The Sims 2 is definitely the most complete Sims experience. Sims 3 was so close to being the best, if only it had better expansions and wasn't so shittily optimized. Open world actually worked great in The Sims 3, I thought it was going to be a staple feature going forward in the series, but 4 was a massive step back.

TS1 isn't very challenging, from what I remember. You just have to struggle to micromanage all your Sims needs because they go down so fast, there's basically no time left to do much else. Depends on what you consider to be better.
The original is very much a product of its time, and had a lot more influences to 1950s family sitcoms, and the experience felt the more "pure" overall. It was some super risqué shit seeing women (or dudes) actually able to kiss, and fuck. The original is definitely the best where overall atmosphere is concerned.
2 in my opinion is the happy medium. It runs well, it looks nice, and it came during the golden age of PC gaming, when expansions still had value.
3 is nice, but it's an unoptimized mess. It has some great ideas and it has a lot of content, but boy oh fuckin boy, you'd better enjoy loading screens, because you're going to be living in them.
4 has been dumbed down in a big way, and it feels more like a quasi mobile game than a PC game. Lots of features are gone, it's become (((streamlined))). Its only saving grace is that it runs well, is easy to pirate, and the characters are hot.

Which of course, since I was also around 11-12 at the time, the first thing I tried was moving the shower while a Sim loli or shota, I wasn't picky, but the former made more sense because they all had ken-doll crotches was in it, and you could see their nude model when at any time they would otherwise be covered with a censor blur. Dropped a few loads looking at that, until the internet got more widespread and I could find better stuff.

It's my goal in ts3 to make a family that as they age, start looking for a way to beat death, and pass that task on to the next generation should they fail, and eventually have one generation successfully find a way to bring everyone back from the dead and become immortals.
And everyone has incestuous sex because of kinkyworld, which makes it very difficult to get anything else done, but will create one big orgy when the goal is met. But I've been so busy I don't have the hours to waste in loading screens and saving every few minutes while micromanaging a virtual family.
>>15805668
>>15804289
I think the night life expansion in ts3 put vampires into the world, and being a vampire actually isn't all it's cracked up to be. You only age slower than other sims, but you still eventually age up and can die of old age I think. You switch from food to red koolaid and doing anything during the day is near impossible because it ruins all your moodlets, and if your sim has children or needs to maintain a job it's just a ball ache.
>>15805668
Apparently the quantity of mods alone creates a huge problem with performance because of how ts3 caches everything, which can be solved by just repacking all mods into a single zip.

Probably to future-proof the town. If vampires and ghosts continued to persist as other sims died or joined the ranks of vampires and ghosts you would eventually have an overflowing town of undead and the game would start to choke (more than usual) from tracking every vampire/ghost/living sim and all their generations.
I actually didn't know about the ghosts following the same rules though, but now it makes sense that even they would eventually be culled.

The Sims thrives on players setting arbitrary goals for themselves:
you might want to help your sims fulfill their arbitrary ambitions
you might just want to build their house up into a mansion (you might even want to earn money to do so via ingame means instead of cheating)
you might just want to have them sex eachother up (in which case head to /hgg/)
you might just want to find creative ways to kill them
The series is the most casual of the casual, and yet incredibly complex in design. Find a way to direct your sims toward the end you've decided on or relax and let your virtual goldfish family surprise you with how it develops.
I've only played 3 in-depth so I don't know if you can do this in 2, but see if you can't make a thief and send them out to steal everyone's shit

So you're advocating doing it again?

I say we but I was just spectating in the thread, I haven't played any of the sims games in over a decade now and never was able to get into it.
For some reason I love the look and feel of this series, >>15803643 is on the money about the atmosphere it has. Seeing all the crazy shit people come up with using a sandbox style game is another plus.

you might enjoy 3 with the kinkyworld mod
more than just a sex mod, it expands features to the point that it may as well be an expansion pack. The interior schools alone are worth a look

First Sims is best in terms of atmosphere. Or maybe not the best, but the most special, It's been almost twenty years and I still can't properly explain how it feels to play that game. I think the only way I can describe it is "engaging melancholia".
Sims 2 is the best in my opinion, compared to The Sims it's an improvement in every way. If you do a complete install the game suffers from feature bloat, but that's par for the course with Sims games. The major flaw of the game is the world not really being connected, lots being separated by loading screens and NPC sims not aging. They somewhat fixed the latter with Apartment Life, but that's not perfect either.
Sims 3 is a bit of a mixed bag for me. I like the persistent world, they added a lot of interesting little things, but, at the end of the day, it wasn't well-suited for my playstyle from Sims 2. In Sims 2, I autistically managed multiple households at once, Sims 3 is more geared towards playing just one family at the time. Not bad, but I couldn't get used to it.
That, and I dislike the fact that it's nearly impossible to create a sim that doesn't look like a potato, and the fact that they gimped the character creation to be able to sell you hairstyles for IRL cash is a travesty.
I feel like giving Sims 3 another chance right now.

Are there any breast slider mods for Sims 2?

Yeah kinkyworld lets you breed with animals. So your sim could end up giving birth to a horse, or I think if you have a certain expansion you might give birth to a furry (aka: dog girl).
I really wanted to get into modding ts3 but to hack apart the game is impossible in linux and requires a lot of shit in windows, although I recently set up a virtual machine for xp so maybe I can start working on it some day, but man ts3's bugs are just so bad.

Legacies and other challenges of that sort are always enjoyable, I've always liked the asylum one where you create 8 sims, thrown them in a house with not enough furniture for everyone and directly controls just one of the 8, the entire thing becomes a clusterfuck of yelling and crying by the third day.

Is that what a furry looks like, or is that an oven escapee?

Fpbp. Sims was good but Sims 2 was where you thought the series was going some where. Sims 3 polished some parts but remove some of the others made everything awkward until it finally got on it feet.

Second post not bad either

The lack of content, fewer neighborhoods, fewer lots to build houses, everything is online, Content that were featured since Sims 1 were removed and then added in as dlc. All in all a huge stepdown.

That is why you don't let children play with household chemicals.

With the supernatural expansion, if you get knocked up by a dog you have a chance to give birth to a werewolf. Also on werewolves, a recent addition was added to kinkyworld where they can sniff out fertile females and mark them on the map. Handy for impregnating the whole town.

There's also a challenge called passing the torch, where you play only one sim, letting the others be controlled by the ai, and when your first alternating gender kid (allowing some randomness to the amount of siblings each generation) reaches the child state, you switch to playing them, raise them up, have kids and repeat. It's a good mix of playing with genetics and seeing a family grow while also seeing what the ai does for amusment. Especially with kinkyworld horniness system helping the ai to do interesting things.
I started playing the daughter of my sim, and only realised when she was an adult that her brother had somehow gotten into an incestuous relationship with their mother once the dad died. He started sleeping in her bed and everything.

I will add something that most here don't mention, and that IMO was the biggest feature other than open world: customizable objects
Having the option to modify pattern, texture and colors of clothes, objects and a couple other stuff made buy/building much, much more interesting. Now everything goes with everything, and you don't need to download mods and items to have a contemporary wooden chair instead of a plastic one.
Shame it takes literal 2 minutes to load when doing it, and another 3 to wait for every preview to appear. But it's there, what a fucking shame the game runs like garbage and EA never went into it again
It's been almost 10 years since 3 came out

Which games does this even work on? The AI kinda sucks on most of them, Sims won't even find a job on their own.

I do it on 3. Yeah they can't find a job on their own, but if you break the rules briefly to get them a job, they can at least keep it and get promotions. Otherwise the challenge is just trying to earn enough to keep your unemployed family fed

A lot of problems with loading are circumvented with an ssd, seriously.
TS3 caches so much data because of the memory limit that disk i/o becomes one of the biggest bottlenecks to it.
>>15818956
I was going to try and let the game run on auto pilot for a while, but forgot that there are random prompts that pause the game waiting for user input. Was pretty disappointed I didn't wake up to see a couple years pass in-game without user influence.
