It's working out for Arika so far. Nicalis is really at fault for all of Blade Strangers shortcomings, they were 100% focused on getting the smash audience to pick up the game that they tossed every other market to the side. That and they made Studio Saizensen rush the game out and turn it into indie fighter 2

Garou MOTW is far from being an "easy" game have you heard about cancels and feints? but can you even get to or beat Kain Grant is just a mid boss? But maybe you should try the other Fatal Fury games like Real Bout Special and Real Bout 2 that are quite pretty for its time and the multi layer gimmick is fun along with the out of bounds mechanic. Or just go straigh to KOF that has Rock Howard(XIV), Tizoc(2003, XI, XIV), Jenet (XI), Gato (2003, XI), Hotaru (XI) and a similar "feeling" in how you combo and cancel moves.

But it is a struggle, with DOA5 I was basically "Dick - no! You want that shit, you get your own job." Still got the little guy a couple of Nyotengu costumes, I do play her almost exclusively so no harm like that when I bought costumes in SFIV for characters I didn't even play all that much.

The first game didn't, but Blaze introduced health - you take more damage the faster the ball is, and building up speed in the ball is a lot more involved than it was previously. From what I've experienced, it seems as though you build more speed on each hit the closer you are to the centre of the stage. It's a good design decision, since corner camping and hitstun camping were huge parts of LL. The grab mechanic, changes to ball speed, and the addition of health are all things meant to encourage people to make reads and stop masturbating in the corner by bunting.

More importantly, it feels good when you know what you're doing, and speed builds up VERY quickly in a 4-player game no matter what the teams are like.

Of course Soul Calibur is going to have gay DLC. The point though is that right now, the only way DOA6 can get more lewd then Soul Calibur VI at this point is through DLC. Brought KoF 98 to class and had a ton of fun with it and we even had access to a big ass projector, no one really knew what they were doing (including me) but that just added to it. Great suggestion. I'll probably check out the later titles as well since they assumedly have more characters and such.

Is there a good wiki or some other resource where I can learn more about the game mechanics and such (nothing great turned up when searching)? It's all a bit confusing for someone that has not played a ton of fighting games.

For example the different modes, Advanced, Extra and Ultimate.

Are the first two 'package deals' and when selecting Ultimate you can fine-tune it? Like, Advance has the top option of Dash, Evasion and Gauge whilst extra has the bottom ones whilst Ultimate being free choice?

What can I even do with the meter? Your character just glows in Advanced, is it a basic attack up?

Are Omega characters alternate skins or do they offer more?

Lastly what's the deal with Orochi, is he just really good for and against plebs that don't know what they're doing since his basic attacks deal a lot of damage and he has large hurt boxes?

Everyone that chose him effortlessly beat their opponents even people that came in and didn't know shit about the game.

Check out the post below the OP. Also, "The Beginner's Incomplete Guide to KOF" by Dandy J (aka the homo-genius guy) on YT.

Advanced and Extra are indeed presets and Ultimate is the customizable one.

In Advanced you can execute HSDMs (aka the red flashy super moves) with the glowing bar, but in Extra you can only do them when your lifebar's low+charged meter.

Omega characters do have different movesets and some moves behave differently, usually based on previous/alternate incarnations of the characters. For example, Kyo instead of having his rekkas and other stuff becomes a shoto (what he was in '94/'95).

Orochi is the final boss from the previous game ('97). That might clear some of your doubts.

Some do have more characters, others don't. 2002UM has a fuckhuge roster, XIII has a smaller roster but also smaller movesets and has a few headswaps because the "spriting" method they used ended up being quite costly, XIV goes back to a huge roster (~50 characters right off the bat). All of them pretty solid, but I'd suggest 2002UM and then XIV.

If you want to show off more SNK stuff, Samurai Shodown V Special is also great since a new one's coming soon but radically different in style and mechanics.

There are some missconceptions on what >>15638867 said but yeah, the guides at the OP are good enough to start. '98 and 2002 are dream matches as in they have almost all the characters from the previous saga ('94~'97 and '99~2001 respectively). The UMs are revisions of the titles with lots of fine tuning and adding the missing characters plus previous console-only like Goenitz, King and Geese in 2002. So don't expect other games have that variation of roster.

If you to know about the characters I suggest '97 and later games like 2000 to know about the characters of that saga.

I'm more miffed these characters come with a 5 dollaridoo price tag and, for the most part, don't seem as complete. Arthur and Skullo have one costume and don't seem to be customizable nor do they come with custom items. At least Miss X has alternate forms. And overall, the customization in the game is very poor, just props glued on them. Feels like we'll never see customization on the same tier as VF5.

I briefly tried KoF XIV and at a short glance I'm very unimpressed with the 3D models.

Then I tried XIII and I think the pixelated 3D models (or whatever one should call them) looks a lot better but even so I think 98 looks the best so far, I'll download 2002 next. I'm too much of a casual to judge it on anything other than aesthetic at the moment.

But anyway the fucking moves I'm required to input are impossible for a pleb like me that doesn't even use a fighting stick. Are they actually meant to be reliably executed with a DS3?

Most moves are even harder with the d-pad so I'm using the stick but I just can't execute this shit fast enough when I'm not meant to 'roll' it.

The only way I can pull of pic related is by spam rolling the stick and hitting Y and Square and then it only comes out some of the time. If I actually attempt to purely execute the move I'm just too slow.

I only dabbled with Mitsurugi (cause I got a good sword in his style in Libera of souls) and I think the trick is to think like you're playing Raph, verticals all day. Trying to switch to horizontal after doing verticals results in a counter (I forget the proper term for the Rock Paper Scissors thing) which can be nice but clearly need some learning.

ON the topic of SC6, anyone else getting massive pangs of Donut Steel with Groh in Libera? Whoever made him and did the Libera mode just can't stop jerking him off. Meanwhile you're just left there standing like an asshole, even though you do all the work (But rest assured he's totally doing cool things off screen).

I fucking relished the side mission I got to fight him, except he was 7 levels above me and I was using Mitsurugi (for like the first time). Even still I put up a good fight and probably could have gotten through it but I figured I'd go level up and switch back to Nightmare, but did the main mission and locked myself out of it. And there's no manual saves so I can't go back.

Meanwhile Azwel is being an all around Cool guy (if slightly questionable) but I can't go with him. Where's the shitty moral choice of staying with the Douche brigade or going with Azwel in his Dragula to do cool shit and not get treated like a chump? And is there a reason to be good? Most of the weapons I got synergize with evil and only killing the monk seemed evil, but that could be rationalize easily as good. All the rest have made evil seem sensible. Meanwhile, to quote Dark Helmet, "Because good is dumb".

Understandable, but by that time SNK didn't have all that much of a workforce as they had back then, got kind of hurried by Sony, etc. With the success they're having, they can probably afford a few more artists/programmers/modelers. The new SamSho trailer showed they have learned a bit.

If you're dexterous enough, you can pull it off. t. dpad user

Learn how to position and move your thumb. Don't go for the complicated motions right off the bat, go from QCFs, then to HCFs and then DPs. Trust me, I still have problems with Orochinagi (AKA QCx, HCx) motions but supers aren't compulsory to win if you're playing casuals. Somehow I still can pull off Guile's super and pretzels. Sometimes just a better use of normals and/or the game's mechanics themselves will help you more.

How can they make 50 characters in XIV and you say they were rushed or hurried? I would rather them have the same engine and models with a huge roster than have a SF4 paintbrush style theme like they're doing with Samsho. If they are doing any styling then it is going to fail because people will always want them to use the XIII sprites than some kind of 3D style.

I'm too retarded when it comes to 3D games, how do I get good? In 2D games I know the basic things that a character needs to function, but in 3D there's so much shit I have no idea what I'm looking for. Whenever I learn a new character in 2D I just start with a basic AA, good enders for pressure, natural or staggered frametraps/mixups, some neutral tools, etc. and work my way from there. What are the basic tools I should be learning or looking for first in 3D when learning a character?

3D only adds a couple ways to get punished, sidestepping and ring out. Horizontal attacks reach for sidesteppers but are often slightly slower and less damaging. Verticals hurt for more and have okay speed but a mere side step and you're done. Kicks are usually fastest but their reach is little and do generally little damage. I think your first focus should be to learn your basic combos and basic defence, defence is especially important on SCVI and turning a defence into an offence is often the best way to win a round. Dont shy from doing the tutorial or spending some time in training mode against a dummy to get a good feel on how the character is played, whats your reach and your speed.

Later levels involve getting around enemy defence, usually via grabs or low attacks. Grabs feel scummy but so are ring out and special throws so might aswel use them. The best way to gain advantage is to be on the offensive most of the time and trying to get around your opponent,s defence as much as possible. High end play involves move cancelling and stance dancing to fish for some low fag kick with a stun that you can prop your combo from. Fuck you Siegfried Pick a character you feel good playing as, read some of the tooltips and train away. I'd also suggest you try most characters to get a good idea what their movesets are so you dont get destroyed by fags like Taki online because you have no fucking clue how they play and how to react to them.

I'm learning Yoshimitsu now and he's absolutely ridiculous. No wonder I kept getting my ass handed to me, aside from his insane speed he has super easy combos that flow into each other and lead into unblockables and free critical edges. SS rank for sure, prime target for a nerf.

SC can be broken down into basic components first, and then you build from there.

The horizontal (A) attack chains on every character is often some of their fastest moves. These are for getting quick shots in on the opponent before they can block or do some other slower attack on you first. After you block any attack, AAA is probably the first thing you want to do in many cases. If you hit them, you've probably just scored yourself some frame advantage, and you can move on to the slower but harder hitting attacks, hopefully with even more frame advantage or knock downs or launchers, which you then capitalize on with your slowest but heaviest attacks.

Aside from their speed, A attacks are also for interrupting people trying to side-step/8-way run. If your A chain was blocked, immediately block after your chain is done, or immediately guard impact because you can be 95% certain there's an A chain coming back at you next. If your A chain is guard impacted, you may or may not be able to block depending on frame advantage, it's usually a better idea to try to guard impact them back. If you get stuck in a constant GI back and forth, a useful trick is to just stand still for a second to let them whiff a GI, then punish them. Alternatively, you can grab them.

The vertical (B) attacks chains are generally slower and do more damage, but they aren't terribly slow. Most people after scoring the initial A chain hits will attempt B chain hits. If you were hit by an A chain, your next options are either to block, guard impact, or side-step and attack.

Kicks (K) can be pretty fast and used as an alternative to A chains. Usually a low kick is a good option to poke someone who's blocking a lot, and then you branch out from there.

The rest is just memorizing the movelist of the characters, practicing the inputs, and recognizing the best moments in a fight to utilize them once you've broken out of the beginning A chains. The only other thing to note would be Reversal Edge, which on the surface is rock, paper, scissors (but with additional choices) but if you go one layer deeper you will find that certain characters have choices that would be more beneficial to them than the others, thus people playing those characters will be more likely to make a specific choice, thus making them more predictable. For example, If Yoshimitsu gets an A hit in Reversal Edge, he can follow it up with an additional A attack. So, if you are fighting against Yoshimitsu, it's often a good idea to go with B to beat out the A he will most likely be attempting for that bonus attack.

learn your block punishes & whiff punishes, that's the 3d equivalent of knowing your AAs. simplify your character into 10 or so good moves and build a strategy around them. plenty of guides can help you with that. a very important thing to understand is that a lot of strings and combos in 3d games aren't real although many will have delays or mid/low variants that create canned mixups

this is a t7 video but it does a pretty good job of explaining how you can deal with that kind of pressure. in sc you have the added option of gi or reverse edge as well. if a mid/low come out on the same frame in a string & it isn't jailing then you can just gi for free. get good at picking apart the enemy's pressure so you can punish them heavily whenever they try to bullshit you. offensively, matchups are much more important in sc b/c they affect the relative safety of your moves. most of the mid to long range characters do not have a 10 frame punish & the short ranged ones will often struggle to get any kind of punishment against some of your longer pokes.

Xrd is good, but it is very different so you may not like it if you really adored the XX series. It won't be updated until the end of 2019 at least, so you don't need to worry about it being supplanted by XX_Guilty_Gear_XX.

they might do it how tekken 7 did with a mix of returning and guests in every season and i'm betting we get at least 2 seasons out of SC6

Bayo and Dante in the same game would be amazing, but I have feeling nobody thats in smash is going to be in any other crossovers soon. (funny as namco is also doing most of the development work on smash ultimate). Geralt and 2B make sense as those were both big sellers. so any further guests would have to be connected to recent events or big releases. (so no Rayne from BloodRayne unfortunately)

While I agree that was sort of shitty from what I've heard the only reason she got included at all was because the higher ups were convinced by potential DLC revenue, otherwise she'd just have been cut. Now I'm not saying that makes it okay, I just get that while the dev team pretty clearly are passionate they can't say no to the realities of game development.

No, its because the character was shown and completely playable well before release, and the excuse they gave; that she was added too late into development, was bullshit. While I agree it was likely a call from the higher-ups to do this, I cant in good conscience get involved in this game for that reason alone. And people, like you, treating it as a "reality of game development" is the reason shit like this continues to happen. Its not, and was never an issue until they realized weak-willed individuals are willing to part with their money for shit that would've been included in previous games because they just have to buy the newest shiniest shit right when it releases. They were doing no extra work but demanding extra cash for it, its kikery plain and simple; and treating it as something thats just going to happen anyway is why its gotten this bad in the first place and will only make it worse as time goes on.

If she were free, I'd have no complaints. If she weren't included at all, I'd have no complaints. But as it stands, I am not buying, regardless of how fun it may be. Maybe, just MAYBE, I'll shell out for a complete edition with the DLC included for one price if it ever comes around. But Bamco doesnt seem to do that so I'll just be happy playing SC2&3 and going without and would urge anyone on the fence about SC6 to do the same.

I'm surprised people are mainly disappointed in that Tira dlc situation rather than the whole content of the game. The game is mostly reused assets from previous game and still only has 20 characters, 11 stages and less cas shit from previous games. And still costs 60$. And on top of that the DLC cas content you'll pay for will most likely be stuff from previous games ported, though that's still just an assumption

I have not seen any recycled assets. The designs are often deliberate recreations of past games, particularly the first game since VI takes place between I and II, but it's not a straight port of anything anywhere. The change in engine would make it too obvious and ugly to port things over, it got made from scratch, and doing so takes a lot of time, especially with modern graphical standards at play.

I don't have an encyclopedic knowledge of all stun moves in the game so I can't say for certain none of them are cheap, but after 40ish hours of online play I can't think of a single stun attack that has hit me that I would say is cheap. Unless you are including knockdowns in with stuns, which is not something you should be doing, but I can think of one knockdown in particular that is cheap as hell, which is Seong Mi-na's highly spamable low poke.

Have you SEEN Nightmare in this game? He's faster than he's ever been and he hits like a goddamn truck. Some characters of course hit harder than others, but even low damage characters like Talim still get one or two moves that on hit do an impressive amount of damage. Sophita's B+K B 4 under Soul Charge and counter hit does 114 damage, basically half the opponent's health. Or you can do 2 B B instead for only 111 damage on SC+CH. These are SAFE moves, so if it gets blocked you just block the incoming retaliation and try again.

A quick glance of SCV stages online I can see how Sinking Merchant Ship and Astral Chaos look very similar to a couple of stages in VI, but they are using completely different models and textures despite having the same overall theme behind them.

Seems like you're familiar with SC so maybe you can give me some advice, of course anyone else is also welcome to help me if he wants. I got a few hundred hours of experience with Tekken so I thought I would do just fine with other 3D fightans but it seems like every single one of my habits just bite me in the ass. Mainly because of the way that attack frames work is completely different in SC, basically 90% of moves are plus on block for whatever reason. I keep trying to do an AA after I blocked something to see if it's unsafe but I almost always eat a counter hit. Sidestepping also seems like a bad idea because half of each character's moves are horizontal and will catch you, so it's very risky. RE is useless because it's always a mix-up which has the potential to fuck you up much more than getting hit with a normal attack and everyone who's not a complete beginner will just sidestep it or do a break attack anyways.

So how do I deal with pressure in this game compared to Tekken? Should I just try to throw out GIs in between their moves?

So my first question is who you mainly go for playing, and if it's all over that's probably good to get a feel for what you like, but the basics should be understood with one character before you go trying all of them and sucking a lot with them all at once.

So every character has stances which change the moveset from a simple

>face buttons+directional facebuttons+combinations+tap/hold inputs

to a more complex

To enter your character's stance it's usually kick and heavy strike simultaniously but not always

From there you have a bit more options as far as how you attack more options means less predictabol, means you can't be countered as quickly. Some stances are slow to get into and make you slow as shit, and are mostly for baiting or otherwise chaining your last series of blows to a new set. Some stances are a brand new set of movement options like voldo's.

Not true actually; your light attacks, A, will be mostly horizontal through each character, and your B, heavy attacks, will be mostly verticals or otherwise stabby, straight facing strikes. Kicks are a whole demon on their own as far as mixups and jabbing goes.

If you sidestep when you see the enemy rearing up for a vertical, you will be safe, unless it hits multiple times or if it's wide, in which case blocking the second hit or continuously moving around them until you can deny their onslaught is the best option. Tekken is pretty similar to SC, except instead of everyone having fists everyone has a unique fighting style that matches a weapon; if you look at tekken as the martial art and look at SC as the weapon that is paired with that martial art you'll start to see some similarities maybe

I agree, it shouldn't be in the game. It's just more RPS when fighting games are a very complex game of RPS to begin with; it's just a slowdown that makes you look at one move for a very long time to watch how different attack styles interact with each other. Sidestepping in that mode requires you to know what your opponent will do and dodge accordingly; Up and down are for vertical, forward is for horizontal and back is for kick if I'm not mistaken.

The thing you have to remember is that every character is mostly balanced for fun, so you shouldn't have trouble adapting styles, especially when you consider most things are just a matter of reach when you account for the fact that light is a swipe, kick is a jab, and heavy is an overhead or upper.

So far I've mostly used Siegfried and I did pretty well because I could rely on keepout and doing mixups from his stances after getting a knockdown. However once the opponent gets close I'm fucked, especially if it's a fast character like Taki. Today I tried to play Sophitia and since she has much shorter range I'm always stuck with the opponent in my face endlessly pressing buttons and I feel like I can't do anything about it.

I keep forgetting that GI exists though so I guess I should try to focus on doing that. It's probably just a matter of getting used to the game and becoming more familiar with each character's attacks; I still can't get rid of the feeling I'm playing Tekken when in fact SC is much more similar to anime fighters in a lot of ways so I'll have to better adapt to it.

Sounds like after block you are attempting to do slower attacks that don't have the frame advantage. As I mentioned in this post >>15646787 most of the time after a block you will be doing an A chain to try to open up the opponent as they are typically your fastest moves. Some characters have other super fast moves that can be used too (like kicks), it just depends. You could also go for a throw, or go for a low attack and hope they don't see it coming and block it in time.

Honestly this looks more like a corporate answer than anything related to DOA6. You can't customize costumes and even if they have different colors of the same costume set as a different slot in the selection, the options would still be too few to justify the model. It doesn't look they're adding other stuff that are likely to put in lootboxes like taunts, intros, outros As matter of fact, special intros were tied to Tag in DOA5 that is completely absent in 6 and I don't think icons, titles and other silly stuff for online profile would even phase the person who wants a different costume for his main. So going with a similar model to 5 that already proved success would be the better idea.

In SFV, lootboxes are just another way to lure you into wasting your FM so you don't have enough to buy stages and characters that are also obtainable with real money so it's not the endgame like Overwatch and some other games have as revenue. It's just to keep you "engaged" in the game doing challenges that happens for a limited time so it's more of the game "is your boss" and demands you to play through a threat than your own free will.

Can anyone give me general advice for fighting Nightmare? Out of everyone online I have the most trouble vs him. I know the best thing to do is pick him up myself to learn his strengths/weaknesses, I've put time int Cervantes and am currently fooling around with Yoshi and Nightmare is definitely next on the list.

The main thing I'm getting rekt by as is obvious is just how much range and speed his attacks have. If I can get in and bamboozle the fucker it's no issue but that usually only happens out of dumb luck or the person I'm fighting fucking up. If they're playing keepout and laying pressure well I can't seem to do much.

50% of Sophies gamplan is to make the opponent very scared of throwing out anything remotely unsafe with her glorious i14 stab so don't slack off on those. Here are some neat moves to use:

Good old BB and AA: Both are fast and have decent range and gives you the advantage don't be afraid to use it

66K launches and is only -14 on block,

6K is a safe poke that gives you 45 or so damage on counterhit. Use it freely.

44K catches step and is reasonably fast and gives you nice +frames and the 4KK feint gives you advantage on block.

1K is amazingly annoying on wakeup and can be charged to make it safe/more damage. Also gives you a ton of meter if you LH with it post GI.

A+B might be slow but one funny thing about it is that she crouches throughout the whole thing so you can use it to approach nightmares/siegfrieds/minas who use long horizontals that hit high. It also just looks good when you shield punch someone.
