I'm kind of mixed on this one. Not because of the outside mech action combat stuff, i'm not a poser whos never heard of stuff like Gunhazard who thinks the series has only been strategy games, and hearing its inspired by the short story/light novel idea of "how the fuck do light infantry take on Vanzers on foot?" gives me the MGS vibes even without Yoji Shinkawas input.

You've got the diehard Front Mission guy at Square Enix, some ex fromsoft guys who did armoured core, metal gears yoji shinkawa on designs and the ghost in the shell mecha animation as the cutscene director.

Now as a slavs vs mechs half stealth half mech combat this looks like it could be the best parts of MGS4 that revives the Front Mission IP.

Buuut it could also be some Dino Crisis 3 level trash riding a brand but playing like shit. We all remember the previews for FFXV that had people going 'oh its like metal gear!' and it was a heavily scripted single section to break out a fucking impounded car.

Aside from the "i've always been a front mission fan baka gaijin, what do you mean theres more than 4 games?" knee jerk outrage culture anons who im sure didn't read this far by getting upset its not turn based strategy what do the rest of you mechfags think of it?

and if its succesful and they do a new mainline what do you think about the rumours the director wants to try swapping grid based tbs for valkyria chronicles style free movement with a meter and 3 person aiming?

The trailers that showed up after it went dark for like a year showed the main character sneaking around and using contextual silent take downs to sneak through a camp. People said 'is final fantasy metal gear?!?' but it was just a tiny sequence in an otherwise dogshit mmo fetch quest game.

At most I'm expecting standard cover shooter gameplay with some Lost Planet style mecha gameplay. Thats enough for me to pick it up for $30. Ideally I want Lost Planet 2 ground combat with AC5 style mech control but that's asking for too much. I've never played a Front Mission but I'll give the series a go outside of Evolved.

What little gameplay they've shown hasn't looked exactly stellar. Still, I'm cautiously hopeful they'll manage to make at least a decent game with a good story, because I do like the world of Front Mission. And I hope they'll include the Japanese dub, because the English dub sounds abysmal.

Just a reminder that "mission 51" is a meme, and a ruse.

The game would've never been finished.

They didn't even have missions from 32 to 50, and had to make rehashes with "increased difficulty"

And if they called it mission 51, it means it'd have followed the exact same mission structure we have in the version we've gotten, so either they planned all the rehashes when in ground zeroes it was an unlockable difficulty and le epic mission 51 on isla del monstruo was cut by evil konami, or it was cut along with missions 33, 34, 36, 37, 39, 40, 42, 44, 48, 49 and 50 that don't have any proof of existence.

the guns dont even have sights and the centre of the crossair is where the shot always lands when shooting the first shot, you can never miss with the tranq or anyother weapon if you have the stealth advantage

the levels are too small and there is no real point in being able to crawl when a lot of enemies dont patrol and instead wait for you to come to them and that there are no places you can crawl into or under and even if you could good luck pressing your eyeballs upto the PSP screen to see what you are doing

Yes, that was the problem. The crosshair was extremely large, I couldn't make far head shots which was pretty fun to achieve in MGS3 and even V. My friend and I went full rambo instead, it played out much better since the stealth was trash anyway.

Kek, like there was ever any need to tranq anyone. You could run right past enemies with 2% on your camo meter undetected

True. I just find it a massive downgrade to the other games. MGSV had pretty shitty level design but at least it had patrols and I could crawl around whenever I wanted.

You just contradicted this with

All the other MGS games have had patrols and you can easily run past an enemy undetected even with your camo meter on low in PW. You can't do that in any of the previous MGS games or in V.

The best way to play PW is to treat it as a motherbase maintenance and rambo game. Developing it for the PSP was not a good idea, you can blame Kojima for trying to reach out to children.

The TPS gameplay looks like any standard cover shooter and I got really bored and almost turned the video off, but 3 minutes in the mechas come into play and those look much better. Then they showed off 3 minutes of a FUCKING CUTSCENE and then wasted the rest of the video hiding behind cover, throwing a grenade and then aiming like a drunkard before talking to some NPC and that was it. I'm not really impressed but that mecha gameplay has me interested. The TPS gameplay, not at all.
