The Dahaka fight was pretty fucking neat. I liked a lot of the ideas presented in PoP, particularly every action being bound to a key and stringing those actions along into logical combos was something I had hoped to see in another game, but never did.

The tone shift isn´t jarring at all. In the first game the prince is still a naive but brave retard who unleashes hell upon the world and has to even kill his beloved father. In the second game he´s depressed and moody because of the events of the first part and also he gets chased by an immortal devil, who literally wantso to completely erase him out of the timeline. Then in the third game he slowly transforms into a wise king who is ready to lead his people.

They rehashed the Ass Creed engine for PoP 2008. Every mechanic in the game was a rhythm minigame. On top of that the dialogue plays out like a bad Disney movie. PoP 2008 was irredeemably bad.

Edgy games were cool back then, just look at NFS Most Wanted, Shadow the Hedgehog, Prototype etc. That said, Warrior Within was really good.

Fun fact, there's a prequel to Warrior Within on the DS that was a turn based strategy game. Didn't play it, but I thought it was interesting to take a platformer/action game and twist it into a strategy game. Also, I only played Sands of Time, but holy shit that soundtrack was 10/10. That was the game that made me start paying attention to soundtracks.

This is some serious rose tinted glasses if i've ever seen 'em. Go play it right now, and be ashamed of yourselves. The basic ground combo only works on maybe three enemies you only see at the start of the game, every other enemy blocks it. The enemy vault is the same way. There's the dagger attack which does no damage and can freeze enemies at the cost of sands, but ends up being blocked 9/10 times. Then there's the wall-kick attack (press jump & attack near a wall) that is literally the only fucking way to damage late-game enemies. Warrior withing is overall the worse game, but anyone claiming that it didn't improve on the outright fucking broken combat of sands of time hasn't played the games.

There was another reboot after that. It was supposed to be a "tick tock" sequel of series with Assassin's Creed (Creed one year, PoP the next, alternating etc) but once AC took off and the PoP reboot-reboot didn't perform as well, they dropped the sequel to the cel-shaded PoP which bummed me out because despite being Easy Mode: The Game it was still kinda fun.

The other "version" you might be thinking of is the Wii port of Two Thrones which had a different name and which was all but unfinishable because of the frame-rate drops during the final boss fight that required QTE waggle to complete.

But the original version of Two Thrones is worth it.

There is really two Prince of Persia series, one dreamy and another edgy tryhard. Don't get swayed by ignoramuses who shit over POP2008, the game is extremely comfy after you get over the bad combat. It's also untrue that the game's finale is locked behind DLC: the extra chapter in the dlc is unneeded and ruins the trick in the game's ending. Referencing Shadow of the Colossus, you have to choose between saving the world and leaving the princess dead (quitting the game) or dooming it again by resurrecting her.

Original Prince of Persia was pretty much same as Warriot Within. Grim race with time in catacombs. Sand of Time is gay aladin. Levels look cool but everything else is lame. Worst Prince of Persia game. I played almoust all of them except PSP and Wii ports.

I loved Sands of Time, but never finished WW. I'd get obsessed with exploring every nook and crany and ended up glitching the game into skipping after you got the mask and had to start all over. It happened twice so I just abandoned it. Never had the energy to go through Two Thrones since I hadn't beaten the second one.

Two Thrones, he's actually calmed down after defeating said immortal hunter and is starting to recover, and his mountains of angst actually becomes a secondary character he has to cope with while he's settling into a middleground of 'more laid back and lighthearted but still scarred and hardened by the shit he's seen.'
