There's just something about this expansion pack that I feel makes it better than the original but I can't put my finger on it.

I think it's more than that
The level design and pacing I think do a better job than the original game.

It just has improvements without removing anything from main game. Kinda reminds me of Enemy Within but that was addition to main story not a separate one
Blue Shift on the other hand was extremely disappointing
