do any of you know someone who has fled the United States to avoid prosecution? is it possible to do by plane, or do they check for outstanding arrest warrants at the airport?

yes they check at airports, what you need to do is get south of the border and take a plane from there. But if you go through a border checkpoint they will most likely check there too
