Vampire and Masquerade as an example and Persona games as well as some other Shin Megami Tensei fit the spectrum in a weirder way.

Generally I really like the theme, although I feel as if people are not using it as creatively as they could. Although there is nothing wrong with doing classical vampires and werewolves in a modern setting, I wish more creators video game-wise and otherwise would expand into other themes, as there is a lot of potential as a modern setting can work great for a double-life type of stories as well as action and mystery.

It's a pretty mediocre tab targeting MMO but it probably has the single best MMO world and quest design. I'd get on that shit before they inevitably shut that bitch down.

The combat is a lot of fun, but the story isn't that great and it takes up a huge chunk of the game. However the world building is really good, being a Falcom game and all. Most of the NPCs have their own characters arcs like in the Trails games.

A lot of these do go into sci-fi to some extent, though, if that's a concern.

I agree that it's an underused setting. I tend to prefer pure fantasy, but I've always been intrigued by urban fantasy and science fantasy as well. My first experience with RPGs and fantasy elements in general was FFVII, and its blend of modern and fantasy stuff blew my mind.
