I am not sure if this is the right way to mention my message here, yet I just need some suggestions.

I am taking my work seriously. In the corporate IT sector, as a fresher am Working late hours, and working on holidays, just expecting to get a good impression of my seniors, in anticipation of a good appraisal. But, I got scolded today, for working on a holiday. Being jobless for 2 years prior to this job, has put the thoughts in my head that, work is the first priority. My seniors want me to work for stipulated hours, and am disobeying that direct order, and working longer.

I feel that, the work I am doing in my current job, won't help me anywhere. But, still am kinda very serious about it, just to get a good impression, and the fact that I was jobless before.

On the technical front; for fella IT people around here; I work on basic oracle sql queries; fetching data from the db. Further on this; please suggest a technology, that I should rather study than giving more hours to my work, where my seniors hate workaholics.

You folks can further use this thread to post similar requests.

You're trying too hard, which makes everyone else look bad. You need to get a feel for the amount of work that your coworkers regularly do, then adjust your own work to more closely match that level of work.

Simply put, you made a bad judgement call. And you're going to get fired if you keep that shit up. Do a good job at your work, certainly. But don't outperform everyone else. Especially when you are still new.
