Trump’s Labor Secretary Cut Epstein a Sweetheart Deal — Now He’s Gutting Sex Trafficking Prevention

As U.S. Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta receives flak for his past work ensuring immunity for Jeffrey Epstein in an infamous 2008 sweetheart deal that allowed the convicted sexual predator to be free of federal prosecution after he was investigated for running a child sex trafficking ring, his current actions in the Trump cabinet are also drawing renewed scrutiny.

Since coming to office, Acosta has attempted to drastically cut the budget for government efforts to combat child sex trafficking by about 80 percent, reports the Guardian.

In Acosta’s proposed Department of Labor budget for fiscal year 2020, the labor secretary hoped to decimate the resources of the department’s International Labor Affair Bureau (ILAB), knocking its budget down from last year’s $68 million to a mere $18.5 million.

The bureau is tasked with promoting “a fair global playing field for workers” by fighting against human trafficking, forced labor, and child enslavement, and is also seen as a critical tool in the fight to combat sex trafficking of minors.

The ILAB’s office also produces comprehensive congressionally-mandated reports on child labor and human trafficking around the world while maintaining an index of products and source countries that use child and forced labor, among other functions, according to the Daily Beast.

Experts claim that Acosta’s proposed slash-and-burn budget would mean that U.S. government efforts to curb sex trafficking would effectively grind to a halt.

The Department of Labor has done little to shed light on its reasoning behind the budget cuts, but in 2017 it released a press statement announcing its 2018 budget request where it stated that the government would save “$68 million by refocusing the Bureau of International Labor Affairs on ensuring that U.S. trade agreements are fair for American workers.”

Democratic Congresswoman Katherine Clark of Massachusetts has accused Acosta of ignoring the plight of the vulnerable, just as he had during his stint as U.S. attorney in the Southern District of Florida when he gave Epstein a slap on the wrist for one count of prostitution, landing the rapist in jail for only 13 months despite allegations that countless children had been victimized by his prostitution and trafficking ring.

In April, Clark grilled Acosta during a hearing about the Department of Labor’s funding request.

In a scathing exchange where Clark found Acosta to be “rude, dismissive, challenging,” the congresswoman grilled Acosta:

That is excellent … And I know that there are hundreds of thousands of adults and children who are victims of sex and labor trafficking in the U.S. Glad you are looking at it, glad you’ve detailed a comprehensive strategy.”

But you’ve also proposed a budget cut, almost 80 percent, 79 percent to ILAB where this work is done, bringing its budget from $68 million to just $18.5 million.

I’m sure you’ve come prepared to justify this cut to us, but it doesn’t go unnoticed that this isn’t the first time that you’ve ignored human trafficking.

How can we expect you, the Labor Secretary, to fight for American workers if you couldn’t even fight for these girls?”

Back in 2017 Israel and the US created a working Group to counter Iran. The facade is to counter Iran building nuclear weapons, which is ironic since Israel built its nuclear weapons by stealing from the US and the US is the only country to have ever actually use nuclear weapons. Iran is not building nuclear weapons, that’s just an excuse to punish Iran economically for thwarting Israel’s regional ambitions.

Countering Iranian ballistic missiles development and the Iranian “precision project” aimed at manufacturing precision guided missiles in Syria and Lebanon for Hezbollah to be used against Israel in a future war.

Joint U.S.-Israeli preparation for different escalation scenarios in the region concerning Iran, Syria, Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza.

The Washington Post wrote on May 15th that “Pentagon and intelligence officials said three distinct Iranian actions have triggered alarms: information suggesting an Iranian threat against U.S. diplomatic facilities in the Iraqi cities of Baghdad and Irbil, U.S. concerns that Iran may be preparing to mount rocket or missile launchers on small ships in the Persian Gulf, and a directive from Khamenei to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and regular Iranian military units that some U.S. officials have interpreted as a potential threat to U.S. military and diplomatic personnel”. Lies About Iran Killing US Troops in Iraq Are a Ploy to Justify War

One of the many myths that have been used to justify the push for war with Iran led by National Security Adviser John Bolton and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is that Tehran is responsible for the killing of more than 600 U.S. troops during the Iraq War.

Special Representative for Iran Brian Hook, whose job is to round up international support for the Trump administration’s campaign of “maximum pressure” on Iran, presented the charge at a State Department press briefing on April 2. “I can announce today, based on declassified US military reports,” Hook said, “that Iran is responsible for the deaths of 608 American service members. This accounts for 17 percent of all deaths of US personnel in Iraq from 2003 to 2011.”

Navy Commander Sean Robertson followed up with an email to media outlets pushing that same line. When this writer asked Robertson for further clarification of the origins of that figure, however, he acknowledged that the Pentagon doesn’t have any study, documentation, or data to provide journalists that would support such a figure.

In fact, the myth that Tehran is responsible for killing over 600 US troops in the Iraq War is merely a new variant of a propaganda line that former Vice President Dick Cheney used to attempt to justify a war against Iran more than a decade ago. Reviewing the history of that earlier effort is necessary to understand why the new myth is a palpable lie.

I immediately thought of how MSFT Excel calculates the date when I saw the B2 aircraft number. Excel counts the days after January 1, 1900 to come up with the date in a cell ( https://support.office.com/en-GB/article/date-function-e36c0c8c-4104-49da-ab83-82328b832349 )

21066 in Excel date is Tuesday, September 3, 1957. 2.10.1966 could be another significant date if there is deeper meaning to this aircraft number. Flip it upside down and we have 9901S(5?). If this is a date we cannot rule out how the rest of the world writes the date as DDMMYY so this could mean 2nd Oct 1966. On military forms I remember always getting fucked up because the admin bubbas wanted YYMMDD so if we're looking at the aircraft number upside down it would be 99 for the year 01 for the month and 2 for the day. Seems like there should be another digit if that were true.

All of this seems like a stretch to me but wanted to share the thought process in case it leads you all to something.

These 1.8 million Palestinian citizens are the remnants of the native population expelled from their lands in 1948 during the creation of Israel – what Palestinians call their Nakba, or catastrophe.

‘Conquest’ of the park

Afula’s mayor, Avi Elkabetz, has done little to hide his motivation in closing the park to non-residents.

He won a local election late last year on a platform that he would stop what he termed the "conquest of the park" by Palestinian citizens and has urged Afula’s residents to "proudly hoist Israeli flags throughout the park and play music in Hebrew".

Department of Justice Enables Direct Tribal Access to FBI National Sex Offender Registry

Direct Access to FBI CJIS’s National Sex Offender Registry Helps Tribal Governments and Law Enforcement Track and Identify Sex Offenders

The U.S. Department of Justice announced today a new tool giving tribal governments the ability to directly input data and gain access to the FBI’s National Sex Offender Registry (NSOR) using the Tribe and Territory Sex Offender Registry System (TTSORS). The system connection will be available to all tribal governments already participating in the Tribal Access Program (TAP), which allows information sharing between tribal and federal government criminal information systems.

TTSORS is a no-cost registry system provided by the Justice Department’s Office of Sex Offender Sentencing, Monitoring, Apprehending, Registering, and Tracking (SMART). The Department’s Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) developed the connections which allows tribes to seamlessly submit new and updated sex offender information directly from TTSORS to NSOR.

“The Department of Justice is dedicated to addressing the public safety crisis in American Indian and Alaska Native communities, including the high rates of sexual violence against women and children,” said Attorney General William P. Barr. “Providing a direct connection to the FBI National Sex Offender Registry gives tribal law enforcement the information they need to investigate and prevent these heinous offenses.”

American Indian and Alaska Native people suffer persistently high rates of victimization, including from sexual assault. According to a 2016 study funded by the National Institute of Justice, more than four in five American Indian and Alaska Native adults have experienced some form of violence in their lifetime, and more than half of all American Indian and Alaska Native women have experienced violence from an intimate partner. In June, the department extended a deadline for tribes to apply for up to $167 million in federal funds through August 16, 2019, to support crime victims throughout Indian country.

“The direct connection between the National Sex Offender Registry and Tribe and Territory Sex Offender Registry System provides increased resources for identifying, tracking, and sharing information about persons convicted of committing these crimes,” said Gwendena L. Gatewood, Chairwoman of the White Mountain Apache Tribe of the Fort Apache Indian Reservation. “It will also allow for further improvements in providing a safer community for all involved to integrate tribal law, custom, tradition and practices in a comprehensive fashion consistent with holding offenders accountable.”

“Standing Rock has always had a priority of ensuring public safety,” said Mike Faith, Chairman of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. “Technological advances to our systems ensure that our SORNA staff are able to input offender information and get back in the field while ensuring compliance is maintained.”

The Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act, Title I of the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006, requires that, when an offender initially registers or updates his or her information in a jurisdiction, that the state, tribe, territory or District of Columbia must submit immediately the information to NSOR as well as other jurisdictions where the offender has to register. TTSORS is a fully functioning registry system that complies with SORNA requirements. TTSORS was created to assist the Indian tribes that have elected to implement SORNA.

Since 2015, the SMART Office, OCIO, the FBI, the Office of Tribal Justice, Community Oriented Policing Services and the Office for Victims of Crime, have worked together to develop the Tribal Access Program to provide tribes direct access to national crime information systems for both criminal and non-criminal justice purposes. This includes the ability to directly enter NSOR data and enhance the capacity to collect and submit fingerprints and palm prints to the FBI. TAP has been instrumental in assisting tribes with ongoing implementation of SORNA. In fiscal year 2019, the department expanded TAP to 25 more tribes, for a total of 72 participating tribes.

A Republican running for governor in Mississippi denied a female reporter's request to accompany him on a campaign trip unless she brought along a male colleague, insisting Wednesday that he did so because he "just wanted to keep things professional."

The reporter, Larrison Campbell, wrote in Mississippi Today on Tuesday that the paper had asked to shadow each gubernatorial candidate seeking the GOP nomination "in an attempt to better inform readers." While two of the candidates agreed, state Rep. Robert Foster declined, explaining on a Mississippi talk radio show Wednesday that having a female reporter with him could create "an awkward situation."

Campbell, who said that she was the first to report on Foster's plans to enter the gubernatorial race in November 2018, told CNN by phone Wednesday that she was in "disbelief" when Foster's campaign manager, Colton Robinson, told her she wouldn't be allowed to cover the campaign by herself.

"There really wasn't any wiggle room, there was no getting around it," she said. "I think it was like disbelief. I don't think it was until I hung up that I got upset by it."

Foster told SuperTalk Mississippi radio Wednesday, "It's a ride-along request for a 16-hour day that we were going to be on the road. The other opponents of mine got a male reporter to ride along with them, which is a little bit different situation.

"In our case it was a female reporter asking to ride along, and my campaign director is in and out and gone sometimes – we have to divide and conquer – and there was just going to be a lot of opportunities where it would've been an awkward situation I didn't want to put myself in."

Foster also defended his decision on Twitter Wednesday, citing his Christian faith as the reason he denied access to Campbell.

"As I anticipated, the liberal left lost their minds over the fact I choose not to be alone with another woman," he said. "They can't believe, that even in 2019, someone still values their relationship with their wife and upholds their Christian Faith."

Campbell said Wednesday it was uncomfortable for her, as a journalist, to be thrust into a story she was covering but, after Campell spoke with her editors, the paper decided to explain why Foster would get less coverage in Mississippi Today than the other GOP candidates.

"My job is to let the readers know what is happening in Mississippi," she said. "I felt this was a service to our readers."

Campbell added: "If it makes people angry, if it makes people fall in love with him, that's besides the point. I sort of see this as a part of the public service of the job."

Campbell also warned against the assumption that her denied access to Foster's campaign is a "Mississippi story," positing Wednesday that women everywhere are "sexualized" as they try to do their jobs. (see pic)

According to reports, the federal government has found the billionaire pharma executive, along with four of his co-defendants, guilty of illegally paying off doctors to prescribe opioid pharmaceuticals such as fentanyl, which directly contributed to the current opioid epidemic.

In declaring Kapoor guilty of this crime, federal prosecutors sent a clear message that drug companies will no longer be getting away with conspiring to illicitly distribute dangerous and highly addictive opioids that are harming and killing Americans.

“Today’s convictions mark the first successful prosecution of top pharmaceutical executives for crimes related to the illicit marketing and prescribing of opioids,” indicated United States Attorney Andrew E. Lelling in a statement.

“Just as we would street-level drug dealers, we will hold pharmaceutical executives responsible for fueling the opioid epidemic by recklessly and illegally distributing these drugs, especially while conspiring to commit racketeering along the way.”

Because it’s rare for the federal government to pursue corporate executives like this using criminal charges, the case is said to set a new precedent for justice, particularly as it pertains to the activities of Big Pharma.

“This is a landmark decision that vindicated the public’s interest in staunching the flow of opioids into our homes and streets,” Lelling went on to say.

According to Brad Bailey, a criminal defense attorney from Boston and a former federal prosecutor who’s been following the case, the 10-week trial and the way it proceeded is incredibly rare.

“That’s always unusual. That’s always an attention grabber,” Bailey indicated about the decision by the Feds to go after Kapoor and his co-defendants with racketeering charges.

“The big issue is the use of racketeering charges, which had been originally designed to go after the Mafia,” he added, noting that the federal government has basically determined that what took place at Insys was organized crime.

Plot

Sternwood mentions his other, older daughter Vivian is in a loveless marriage with a man named Rusty Regan, who has disappeared. On Marlowe's way out, Vivian wonders if he was hired to find Regan, but Marlowe will not say.

Marlowe investigates Geiger's bookstore and meets Agnes, the clerk. He determines the store is a pornography lending library. He follows Geiger home, stakes out his house, and sees Carmen Sternwood enter. Later, he hears a scream followed by gunshots and two cars speeding away. He rushes in to find Geiger dead and Carmen drugged and naked, in front of an empty camera. He takes her home but when he returns, Geiger's body is gone. He quickly leaves. The next day, the police call him and let him know the Sternwoods' car was found driven off a pier, with their chauffeur dead inside. It appears that he was hit on the head before the car entered the water. The police also ask if Marlowe is looking for Regan.

Marlowe stakes out the bookstore and sees its inventory being moved to Joe Brody's home. Vivian comes to his office and says Carmen is being blackmailed with the nude photos from the previous night. She also mentions gambling at the casino of Eddie Mars and volunteers that Eddie's wife, Mona, ran off with Rusty. Marlowe revisits Geiger's house and finds Carmen trying to get in. They look for the photos, but she plays dumb about the night before. Eddie Mars suddenly enters; he says he is Geiger's landlord and is looking for him. Mars demands to know why Marlowe is there; Marlowe takes no notice and states he is no threat to Mars.

If you remember the plot of the Sound of Music, the Von Trapp family escaped over the Alps rather than submit to the Nazis. Kitty wasn’t so lucky. Her family chose to stay in her native Austria. She was 10 years old, but bright and aware. And she was watching.

“We elected him by a landslide – 98 percent of the vote,” she recalls.

She wasn’t old enough to vote in 1938 – approaching her 11th birthday. But she remembers.
