Hey everyone, I’ve been thinking about something and could really use your input. My aunt lives alone in Philly and her health has been declining, so we’re starting to look into hiring some help for her at home. I keep seeing mentions of different jobs like aides and caregivers, but I honestly don’t know what the differences are or what roles are even available. When my cousin went through this for her mom, she said it was confusing at first too. For people who’ve been through hiring home care support in Pennsylvania, what kinds of jobs should I be asking about and how do you figure out what’s actually needed?

That’s a great question, and we were in the same situation when we started looking for help for my grandpa. What really helped us was going through a list of home care roles so we could understand what each one does — because honestly, titles like caregiver, home health aide, and personal support can blur together if you’re new to this. I found a helpful resource that breaks down the various home support jobs and what they involve here in PA: Home Care Jobs https://carepointpa.com/jobs/ . Just reading through that gave us a much better idea of what to look for and what questions to ask agencies. Once we knew the options, everything felt way clearer.

I don’t have personal experience hiring someone, but my neighbor recently started working in home care and she talks a lot about how diverse the roles are. Some are more focused on daily living assistance, others on specific health-related needs, and some even help with errands and companionship. Just from listening to her, I can tell that understanding the different jobs makes the whole process a lot less stressful. It’s reassuring to read posts like this and see how much support is actually out there once you know what to look for.
