And let's not forget the writing. There's stuff in there to actually read, rather than just images for your pituitary gland to react too.
You can find Mangakas who have similar insight to impression like G.A does (see lots in Sports manga..) but their stories are mundane as fuck.
Take Black Box by Tsutomu Takahashi-- no interest at all in boxing, but every single panel has details to marvel at, that I'd personally never think of if I tried to draw the same thing.
