I think the bigger controversy is that this is happening on the heels of one of the most embarrassing times for OW. Their e-sports league was essentially made a fool of. Now I solo-que most games I play so I appreciate matchmaking for just dropping me into a match but if a game puts most of it's reliance on matchmaking means only the developer can dictate what is or isn't appropriate behavior whereas in traditional player hosted servers players can split up into their own communities, dictate the behaviors in their own servers, and play frequently with the same people and actually develop friendships that can carry outside of the game.
