Yes, they do. Long story short, here's what happened. Columbus had made "friends" with some of the natives that he had met on his first voyage to the Americas. Wanting to learn more abut the people's culture he left some of his crew behind to gather more information that he couldn't obtain in the short timespan that he was give (Because, keep in mind, they had spent 70 days at sea getting there, the longest length of time anyone had spent at sea during those days without seeing land, plus the amount of time they took exploring the land, and now they had to make the trail home to report on their expedition). Now, after that, it was about a year before Columbus started on his second expedition. During that time, the Natives had thought of the left-behind crew as sacrifices (or something), killed them, and ate them (Because the natives were cannibals too). When Columbus finally returned, and saw what became of his men, he was furious and led a small campaign against the natives. Afterwards, he regretted the whole thing, and went on to do two more voyages.

I say that as somebody whose waifus in the two main routes each die in at least one other route.

I think the third route was a chance to change things up in regards to when you get characters, but they ended up pretty much giving you a bunch of Hoshido characters right away and shoving the worthwhile Nohr ones until the end. I would have loved it if the characters were better balanced, and a lot of that could have been done by just changing when you get them. Give me characters like Benny and Charlotte early on. Give me that dickhead priest as an early healer instead of the hoshido sister. But nope. After that initial batch of underlevelled characters, they just start shoving the best ones at you right away. They hold off on the Nohr brothers, but you have so many good units by then that it doesn't matter anyway. I probably would have sold the game if it wasn't from my kid.

Pretty much, and a part me wishes they stopped shoving popular poll characters into the mix. One of the things that killed my interest with fates is the fact they recycled Awakening characters, and put them as units as a way to equal out the casts for both sides especially on Nohr's side, and it irked me even more that they're romanceable again even though they may have gotten together with someone or Robin in Awakening. As much as I liked that pile of garbage known as Awakening, I never wanted to see those characters again in If/Fates with the exception as cameos, references, or in the form of einherjars. To me, their stories are over, and that's that.

Worry less about your license and more about if you can actually afford a car. If your job doesn't require you to have a license or a car, you can wait on it for now.
