God of War was a known franchise coming back from a long hiatus. It's was guaranteed pretty good sales regardless, so they could take credit for it's success after the fact. Emulation, in and of itself, is 100% legal according to the government of the U.S. However (And, this is where things get murky), acquiring ROMs off of the internet is illegal unless the company has publicly distributed them (Which even then is sketchy because you have instances of games going "freeware" only to then be removed a few years later and be up on sale again, like what happened with The Suffering). However however, there are ways you can "illegally download" shit such as games and apps for the Wii U and the 3DS, but it is also a 100% legal process because these downloads are hidden behind titlekeys and not an actual security procedure.
Simply put, the legality surrounding emulation is all speculation except for the fact that emulators in all forms and fashion are legal.

Nintendo definitely did not like and does not want to repeat what happened with Fates and #FE. That entire shit show is definitely the source of their new stance that all versions of their games are the same across regions and that localizers will work with developers now. People worried about netflix though I would say don't count them as an enemy. Netflix to me just looks extremely desperate to license fucking anything. Yeah when Nintendo announced their new localization plan I was fucking terrified too. However so far with that we have gotten Xenoblade 2 which is by no means perfect. However it was definitely a lot friendlier to what we want then what the censors want. It seems what NOA didn't expect happened, happened the actual developers stood behind their work and convinced the people in charge that this is how video games should be made. What they have now made GoW into, is the video game equivalent of Oscar bait, or I guess you could call it GOTY bait. That's what these "narrative" focused games are, it started with Uncharted 2 or maybe even Bioshock and solidified with The Last of Us. Games can't win awards solely on the merit of their gameplay now a days.
The reason more people aren't pissed off that God of War changed to this in the same way people were pissed at DmC, is because the appeal of GoW as a series isn't like DMC, were it was about combat from day one. God of War has always been about the spectacle first. The average person who buys GoW is going to be a button masher, so they're happy as long as there are pretty graphics. Most people don't even play long enough to beat their games anymore.
Anyone player that has taken the time to go really in depth with the previous God of War games combat, was likely already someone who played DMC, Ninja Gaiden or Bayonetta. No one who likes to get super in depth with combat is going to have GoW as their main series, that they play every day, GoW would just be something to play on the side because it's still a decent game.
That's why the outrage is so small in this scenario, The average button masher never cared that much about combat depth in the first place, and people who do care about Combat have already been playing better games for years.

At some point Con-man Inafune got the bright idea that Westernization was a big deal and what was needed for all Capcom games. Their first attempt at this was the Bionic Commando reboot, the only saving grace was that Grin studios was smart enough to also make BC Re-armed.
Then what happened was Itsuno was making Dragons Dogma. This left DMC on the shelf for a few years, Con-man convince everyone that DmC needed to go western, Ninja Theroy was chosen and we all know how that turned out.
The idea was that DmC being a fresh start and re branding was going to drawn in tons of new people, while keeping the old fans too. but since everyone evolved was an utter retard, this had the exact opposite effect. It didn't bring in anyone new, and old fans didn't even touch it.
What's really retarded though is that DMC was always had a great balance of both Western and Eastern influences. DMC3 was as great as it was because Reuben Langdon had a ton of input on how Dante should be as a character, explaining to the people he was working with what western audiences would and wouldn't think was cool.
DmC just cutout half of what made DMC's style great by making it only Western, instead of both East and West.

Over the game I played an old PS2 game called Ghost Hunter and while it's clear they ran out of time or budget the climax of that game was so much more incredible than it had any right to be. You finally rescue the professor, the cool ghost hunter, only for him to totally flake out on you because he's too afraid to fight the main villain. In your darkest hour he's nowhere to be found. But the computer AI at the ghosthunter base based on an older version of the professor creates a super powerful juggernaut body to save you life. Then the game switches to his perspective as you rampage through this secret government facility to try and bring the MC back to life and set off the ghost nuke that will destroy the villain's army once and for all.

Killzone was far more competent than most of the other FPS games sony released at the time, the problem is it was too little too late.
