I just finished playing this game last night along with playing the entirety of the holy trinity last month. While 6 doesn't stand up to the trinity, it does have a nice soundtrack and there's a bunch of missions that the ac-10 excels in. That said, the plot itself is really barebones and incredibly basic with a bunch of cheese added to it. There's no real co-pilot bantz and swagger between your fellow pilots, and while there's a LOT more in the way of enemies, some of the missions are just rather tedious in the amount of enemies you have to kill. It also doesn't help that a majority of the missions give you 40+ minutes to complete everything and there's 3-7 submission tasks to do for each mission as well. Overall, it's different, but there's a lot lacking in the game. The only real major positive is the amount of dlc planes that have idolmaster girls on the planes, but you have to hack the 360 to take bootlegged dlc since they took that dlc off the xbox live market a few years back sadly.
My official rankings of the series so far is AC4>AC5>AC0>AC6

0 was the best in terms of gameplay and story balance, it didn't sacrifice mission gameplay for the sake of the plot. 4 also has the best story out of all the games but has some gameplay hiccups. 6 does one thing really well, and that's pulling ground support for massive battles, and while the plot outside of the worldbuilding is pretty garbage, the fact that even the ground forces have the same amount of character as your fellow pilots meant that playing missions pulling ground support was fun. also the Agaion was really fun to fight With 5, the plot may be better, but it also interferes with the quality of several missions, and also intervenes with my ability to go back and replay it.
I hope the success of Ace Combat 7 will at least make them consider HD ports of the holy trinity and 6. More people need to play 6 than see it be trapped on the 360 or the Xboner.

I really enjoyed it, had huge battles, and you don't need to complete all the objectives in each mission to complete it(it tells you how many "operations" you need to complete, before either finishing the mission, or reaching the second stage), you can also return to base to refill, and have a checkpoint, or complete an objective for a new checkpoint(really necessary since mission are long, and if you die, you don't want to start from the beginning), also because they are large you can choose to either focus more on ground targets or aerial targets, to fit different playstyles and planes.
The music is nice, the planes are nice, the story is pure cheese go dance with an angel as most people have mentioned, the superweapons are nice, with the last one as a callback to Ace Combat 4. Is it as good as the PS2 games? no, is it a good game, worth a playthrough? yes, especially is you have a 360, you can find it for cheap second hand, or download it from the internet.

Just remembered some other good things about it, the AI was much more helpful in this game, since after you complete objectives or parts of it, you fill a bar and you can use that bar to make the AI fire a barrage of missiles at the enemy or cover you, so it's really useful for cleaning up the rest of the enemy or completing an objective faster, it actually makes it fell like you are not just the only plane on the battlefield, or just a babysiter for all your allies(though you do a lot of babysitting, in this game, especially with all the objectives). There was one mission I liked, were you had to go low and do a stealth bombing, so I picked a stealth bomber, that should help me not get as easily detected, but it's not a great plane(few missiles, low maneuverability), so I go from one side of the map to the other, stealthy destroy all the targets, and then the enemy comes, and I have to run to the other side, because the plane is shit, and when you get there you are greeted by 2 dozen enemy aircrafts, and the missions changes from running, to destroying all of them, so I am there dodging their missiles, trying to kill them, and just when I am about to die my allies come, from all the other missions, get a full AI bar and just launch a barrage of missiles at the enemy it really felt like I wasn't the only one on the battlefield.
Also the retaking of Gracemaria was a nice missions, with all the buildup and the music that accompanied it.

4 certainly had the most well put-together plot, but I don't think it had even close to as good of game design as 5 and 0. It's not a bad game, but it definitely lacks in mission variety compared to the other two. Also, I found it vastly easier during my first playthrough on hard than I did 5 and 0. Particularly the last level. When I finished Megalith on the first try I thought to myself "Alright, now it's gonna release something or change and I'll have to tackle that again right? That was way too easy" but nope that was just it. I felt underwhelmed at the end of 4 while 5 and 0 left me feeling like a badass ace pilot. 4 never tested me as much or left me feeling as powerful. From what we've seen/heard it didn't seem like development hell and more like they announced it extremely early in development, similar to KH3. If it were in development hell then we would see something more like the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, where the delays were caused by the entire dev team being changed and all game progress so far being scrapped. In AC7's case the delays were to continue polishing the game and according to rumors the VR mode has had a ton of issues and Sony/Bamco wouldn't allow the game to release without it.

I played the fan translation, and just didn't like it that much. Controlling planes was a chore most of the time. It has some neat ideas, like the branching story paths, a mission on the upper layer of the atmosphere, and a boss fight with a physical ceiling you have to make sure you don't crash into, but beyond that it left me feeling pretty unsatisfied.

All preorders get the F-4E along with Pixy, Razgriz, and Yellow 13 skins for the F-15C, F-14D, and Su-37 respectively. Along with this, the XBone is getting AC6 (original 360 copies will work as well with backwards compatibility) while the PS4 is getting a digital copy of AC5. PC gets jack shit in terms of extra game, you can't get Aces at War edition for PC either, unlike the Euro and Japanese special editions.

It's POSSIBLE, but incredibly difficult to make a water landing with any aircraft. That's why that one water landing in the Hudson river with almost no injuries is considered a miracle, because even in a passenger jet your chances of survival are slim. It's much easier in aircraft with lower stall speeds, hence why there was only one high-speed seaplane in existence and it was notoriously hard to fly.

Regardless, I like watching trailers because to me there's nothing better when anticipating a game than the hype brought on by a well-made trailer. What you're describing is not a well made trailer. A trailer that spoils the plot, either intentionally or unintentionally, is just plain bad. See the recent trailers for the DBS Broly movie for some good examples, where they spoil literally every twist and transformation that happens in the film. Now, there can be a really good permutation of this practice that kinda turns it on its head, where the trailers are specifically made to make you think a specific character or group will be okay, when in the actual film/game they are killed off or something else bad happens to them. See Scream killing off Drew Barrymore for a good example of this.
Now this isn't to say that AC7 has perfect trailers or anything, they've slipped up and revealed some spoilers like Mother Goose One along the way, but so far they have been fantastic at generating hype.

To each their own, but the original control scheme is great imo. Bar owning a joystick, it's the way the games were meant to be played. I have tried playing multiple entries in the series with KB&M, ranging from Ass Horizon to Zero, but I just couldn't stand it as a regular setup. Only if I absolutely didn't have any other alternative would I use that control setup. Ass Horizon was the most bearable with such a control setup, but that was mostly because of how QTE heavy it is. I just didn't have that same level of fine control that a joystick and triggers give for roll, pitch, and yaw. Not to mention camera controls were a lot nicer. I suppose it would be a lot easier to handle if you used the simple/beginner controls, but anyone who would stoop that low doesn't deserve to have an opinion anyways.

1. No, the mechanics in 7 have hardly changed since the holy trinity on the PS2. The main things added are high-G turns (by activating both airbrakes and accelerating) and the upgrade system. Both of which makes the game deeper and allows greater freedom in maneuvering. The only thing added in 7 is post-stall maneuvers, which can only be used by certain planes and in certain conditions and are only really usable by actually good players. casuals will try to pull a cobra and immediately eat a missile.
2. It runs at 60fps on both base and Pro PS4. The only thing that changes is max resolution, with pro of course being higher. In case you're wondering PC has an uncapped framerate and resolution, however it will likely have denuvo.

4, 5, and Zero. They're called the holy trinity for a reason. You can play them in any order though, there is no overarching plotline, though 5 and Zero's stories are connected and they all take place in a shared universe. I personally recommend playing Zero, then 5, then 4. If you're wondering which ones are most relevant to 7, it's 5 and 4.
-Zero is the shortest and in my opinion the tightest of the three. It's the quickest to complete, so it'll also be the quickest way to know whether you'll like the series. I also recommend it before 5 as a key moment of the game is semi-spoiled by AC5's opening cutscene. Zero has just about everything great about Ace Combat bundled up inside it, and in my opinion the best story overall of the holy trinity
-5 is the longest of the 3, and also BY FAR has the largest aircraft selection. It's absolutely massive, but does suffer from a bit of bloat in the middle of the story. The story isn't for everyone either, as it's definitely heavy on the drama and the dialogue can be cheesy, but it also has quite a few fantastic moments and the ending is my absolute favorite of the series (Though Zero is still a very close second)
-4 is the one I'm gonna get a lotta shit for. People fucking WORSHIP this game, and it is absolutely a great game deserving of being in the holy trinity, however I don't think it's quite as polished as the other two. Nearly every mission is "shoot down X number of aircraft within X time to win", which gets boring after a while. All-in-all it very much suffers from just being old, so it has a bunch of weird quirks from the PS1 era of the series that the later games since then don't have. As I said though, it's still a great game with fantastic moments, and its story is a treat. Definitely worth playing, just play it after the other two.

Whew, I'm glad I got a damned neared mint copy of AC5 for the PS2 a few months ago from a local hobby shop - otherwise I'd just have to emulate it on my PC because what the actual fuck is this shit? And they're giving away AC6 on the Xbox One side… I already have that too, but at least that one I can just pop into the console and it plays fine (after several GB of download) now that they bothered to make it backwards compatible.
I really should just get AC7 for the PC, but it has Denuvo as it's only bonus, so fuck that. I really want to try it's VR mode though, but the PSVR is garbage. I remember a time when picking which platform you wanted to play a game on was difficult because came down which great features and bonuses you wanted the most. Haven't finished it yet, but for anyone wondering how good the game is here's my rundown:
PROS:
>Soundtrack is quickly becoming my new favorite for the entire franchise. Sound design in general is fucking GODLIKE. Can't wait for the full soundtrack to drop.
>Imo the Plot is holy trinity tier. Of course it still has its cheesy moments, but it's a good in-between of AC5 and AC0/AC4, so it also pulls off some great serious moments.
>Aircraft definitely feel a lot less same-y than the PS2 entries. When I went from the F-14D to the MiG-29 I could actually feel the difference. For example it feels like I have a lot more freedom to maneuver at high-AoA on the MiG-29, which makes sense for that aircraft.
>Parts also make a difference. I honestly didn't expect to use them much, but I found that they really add to the experience and let you tweak your aircraft to be exactly what you want.
>graphically the game looks GORGEOUS. Playing it on a base PS4 right now and damn, even at ~970p (don't know the exact resolution) it looks fantastic. There have been a few times where I've seen it drop into the 50fps range, but for the most part it stays close to or at 60fps. Cutscenes are always at 60fps. Aircraft models are of course crazy detailed as well.
>For a console game, it has a lot of options for your control scheme. I was able to tweak it to be exactly like the PS2 games.
CONS:
<The first mission is nowhere near as memorable as the PS2 entries, especially Zero. It's not bad by any means, but it was mostly there to tell you the controls. Even on hard the enemies barely put up a fight.
<Really not a fan of how restricted head movement is in cockpit mode compared to the holy trinity. You can hardly look up so at times it's difficult to keep track of exactly where enemies are, especially against drones. That being said it is something one can get used to.
<Bamco can get fucked. My AC5 and digital bonus codes still aren't here. Opened up a support ticket and now my email's getting spammed with "We'll respond in 48 hours" messages over and over again.
