CBS News has reportedly seized confidential personal files from its former reporter Catherine Herridge who had been investigating the infamous Hunter Biden laptop scandal.

Now, staffers say that they are concerned about the network having taken possession of Herridge's personal files, claiming that they might include the identities of confidential sources and materials, and conversations with lawyers.

CBS staffers told the New York Post that they are concerned about the network being subpoenaed to disclose the former reporter's sources, which they say could threaten freedom of the press.

"They never seize documents [when you’re let go]," a source told the outlet. "They want to see what damaging documents she has."

"This is a company that only plays checkers. They don’t play chess," the source added. "They don’t understand the ramifications of their actions."

Another source said that after Herridge had been fired from CBS News, the network boxed up her personal belongings but kept her notes and files. The network reportedly told the reporter that they would debate whether or not they would be returned to her.

Herridge is currently in legal trouble and might face contempt charges for failing to comply with US District Judge Christopher Cooper's order to clarify how she knew of a federal probe involving a Chinese American running a graduate program in Virginia. She worked on this investigation in 2017 when she was employed by Fox News.

Herridge had faced opposition from superiors regarding her coverage of Hunter Biden and had also clashed with CBS News President Ingrid-Ciprian Matthews. The source said it's possible that the network thinks Herridge has information in her personal files that could lead to a wrongful termination lawsuit.

Jonathan Turley, a former CBS legal analyst, first reported about Herridge's documents being seized in a report for The Hill and said: "She was pursuing stories that were unwelcomed by the Biden White House and many Democratic powerhouses, including the Hur report on Joe Biden’s diminished mental capacity, the Biden corruption scandal and the Hunter Biden laptop."

A CBS News spokesperson told the New York Post that they have plans to return the files to Herridge.

"We have respected her request to not go through the files, and out of our concern for confidential sources, the office she occupied has remained secure since her departure," the spokesperson said. "We are prepared to pack up the rest of her files immediately on her behalf – with her representative present as she requested."

OPP operation leads to largest gun bust in province history

A joint investigation between Ontario Provincial Police and U.S. authorities has led to the largest gun bust in the province’s history.

Handguns and assault-style rifles were among the 274 illegal firearms seized as part of Project Saxom, according to CP24.

The operation was part of an OPP-led investigation in cooperation with Dual Approach, a U.S. Homeland Security Investigation probe launched out of their field office in Buffalo, NY.

U.S. investigators seized 168 guns heading for Ontario and the OPP seized an additional 106 guns that had already made it into the province.

Five separate criminal networks were ultimately identified by the investigation.

The investigation was launched in the U.S. last fall to impede a “transnational criminal organization” operating out of the U.S. and Canada, confirmed Homeland Security Special Agent Matthew Scarpino, who led the operation out of Buffalo. Continue…

In an article published in the TMU magazine, the university claims it received 1,200 suggestions for a new mascot.

Judge rules London truck attack that killed Muslim family an act of terrorism

An Ontario judge has ruled that a man’s slaughter on a Muslim family in London was an act of terrorism, marking the first time a court has made a decision of this kind in a case of white nationalism.

Nathanial Veltman, 23, killed four people and injured a nine-year-old boy after running them over in a truck in June 2021. The family were dressed in traditional Pakistani attire at the time.

“I find that the offenders’ actions constitute terrorist activity,” said Justice Renee Pomerance during the sentencing hearing on Thursday in London.

The ruling won’t affect Veltman’s sentence for first-degree murder as it comes with an automatic 25 -year life-sentence without parole, but the ruling will still set a standard for Canadian terrorism laws in relation to white nationalism.

“The events of June 6, 2021, have caused many to question their safety when going about their business in London and beyond,” said Pomerance.

Veltman was convicted of four counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder last fall. He was sentenced to an additional concurrent life sentence for the attempted murder. Continue…

Canada’s terrorist threat assessment agency is warning that the Israel-Hamas war could motivate extremists to attack crowd events and religious and community centres within Canada.

Following the Oct. 7 Hamas attack on Israel, the Integrated Terrorist Assessment Centre issued a number of intelligence briefs that warned the government about potential attacks at cultural centres, protests, diplomatic posts “or other symbols of Israeli or Palestinian interests in Canada.”

The agency is made up of members of Canada’s security and intelligence community, designated to assess potential threats in Canada.

The agency suggested that such an attack would most likely be carried out by a “radicalized lone actor,” according to briefings obtained by Global News.

“It is possible that ideologically and religiously motivated violent extremists and lone actors may be triggered by events and mobilize to violence and conduct a mass casualty attack at large gatherings,” wrote the agency in a brief.

A youth was arrested last December by Ottawa police and charged with plotting a terrorist attack against the Jewish community. More charges were filed against the suspect last Thursday including conspiracy to commit murder at the direction of a terrorist group. The suspect cannot be named because he is a minor.

Additional charges were laid against him for knowingly facilitating terrorist activity “by making available and exchanging instructional material and propaganda.” Continue…

An Alberta town has passed a bylaw allowing only government flags and banning any non-standard crosswalks – removing the town’s current pride-coloured crosswalk.

The ballot question presented to Westlock’s residents had three parts.

“Only Federal, Provincial, and Municipal flags may be flown on flagpoles on Town of Westlock municipal property. All crosswalks in the Town of Westlock must be the standard white striped pattern between two parallel white lines. The existing rainbow coloured crosswalk in the Town of Westlock be removed.”

The final vote results, tallied Thursday night, were close, with 663 people voting yes and 639 people voting no.

Following a proposal from a local secondary school’s gay-straight alliance, Westlock councillors unanimously approved the town’s first rainbow crosswalk last May.

In September 2023, Westlock received a petition advocating for a Crosswalk and Flagpole Bylaw.

The petition was led by Westlock resident Stephanie Bakker and asked council to make a bylaw “ensuring that crosswalks and flags on public property remain neutral.”

According to Alberta’s Municipal Government Act, a petition must be signed by at least 10% of a municipality’s population to go before council. Westlock, a town about an hour north of Edmonton, has a population of approximately 5,000 people. Continue…

A Freedom Convoy organizer still on trial for his role in the 2022 trucker protest is suing the federal government for freezing demonstrators’ bank accounts after a court finding that the Emergencies Act was unconstitutional and unreasonable.

It was under the invocation of the Emergencies Act that the Trudeau government justified freezing the bank accounts of those opposing COVID mandates in the three-week-long Ottawa protest.

Chris Barber, a Saskatchewan trucker who led the convoy across Canada to Ottawa, argues in his lawsuit that his Charter rights were violated.

Barber filed a statement of claim last week in a Court of King’s Bench in Saskatoon, alleging that the unprecedented decision by the federal government to invoke the act was an abuse of power.

Barber owns and operates a trucking company in southwestern Saskatchewan. The lawsuit claims that his frozen accounts resulted in missed payments as well as defaults on loans, damaging Barber’s credit score, which “marred indefinitely” his business for future funding applications.

“This disruption deprived (Barber and his wife) of the ability to conduct basic financial transactions and live normal lives, leading to severe inconvenience, hardship, embarrassment, exclusion from modern society, and damaged personal and business relationships,” reads the claim, which also names Barber’s wife and his trucking business as plaintiffs. “Disinformation about me was amplified by Iranian regime cyber accounts,” he said. “I was physically monitored and threatened. Our campaign volunteers were afraid for thee safety of their families in Iran.”

Shahrooz said he wanted “additional time to fight back.”

The union representing 29,000 provincial health-care professionals has failed its members after just $5,000 was awarded to some employees placed on unpaid leave for months over the Covid-19 vaccine, says prominent Alberta lawyers.

A binding arbitration agreement between Alberta Health Services (AHS) and the Health Science Association of Alberta agreed to the one-time, non-pensionable payment to employees who were placed on unpaid leave for up to a year.

Alberta litigator Leighton Grey of Grey Wowk Spencer LLP said the union failed to protect members’ rights amid the vaccine mandate, and now, to secure adequate compensation.

“It’s not a great deal, actually. It’s kind of a pittance compared to what was done to these people,” Grey told True North. “When I talk to these workers…they feel betrayed by the employer.”

He also said employees can’t sue Alberta Health Services because, legally, the union is their representative.

Unvaccinated healthcare workers were placed on unpaid leave in December 2021. They were allowed to return to work in January 2022 on the condition that they pay for regular testing at their own expense. Vaccinated employees were supplied with testing kits.

One former family counsellor told True North her request for a religious exemption from the COVID vaccine was ignored. When she went to the Health Science Association of Alberta with others asking for help, the union recommended that concerned employees simply get the shot. Continue…

According to information obtained on February 21 by Blacklock’s Reporter, the Liberal government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, is abandoning legislation to regulate “hate speech” on the internet following feedback from Canadians that they consider the measure unconstitutional.

“The government heard from Canadians and stakeholders that while false and misleading information online can carry significant consequences, creating legislation and policies that restrict or otherwise limit speech based on the veracity of information would undermine freedom of expression to an unacceptable degree,” Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc wrote the Commons ethics committee.

The committee had previously recommended legislation to “hold online platforms accountable for publishing false or misleading information”; however, LeBlanc replied that internet literacy programs were sufficient to regulate Canadians internet use.

“Legislation is not the only tool in the government’s toolbox to combat false or misleading information,” he said.

Additionally, most of 9,218 petitioners to the Canadian Heritage Department condemned the proposed legislation as unconstitutional.

Likewise, according to Privy Council research in 2023, most Canadians opposed the measure, saying that “it was of critical importance for Canadians to be able to leave comments and have their voices heard regarding initiatives and policies important to them.” Continue…

In January, Federal Court Justice Richard Mosley ruled that while the protests against the federal government's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic "reflected an unacceptable breakdown of public order," the invocation of the Emergencies Act "does not bear the hallmarks of reasonableness — justification, transparency and intelligibility."

Ultimately, there "was no national emergency justifying the invocation of the Emergencies Act," he wrote.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government invoked the Emergencies Act on Feb. 14, 2022, after thousands of protesters angry with the Liberal government's response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including vaccine requirements, gridlocked downtown Ottawa for nearly a month and blocked border points elsewhere across the country.

“I’ve never been insulted so bad in my life as that offer. It’s disgusting,” Dan Hartman told The Epoch Times. “It’s insulting and it’s disrespectful to my son’s memory. They’re saying my son’s life wasn’t worth anything.”

Following the death of Sean, his son, Mr. Hartman sued the government saying he has evidence it was the COVID-19 vaccine that caused the teen’s death.

He said the government is seeking to have the case struck out of court, and that government lawyers told his legal team they wouldn’t seek a court order to have him pay for legal expenses if he dropped the case.

“The government gave us an offer last week. If I would agree to drop the lawsuit, they won’t come after me for court costs.”

He said he cried after receiving the offer, then the tears turned to anger.

“I couldn’t believe they were insulting my family like this, insulting Sean’s memory,” he said.

“All I ever wanted from the beginning was the truth—before I even had lawyers or a lawsuit, two years ago when I started this. I just wanted them to admit Sean died from the vaccine. That’s it—and change his cause of death.”

The Epoch Times reached out to Health Canada but was told they do not comment on matters that are before the courts.

Mr. Hartman said his lawyer believes the courts will allow the case to proceed to trial.

Students at the University of Waterloo discovered that they had been subjected to facial recognition technology without their consent after a vending machine malfunctioned earlier this month.

A snack dispenser showed an error message that read: Invenda.Vending.FacialRecognition.App.exe on its screen.

Students were not asked permission to have their faces scanned, nor were they made aware of the facial recognition technology prior to using the machine, which was monitoring their movements and purchases.

“This is completely unacceptable!” former Privacy Commissioner of Ontario, Ann Cavoukian, told True North.

“Who authorized the use of facial recognition in a vending machine, clearly without the consent of the individuals whose faces were being captured? The impact of this unauthorized access to such sensitive personal data is extensive, not only to privacy but extending to identity theft, etc.”

Cavoukian is now the executive director of Global Privacy & Security by Design Centre.

The company that produces the machines, Invenda, claims that its “demographic detection software” is compliant with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation laws and that the company is open about its surveillance.

Invenda claims that the technology is used to determine the age and gender of customers.

A Canadian Arts student from Calgary flies to Vancouver twice a week to attend his classes at the University of British Columbia.

Originally posting his story to Reddit, Tim Chen said that on Tuesday and Thursday, he flies to Vancouver in the morning and returns to Calgary at night.

“I found there’s absolutely saving on rent since I don’t need to pay rent in Calgary (live with my parents) except just casually paying for utilities, and it’s much cheaper than renting a 1b for 2k or more in Vancouver,” Chen wrote in his Reddit post.

Chen saves more than double what he would pay to live in Vancouver while studying at UBC. He spends about $150 per round-trip flight twice a week, equating to $1,200 a month, compared to the $2,700 he would have to pay for rent.

“I thought, why don’t I just stay at Calgary and then just fly here, it’s like a one-hour flight, that’s like the same as taking a bus,” said Chen during an interview with CTV.

The Liberal government and the NDP will introduce the first phase of their new national pharmacare program, however the province of Alberta has chosen to opt out of the program.

The pharmacare program will include coverage of birth control and diabetes medication and was a major part of the supply-and-confidence pact that the NDP shares with the Liberals.

Final details of the legislation have yet to be ironed out before the scheduled deadline of March 1. Still, Alberta’s Health Minister Adriana LaGrange confirmed that the province plans to opt out, in an email to Global News on Sunday.

Alberta will instead aim to obtain a full per capita share of the funding because the province was not consulted on the plan “and there are limitations in the initial analysis and assumptions, including start-up investment and administrative costs to implement a cost-sharing model, that were not taken into consideration that add costs for the provinces,” wrote a spokesperson for LaGrange’s office in the email.

Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland promised said that the pharmacare plan won’t risk Canada’s fiscal standing and that it can be implemented without going over the government’s spending budget, pledged last fall. Continue…

Three more members of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's cabinet have been forced to unblock Rebel News on X, formerly Twitter, following a previous court ruling.

Last year, Rebel News was victorious in a lawsuit against Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault after he blocked Rebel boss Ezra Levant on the social media platform. Though the issue may seem trivial, official social media accounts are part of how the government disseminates information to the public.

Because of this official capacity, the Federal Court ordered Guilbeault to unblock Rebel News and ordered him to pay $20,000.

But ministers Ya'ara Saks, Marci Ien and Karina Gould apparently felt they were above this verdict, which prompted a similar legal demand in response.

Now, the trio of ministers have been ordered to unblock Rebel News and pay $1,750.

“The Liberal government argued that these Twitter accounts were personal, not government accounts,” Levant said on X. “That’s laughable given they have that grey ‘government’ check mark from Twitter,” he added.

“But if they really are personal, why are taxpayers footing the bill here?”

Despite the Liberals' insistence these accounts were personal, the funds, like the larger amount paid by Guilbeault, were footed by Canadian taxpayers. The judgement curtailed his ability – and that of the Trump Organization – to do business in New York or apply for loans from financial institutions registered with the state.

Trump has now asked an intermediate-level state appellate court to overturn Justice Arthur Engoron’s Feb. 16 ruling in a civil fraud lawsuit brought in 2022 by New York Attorney General Letitia James, Reuters reports.

Engoron ordered Trump to pay $355 million in penalties, but with interest the total has grown to nearly $454 million.

An HIV positive, trans-identifying biological male has claimed he is "breastfeeding" his baby with the assistance of Canadian medical clinics.

Murray Pearson, 52, began transitioning in 2022, and has been taking a number of drugs to develop "boobs" he alleges are capable of lactating.

According to Reduxx, Pearson, who goes by "Margie Fancypants" online, first shared the image of him with his then 9-month-old baby at the Goldfarb Breastfeeding Clinic in Montreal on Reddit in November, declaring December 7 "Milk Day."

"I cannot wait to connect through feeding," Pearson told the other members of r/TransLater, a forum for males who transitioned later in life. "This is a wish I have had for decades."

He went on to explain that learning he could "nurse" his baby "lit a fire" in him," and that he has gone from having "lean pectoral muscle in March to full B-cops now and growing fast."

"I am humbled by my staggering privilege in my accessibility to medical expertise," Pearson continued. "I have five physicians in three clinics in two world class hospitals helping me."

As Reduxx reports, Pearson explained that "two endocrinologists, Newman and Goldfarb, created a protocol to induce lactation in adoptive mothers" that "works for trans women as well."

"It works best when breast growth is mature," he added, "but I am taking domperidone while my primary breast growth is underway."

Three months before announcing that he was on a mission to "breastfeed" his baby, Pearson revealed that he was HIV positive. He acknowledged that while sexual transmission was "impossible" since his condition had been "continuously controlled for 18.5 years," transmission via milk "IS possible if viral load becomes detectable."

He vowed to test monthly instead of semiannually in order to mitigate the risk.

Pearson, a former men's rights activist, said he first came to believe he was a woman after trying on feminine clothes at a second-hand store. He began transitioning a short time later after "two decades of stealth resistance."

The event was held on June 13, 2023 at Rideau Cottage in Ottawa. The one-day event cost taxpayers $11,651, the Canadian Taxpayers Federation has revealed.

IPA and blonde ale craft beer was sourced from the Ten12 and Nita Biju brewing companies. Sauvignon blanc and cabernet sauvignon wine was purchased from Chateau des Charmes. Food was ordered from North & Navy, Town/Citizen, Si Senior and the Merry Dairy.

Cost totals were $1,320 for booze, $4,841 for food, $1,315 for staff and $4,175 for sanitation.

According to a report from the Hill Times, food included cacio e pepe pasta made fresh with a giant wheel of parmesan cheese, salted caramel and hibiscus passionfruit ice cream, tinga de pollo tostadas, vegetarian pastor tacos, fresh ship sliders and tuna tartar.

A labour arbitrator has ruled against Fanshawe College’s application of its COVID-19 vaccination policy towards a fully remote worker, Andy Wing.

Fanshawe College’s vaccine mandate overruled for fully remote instructor

The dispute arose when Fanshawe College sought to enforce its COVID mandate against Wing, who had been working remotely and had no plans to return to campus or get vaccinated.

Wing was put on unpaid leave from January 3, 2022, to March 7, 2022 for non-compliance with his employer’s policy.

In his challenge against Fanshawe College, Wing was represented by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) Local 110.

Arbitrator Larry Steinberg ruled on Friday that “the college has not provided sufficiently cogent evidence that its interests in providing education to its students was outweighed in this case by the grievor’s (Wing’s) interest in his bodily integrity.”

Fanshawe College declined to comment on the decision instead of issuing an apology towards Wing.

A remedy towards Wing is yet to be determined between Fanshawe College and OPSEU Local 110.

The arbitrator’s decision also noted a peculiar distinction made by Fanshawe in December 2021, allowing fully online students to declare they would not visit campus, a flexibility not extended to Wing initially.

This ruling does not challenge the entirety of Fanshawe’s vaccination policy but rather addresses the specific circumstances of Wing’s employment.

The Ontario government under Conservative Premier Doug Ford had mandated vaccination policies for all post-secondary institutions in August 2021, leading to Fanshawe announcing its policy a month later. Continue…

Confidential university documents leaked to True North reveal troubling times within Wilfrid Laurier University’s Faculty of Social Work, characterized by the Indigenous faculty members and the black dean accusing each other of racism.

Hogarth currently chairs the Canadian Military Colleges Review Board, a position to which she was appointed by Defense Minister Bill Blair in December 2023.

21.5 million Canadians to have insurance coverage jeopardized by pharmacare: research

Implementing a universal single-payer drug insurance plan could compromise the quality of coverage for at least 21.5 million Canadians, revealed a new study from the Montreal Economic Institute.

This comes as the Liberals are expected to reveal their pharmacare bill which was a key promise Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made to NDP leader Jagmeet Singh as part of their confidence-and-supply agreement.

Private insurance plans cover a broader range of medications than provincial government public insurance, researchers found. Between 2018 and 2021, private plans reimbursed 51% more unique medications than public plans.

In Quebec, the province with the longest list of drugs covered by a public insurance plan, private plans cover 59.6% more medications than the public option.

Even if pharmacare adopted the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec’s list, it would reduce the number of insured drugs for many Canadians. Canada’s four most populated provinces (Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, and Alberta) have more extensive private coverage than the public plan offers.

Approximately 25,000,000 Canadians have private drug insurance coverage—based on 2020 data—about 65% of Canada’s population. Of this number, 21.5 million lived in the four most populated provinces.

“This means that up to 21.5 million Canadians would experience a reduction in the quality of their drug coverage with the adoption of pharmacare,” said Emmanuelle B. Faubert, the author of the research.

Pharmacare would likely prohibit purchasing complementary insurance that provides additional coverage for non- or partially-covered drugs.

However, if an insurance plan no longer covers certain drugs, pharmaceutical companies will likely stop distributing them in Canada, revealed Faubert. Continue…

Toronto shootings have spiked 140% compared to 2023

Shootings in Canada’s largest city have already increased by 140% this year, when compared to the same time period in 2023, according to data from Toronto Police.

The latest data comes as a 16-year-old boy at a North York bus stop was gunned down and only 24 hours after the shooting, a 39-year-old man was fatally shot three times at the same intersection of Jane Street and Driftwood Avenue.

The 16-year-old remains in critical condition.

Both victims were innocent bystanders.

Toronto police Supt. Andy Singh told CP24 that they are monitoring the increase.

“We had a 10-year low based on our efforts to specifically be in this community, officers on foot, connecting with the community, creating spaces that make the community feel safe and we’ll continue to do that,” said Singh.

Police increased community patrolling in response to the heightened safety risk posed to residents after two shootings.

Plant-based diets appear more common among women and those who pursued higher education, reads Mitigation Behaviours. They also "correlate with biospheric values, having a strong willingness to mitigate climate change and believing one’s personal actions can have a positive impact,” adds the questionnaire.

Canada has become a go-to country for organized auto theft, with the Port of Montreal serving as a key hub for exporting stolen vehicles.

A lack of staff, resources, and space for customs officers coupled with a spike in organized auto theft has created a perfect storm at the Port of Montreal.

As reported by Blacklock's Reporter, the president of the Customs and Immigration Union Mark Weber recently told MPs that customs officers can only seize six stolen vehicles at a time due to a lack of parking near the Port.

He also noted that the Port currently only has one X-ray machine, which it was forced to borrow from Windsor, Ont. after its only scanner was no longer able to operate. Montreal and its port have become known as a hotspot for auto theft and the exportation of stolen vehicles.

Speaking about how space is an issue for officials — in addition to staffing and resources — Weber said, "The facility in which we do the examinations has six parking spots. Once we find six stolen vehicles we sometimes have to wait days for somebody to come and take the vehicles away before we can inspect anymore.”

"With the officers working we are looking at examining a maximum of about four containers a day which could potentially hold eight cars," he added.

Legislators are demanding more records relating to the company's work on another COVID-19 era app rolled out by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government, the now-retired COVID Alert app.

Records reveal GC Strategies was paid $1.4 million in December 2020 for “software development professional services” on the app, Blacklock's Reporter notes.

“This was another app developed during the pandemic,” said Bloc Québécois MP Julie Vignola, who wondered how GC Strategies, which bills itself a consulting company, could “get in on these contracts.”

“Who was behind all of this?” Vignola asked the government operations committee. You must understand that this is only a very partial list; I have said that many other things are stupid as well. I stand by all of these posts and I will not apologise for my monotony. Stupidity is an obnoxious, frustrating and yet very constant and obtrusive feature of the systems that rule us. I emphasise this quality because I think the accent of much dissident commentary is too much on the malicious, authoritarian and often evil nature of government in the West. Don’t misunderstand me. The powers that be are very bad too, but it’s important not to lose sight of the fact that their collective actions and statements are often just astoundingly dumb. Probably never in the history of humanity has stupidity been so abundant, and so apparently ineradicable, as it is now.

I make these remarks because my dalliances with the Pandemic Agreement have inspired me to spend the better part of the day reading about One Health, which is a topic of concern in this quarter of the internet. And yes, I am going to say what you already knew I was going to say: One Health is very stupid. A shortage of 90,000 doctors, nurses and other front line health care workers has caused a “health worker crisis” in Canada.

According to a Health Canada memo published February 26 by Blacklock’s Reporter, last year, Canada was short 89,995 doctors, nurses and other front line health care workers, which is double the rate from 2020 before COVID vaccine mandates were imposed.

“Shortages have increased over the last few years across most health occupations,” said the 2023 memo. “In fact health occupations are the only ones to report a year over year rise in job vacancies in the second quarter of 2023.”

According to the memo, nurses in particular saw an increase in vacancy leading up to and following the COVID “pandemic” as Canada is short 29,655 registered nurses and 13,560 licensed practical nurses.

Zoom Video Communications, the company that rose to fame during the early days of the pandemic, ended fiscal 2024 on a strong note, reporting results for its fourth fiscal quarter ended January 31 that beat analyst expectations on the top and bottom line. Adjusted earnings per share were up 16 percent year-over-year while total revenue and enterprise revenue increased 3 and 5 percent, respectively. That’s still a far cry from the growth figures Zoom posted during the pandemic, when the company saw its revenue grow manifold in a matter of months. The end of working-from-home requirements and subsequent return to offices as well as stiff competition from Microsoft Teams, Cisco’s Webex and Salesforce’s Slack have brought the former pandemic high-flyer back to earth.

However, as Statista's Felx Richter details below, Zoom isn’t the only pandemic winner struggling to maintain its momentum in the post-pandemic world. Other companies that soared under the special circumstances created by Covid-19 have also come crashing down over the past two years, as normal life gradually returned. Home fitness company Peloton and DIY marketplace Etsy, which profited from a large volume of mask sales on its platform during the pandemic, are two such examples, along with vaccine maker Moderna and DocuSign, a company that allows companies to manage agreements electronically. Indiana lawmakers propose a law banning certain land ownership by China

Purchases near military bases or national guard armories would be barred

24 states have passed similar laws including Alabama, Idaho and Virginia

Indiana legislators are considering a bill to ban certain ownership of farmland by China and other adversaries, following similar moves in dozens of other states.

Earlier this month, Indiana's state House unanimously approved a bill to prohibit any citizen of, or entity connected with, a 'foreign adversary' from buying any agricultural land in Indiana after July 1.

This week a Senate committee approved the bill, adding language that prohibits purchases of any land, other than residential leases, within 50 miles of a military base or 10 miles of an armory or maintenance facility.

It comes after Indiana's farmers and others raised concerns that Chinese land ownership in the state could pose a national security threat.

'This might be the most important bill we have in regards to securing all of the state of Indiana,' said Republican state Sen. Jean Leising, who sits on the Senate's Agriculture Committee, according to WTHR-TV. Continue…

IMA (Reuters) -Peru declared a health emergency across most of the country on Monday as a heat wave and heavy rains have led to a spike in dengue fever cases.

The South American nation's death toll due to the virus has risen to 32 so far this year, Health Minister Cesar Vasquez said on Monday.
