Alabama this week joins a growing list of states that’s been snubbed from accessing major pornography website PornHub after signing legislation requiring more scrutiny for adult websites.
Alabama’s House Bill 164, passed during the 2024 Alabama Legislative Session and signed into law by Gov. Kay Ivey, requires age verification for Alabamians to access pornography websites and applications. It’s going into effect Oct. 1.
Other states including Mississippi, Texas, Utah and Louisiana have passed similar laws in the past few years.
Instead of implementing a process to comply with these laws, PornHub has been blocking access to the site from residents in those states.
Instead of seeing the site’s usual very not-suitable-for-work front page, visitors to the site who live in Alabama currently see a blank black page and the following text
