yes and no and maybe it's arguing semantics to some extent, but just scanning the wikipedia page. there is mention of soybean oil, which comes from a legume. grape seed oil, which comes from a fruit. cocoa butter, which comes from a seed pod of a tree. olive oil, which again is technically a fruit and not a vegetable. palm oil, which the entry wonderfully states is a "vegetable oil" that, yet again, is "derived from a fruit".
my whole hang up with the commercial "vegetable oil" is this. soy beans are legumes and not vegetables. i've grown corn my whole life and have never extracted "oil" from corn. if i grew corn that felt oily like an olive, i would be worried that it was compromised by some gmo.
