U.S.-Affiliated Arms Trafficker Assassinated In Southern Syria

A militant who worked as an arm trafficker for the U.S.-led Military Operations Center (MOC) in Jordan was reportedly assassinated in the southern Syrian governorate of Daraa on March 11.

Two unknown gunmen riding a motorcycle shot and killed the trafficker, Farzat Muhammad al-Mahamid, along with his brother, Ihab Mohammed Al-Mahameed, on a road near the town of Om Elmiathin in eastern Daraa.

Farzat had reportedly joined the reconciliation process and received guarantees that he will not be targeted by Syrian security forces.

Such assassinations are usually blamed on the Syrian intelligence. However, there is a chance that the trafficker was targeted by a terrorist group, like ISIS whose cells are known to be active in Daraa.

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham Terrorists Clash With Locals In Northern Idlib

On March 12, heavy clashes erupted between Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) security forces and locals in the town of Saramada in the northern Idlib countryside.

Syrian Military Discovered Terrorist Prison At Former Ice Cream Factory

The Syrian military have discovered a prison and a court, where terrorists sentenced locals to death for even the smallest of infringements in the town of Al Qasimiyah in Aleppo province.

The prison was located in a former ice cream factory.

“This was their prison. There are several cells — both big and small. Even women and children were imprisoned here, a total of 500 people,” a Syrian serviceman named Hadjar told Russian journalists.

The place is littered with prisoners’ belongings and jumpsuits of those sentenced to public executions.

“Here are sewage pits, [the terrorists] dumped those whom they considered particularly dangerous or guilty there,” the serviceman said.

According to the locals, the militants would punish even the smallest infringement: curfew violation, failure to pay debt, a woman appearing without headscarf in public and even for expression of disrespect to the terrorists. The so-called sharia morality police watched over this.

“I’ve been imprisoned for six months,” serviceman Ahmad Mugairi, apprehended by the militants over charges of collaboration with the Syrian army, told journalists. Mugairi managed to escape and joined the government forces. “What Army could I have collaborated with, if there were only militants around for 10 years at that point? See all these papers — these are records of people, most of whom bore no guilt, the militants just disliked them.”

Intense Fighting Erupted Among Turkish-backed Groups In Syria’s Azaz

On March 11, an intense fighting erupted among Turkish-backed militant groups in the town of Azaz in northwestern Syria. According to reports, the clashes took place in the southern vicinity of the town and caused a state of panic among locals. The main reason of tensions is contradictions between Turkish proxies that are involved in a wide range of criminal activities and regularly clash for spheres of influence.

A researcher at MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence (CSAIL) lab has trained a neural network—a learning AI system modeled after the structure of the human brain that can be taught to find patterns in information on its own—to create sentences based on Donald Trump’s victory speeches in the presidential primary elections.

Creator Bradley Hayes was inspired by a similar neural network trained to simulate Shakespeare quotes, as well as a recent report that Trump generally speaks at an elementary-school level. “Trump’s language tends to be more simplistic, so I figured that, as a modeling problem, he would be the most manageable candidate to study,” Hayes said in a release.

The Trump AI was trained on a few hours of Trump’s speeches, randomly choosing letters to start sentences and then building them out letter-by-letter. As MIT explained in a release, if the bot chooses the letter “M,” it will potentially be followed by the letter “A” and then “K,” until it spells out Trump’s favorite hat-based saying, “Make America Great Again.”

Hayes applied the bot to one of Trump’s favorite outlets, Twitter. The twitter bot called @DeepDrumpf (named after a recent John Oliver segment about Trump’s heritage) builds tweets that sound remarkably similar to the staccato style of Trump’s tweets.

The NHL decided to shut down the season after the NBA decided to suspend games after a player for the Utah Jazz tested positive for Coronavirus.

Liposomal Vitamin C

Ingredients:

Water - 26.8% (254.6g)

40% vodka or spirit - 35.6% (337.8g)

Ascorbic acid - 16.9% (160.5g)

Lecithin granules - 20.7% (197.1g)

Total weight 950g

Makes about 800ml liposomal vitamin C after the bubbles have been removed.

Instructions:

Place the water, alcohol and vitamin C on the stove and heat while stirring. Be sure to turn off the heat when the vitamin C starts to dissolve. Keep on stirring until the vitamin C has been completely dissolved. You may add a little more heat at intervals if it’s needed to continue the dissolving process.

Add Lecithin and blend for about four minutes. It is important that mixture is nicely warm to touch as this ensures that the lecithin granules have melted and avoids any chance of separation. If you have not heated the lecithin granules enough at this stage you’ll see separation in your mix after a day or two. 

When finished, place the mixture in the refrigerator. Repeat this blending and refrigerating process five or six times over twelve hours to be sure the lecithin granules have been thoroughly dissolved into the water, alcohol and vitamin C solution.

With the exception of the first blending cycle, be sure that the temperature doesn’t exceed 32°C

Dosage:

This recipe contains about 0.2 grams of vitamin C per millilitre. Take about 60ml per day in the evening. This works out to about 12 grams of vitamin C.

For those who have ultrasonic machines:

Place your liposomal vitamin C in the beaker into your ultrasound machine and irradiate it until the temperature reaches 32°C. Once it does, place the beaker back into your refrigerator for an hour or so to cool it down again.

Repeat this process until the liposomal vitamin C has had an hour of cumulative ultrasonic irradiation.

After increases in its repo facility twice already this week, from $100billion to $150billion to $175billion per day, and adding added a new 1-month term repo facility, the New York Fed just stunned the market and fired its biggest bazooka since Lehman (not coincidentally, just moments before today's 30Y Treasury auction, as a failed auction would mean, well, game over), by announcing a total of $1 trillion in 3-month repos over two days ($500BN today, $500BN tomorrow), as well as an additional $500BN in one-month repos offered weekly, which means up to $3 trillion in cumulative repos (if fully allotted) may be online by the end of the month.

But wait, there's more, because the fed also finally threw in the towel on the semantics bullshit it was pulling since Sept 2019 by pretending that "QE" is "NOT QE", when it officially expanded not-QE/QE4 to Q5, when it announced it would start purchasing coupon Treasuries as part of its POMO operations, which as a reminder, was the official trigger transforming Not QE into QE .

For some context of how that compares to what they have been doing, assuming full allotment on the 2 $500BN repos…

Full Statement by NYFed:

The Open Market Trading Desk (the Desk) at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York has released a new monthly schedule of Treasury securities operations and has updated the current monthly schedule of repurchase agreement (repo) operations. Pursuant to instruction from the Chair in consultation with the FOMC, adjustments have been made to these schedules to address temporary disruptions in Treasury financing markets. The Treasury securities operation schedule includes a change in the maturity composition of purchases to support functioning in the market for U.S. Treasury securities. Term repo operations in large size have been added to enhance functioning of secured U.S. dollar funding markets.

As a part of its $60 billion reserve management purchases for the monthly period beginning March 13, 2020 and continuing through April 13, 2020, the Desk will conduct purchases across a range of maturities to roughly match the maturity composition of Treasury securities outstanding. Specifically, the Desk plans to distribute reserve management purchases across eleven sectors, including nominal coupons, bills, Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities, and Floating Rate Notes. The distribution of purchases across sectors will be the same distribution as the Desk uses to reinvest principal payments from the Federal Reserve’s holdings of agency debt and agency MBS in Treasury securities. The first such purchases will begin tomorrow, March 13, 2020.

Today, March 12, 2020, the Desk will offer $500 billion in a three-month repo operation at 1:30 pm ET that will settle on March 13, 2020.

Tomorrow, the Desk will further offer $500 billion in a three-month repo operation and $500 billion in a one-month repo operation for same day settlement.

Three-month and one-month repo operations for $500 billion will be offered on a weekly basis for the remainder of the monthly schedule.

The Desk will continue to offer at least $175 billion in daily overnight repo operations and at least $45 billion in two-week term repo operations twice per week over this period.

These changes are being made to address highly unusual disruptions in Treasury financing markets associated with the coronavirus outbreak. Reserve management purchases into the second quarter will continue to be conducted with this maturity allocation. The terms of operations will be adjusted as needed to foster smooth Treasury market functioning and efficient and effective policy implementation.

Last Call: Jersey Enacts City-Wide Liquor Curfew To Battle COVID-19 Spread

With community spreading underway in the Tri-state area, Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop said new containment measures to control the Covid-19 outbreak would start by curbing liquor sales at "larger nightclubs" after 10 pm.

At a news conference on Thursday afternoon, quoted by Bloomberg, Fulop said there are no confirmed virus cases in Jersey City, New Jersey's second-most-populous area, and home to many Wall Street firms. He said it is now time to implement preventive measures, including restricting City Hall visits, suspending parking-permit sales and renewals, and canceling city-sponsored or permitted events.

He also asked large restaurants "to be tracking attendance, best as they can" in case there's an outbreak, which would allow health officials to easily find possible people with infections.

The nightclub liquor restrictions are expected to start this weekend, he said.

This comes at a time when mass gatherings across the country have been restricted to prevent the transmission of the fast-spreading virus. Already, Seattle, California, and Washington, D.C., have limited public gatherings over 250 people.

FISA Reforms Are Insufficient & No One Has Been Held Accountable

Senior FBI officials lied. Senior State Department, Intelligence and Department of Justice officials also lied and played a crucial role in one of the most egregious investigations into a United States president in modern political history: the bureau’s probe into President Donald Trump’s campaign and it’s alleged collusion with Russia.

It was built on a foundation of lies propagated by a dossier supplied by the private research firm Fusion GPS and cultivated by a former British spy Christopher Steele, who was paid with funding from the Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee.

The majority of FBI agents involved in the hoax have either been fired or have resigned. Yet, none of them, even those caught lying to Department of Justice investigators under oath, have been prosecuted. It’s an outrage.

The most egregious violations were exposed by DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz and House Intelligence Committee now-ranking member Rep. Devin Nunes’ Russia report. Horowitz, whose report fell short of exposing the true nature of the investigation, identified “at least 17 significant errors or omissions in the Carter Page FISA applications and many errors in the Woods Procedures” which guide the FBI’s FISA process, according to the 476-page report.

Nunes report exposed the FISA Court violations much earlier and was vindicated by the findings of Horowitz.

“These errors and omissions resulted from case agents providing wrong or incomplete information to the National Security Division’s Office of Intelligence and failing to flag important issues for discussion,” Horowitz said.

These weren’t just simple mistakes or lack of oversight.

The errors and omissions were done purposefully to spy on short-term Trump campaign advisor Carter Page in an effort to target the Trump campaign and later the administration.

Meanwhile, Congress has still not authorized reparations for the countless Trump supporters, who remain as powerless crime victims amidst all of the DOJ’s and FBI’s lies, Carter Page

These bureau officials withheld significant information from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court when they applied for a warrant to spy on an American. Remember, by the time they began spying on Page in September, 2016 he was no longer with the Trump campaign.

On Wednesday the House passed legislation with broad bipartisan support to reauthorize the FISA bill that was set to expire Sunday. These lawmakers promised that the reforms would be sufficient to protect Americans from unwarranted surveillance abuses by the FBI in the secret Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) court.

It’s not true and the FISA reforms will not be sufficient, say opponents.

MLB suspends spring training

Major League Baseball made the only decision that made sense Thursday: Suspending the rest of the spring training schedule and likely delaying opening day. It’s been a whirlwind week for baseball and sports in general as the country wrestles with the outbreak of coronavirus and how to protect players and fans. We’ve seen the NBA and MLS suspend their seasons, almost every conference tournament in the NCAA get canceled and drastic changes to March Madness.

Baseball was among the last dominoes to fall. ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports that the league is expected to announce the decision Thursday afternoon after a conference call with owners. Operations would cease Friday, as many of Thursday’s games in Florida were already underway. In a matter of four days, MLB went from issuing policies to limit clubhouse access to a full-scale shutdown of spring training. With opening day scheduled for two weeks from Thursday, this leaves a lot of unanswered questions for baseball fans — some that simply can’t be answered right now. Here’s what we know currently about the shutdown of baseball and what to expect next.

What does this mean for the start of the regular season? In short: We don’t know yet. It would make sense, now that baseball has suspended games, to wait out the coronavirus scare and begin the season at a time that is deemed safe by everyone. It’s unclear whether MLB’s announcement will cover all of that ground, but reports indicate that players are expecting the season to be delayed. Realistically, if you have tickets to see your favorite team on opening day, don’t tattoo your seat number on your arm.

What are MLB’s options for reshaping its season? We’ve already heard talk of MLB wanting to move regular-season games to avoid places where coronavirus is more common. Seattle, for instance. MLB could decide to swap home and away cities. In the case of the Mariners, that would mean playing the season-opening series in Texas against the Rangers instead of Seattle. Another option is keeping everybody in their spring complexes and starting the season there. That plan was floated two days ago, but so much has happened to sports in the last two days, it’s also fair to wonder what happens in two days and then two days after that. The situation will remain fluid, like most everything coronavirus related.

Could MLB shorten its season? Compared to the NBA, one advantage MLB has is a big runway in front of it. There are two weeks before a 162-game season starts. That’s plenty of room for tinkering. If baseball wanted to hold off its season for a few extra weeks and scale back the schedule to 150 games, for instance, it wouldn’t really hinder things too much. Heck, it could be looked at as an experiment for what a shorter MLB season would look like for players, fans and ownership, since that’s something that’s been proposed in recent years.

What happens to players now? According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, MLB will ask players to stay at their spring complexes, but it won’t be a requirement. This jibes with what we in the lead up to this decision. One MLB executive told The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal that he expected teams to bunker down in their spring training complexes and continue with light workouts until there’s a firm resolution. It was also reported Thursday by Andy Martino of SNY that many players are in their spring complexes just waiting to be told what to do next.

What else have teams been doing to stay healthy? Numerous teams have pulled their scouts off the road amid coronavirus fears. When news of this broke Wednesday, it was the first indication that a full-scale shutdown of MLB was likely on the way. Yankees GM Brian Cashman explained why Thursday.

Has baseball seen anything like this before?

Sort of, though under far different circumstances. In 1995, after the strike ended, players were fast-tracked into the season with a shorter spring training and extra roster allowances once games started. That could provide something of a blueprint for a re-ramping up of the season. The fact that this is happening in spring training allows teams to keep preparation relatively under control, compared to if players were spread around the world at their offseason homes.
