RAINBOW SIX (Tom Clancy novel; 1998)
An international counter-terrorist unit combats a world-wide radical leftist and environmentalist group pushing for de-population release a virus to usher in a socialist utopia and start their plan by initiating multiple false-flag terrorist events. Key players (bad guys) are a former Russian KGB agent, a former corrupt FBI agent, and a head of a biotechnology firm whose wife is heavily involved in the plan and a politician (science advisor to the president). After the initial release of the virus and worldwide pandemic, the same biotechnology firm that released it, distributes a 'vaccine' that actually contains a slow-acting version of the virus to kill off millions more. The 'chosen few' would receive a real vaccine and would inherit a whole new world; thus saving it from the 'virus of humanity'………Ironic
