"The alleged sexual battery was reported to have occurred when the victim was between the ages of 11 and 14," said Nashville police department spokesperson Don Aaron in a statement to BuzzFeed News.

"As a result of the investigation, the allegations of sexual battery were sustained, but it was determined that the statute of limitations had tolled, barring prosecution. The victim was age 18 when she first disclosed the allegations to non-law enforcement and said at that time she did not want the matter reported to the Tennessee Department of Children's Services or the police."

She also said there was no church coverup.

After the shootings, police will conduct another investigation. If Audrey Hale was molested by a church elder, will the church fully cooperate? Or, as is so common in religous sexual abuse, will Covenant Presbyterian slap a Band-Aid on it and let the rot fester? The usual excuse is that hey, everyone prayed and the victim forgave the abuser. Happy ending!

Two new special prosecutors were appointed to Alec Baldwin's fatal "Rust" movie shooting case Wednesday.

New Mexico First Judicial District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies announced Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis will serve as "special prosecutors."

"Morrissey's and Lewis' extensive experience and trial expertise will allow the state to pursue justice for Halyna Hutchins and ensure that in New Mexico everyone is held accountable under the law," Heather Brewer, spokesperson, First New Mexico Judicial District Attorney, said in a statement.

Andrea Reeb, the special prosecutor previously assigned to the case, stepped down on March 14.

In addition, Carmack-Altwies will step aside from prosecuting the case to "focus on the broader public safety needs in New Mexico's First Judicial District."

"Carmack-Altwies will continue her record of prosecuting drunken drivers, collaborating with local law enforcement, increasing diversion efforts and securing convictions against the most dangerous and prolific offenders," Brewer said.

Carmack-Altwies added, "My responsibility to the people of the First Judicial District is greater than any one case, which is why I have chosen to appoint a special prosecutor in the 'Rust' case. Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis will unflinchingly pursue justice in the death of Halyna Hutchins on behalf of the people of First Judicial District."

Australia condemns Myanmar military junta disbanding political parties ahead of election

Australia has said it is "seriously concerned about the further narrowing of political space in Myanmar" after Aung San Suu Kyi's political party and 39 others were dissolved by the military junta.

The military junta is preparing to hold elections to solidify its rule

Myanmar's military, also called the Tatmadaw, announced that 40 parties were automatically disbanded for failing to sign up under the new Political Party Registration law requirements by Tuesday's deadline.

That included Ms Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy (NLD) party, which swept to a decisive victory in 2020 just months prior to the military takeover.

"Many parties who previously participated in the political process in Myanmar, including the National League for Democracy, are no longer registered," a Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) statement said.

"Any political process in Myanmar that excludes participation by a broad range of stakeholders will not lead to a genuinely representative outcome, and risks further violence and instability.

"We urge the regime to ensure all stakeholders can participate in Myanmar's democratic future, and that all voices can be heard."

The South-East Asian nation has been in the grip of a humanitarian crisis since the military seized power in a coup in February 2021.

More than 3,100 have been killed, more than 20,000 have been arrested, and more than 1 million people have been displaced.

The junta also detained Australian economist Sean Turnell, an advisor to Ms Suu Kyi, for 650 days in prison, accusing him of violating the Official Secrets Act.

He was convicted in a closed court but pardoned and released in November last year, but the junta revoked his amnesty after he was outspoken about the dire situation in the country under the regime.

Australia imposed its first economic sanctions since the takeover on the second anniversary of the coup this year.

The coup sparked dozens of resistance groups opposed to military rule, and junta leader Min Aung Hlaing in a rare speech said the military would not let up in their crackdown.

Nashville is a city infused by religion, music and history, so when a tragedy like the school shooting at The Covenant School March 25 happens there, connections ripple across well-known names and places.

And in this case, also across some unknown history that makes things complicated to comprehend.

The Covenant School is affiliated with Covenant Presbyterian Church, a Presbyterian Church in America congregation situated in the tony south side of Nashville — just down the road from Bluebird Café, one of the city’s best-known live-music venues.

The Covenant School is a small, private Christian school, enrolling about 200 students in preschool through sixth grade. Tuition is about $16,000 a year — more expensive than a year of college at the University of Tennessee. The school was founded in 2001.

Covenant Church and its denomination represent the more conservative side of Presbyterian life in America today. The PCA was formed in the 1970s as a breakaway group from the better-known Presbyterian Church (USA), mainly over the ordination of women, which the PCA opposes.

Nashville — to the chagrin of some city leaders — is the namesake of a document important to some conservative evangelicals who embrace a theology known as complementarianism. This theology teaches that God created males and females for distinct roles in church and home, including allowing only men to be pastors. These beliefs are embodied in The Nashville Statement, orchestrated by a group called the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood, which has strong ties to Southern Baptist Convention leadership but also adopted by the PCA.

The Nashville statement and PCA doctrine also are against LGBTQ identity and practice. In 2020, the PCA adopted a report on gender and sexuality that speaks of “the sinfulness of homosexual and transgender desire as well as conduct.”

The Covenant Church website (now disabled) explains: “Because many other such churches no longer believe nor teach some of the basic truths of historic Christianity, we joyfully affirm our unity with those who believe in certain fundamentals of the Christian faith.”

Conflict has dogged Covenant Church in the past. In 2016, the church fired its founding pastor, Jim Bachmann, after 25 years of service. The congregational conflict became a matter of concern to the denomination itself, which resulted in a church trial.

The reasons for the dispute did not appear to include any kind of moral failure or financial mismanagement but instead generalized leadership differences.

Bachmann’s successor as pastor, Chad Scruggs, lost his daughter, Hallie Scruggs, in the school shooting, CBS News reported.

It was Bachmann who also started the The Covenant School on the congregation’s site on Redbud Hill, part of the land where the Battle of Nashville played out in 1864 — a decisive battle in the U.S. Civil War. Later much of that land would be owned by singer Amy Grant’s great-grandfather, A.M. Burton, a wealthy Church of Christ layman and insurance executive.

While Grant recently made headlines for hosting a same-sex wedding for her niece on the family’s farm in nearby Franklin, Tenn., the land now occupied by Covenant Presbyterian Church and The Covenant School will be used for no such purpose.

The strict gender and sexuality theology of the church and school may have played some role in the experience of the shooter, whose parents had rejected the 28-year-old’s assertion of being both gay and transgender.

The Guardian newspaper reported: “Nashville’s chief of police, John Drake, told NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt that the shooter had planned to attack several different places, saying a manifesto belonging to the suspect ‘indicates that there was going to be shootings at multiple locations, and the school was one of them.’ Drake said investigators believed the shooting stemmed from ‘some resentment’ the suspect harbored ‘for having to go to that school’ as a younger person.

What that “resentment” might be has not been explained.

Forbes reported: “Writings law enforcement obtained from the shooter showed the alleged attack was ‘calculated and planned,’ but (the shooter) did not have any specific targets of victims, and police found ‘detailed’ maps planning the shooting as well as additional firearms when they searched (the shooter’s) house.”

Former Covenant School headmaster Bill Campbell told NBC News the shooter had attended the school in third and fourth grade, in 2005 and 2006.

While most news reports are highlighting some kind of significant mental illness for which the shooter was seeking medical help, the transgender identity component — apart from any mental illness — has been perplexing to those who study mass shootings. The Covenant murders are unusual because the target was a private school, not a public school, and because the shooter was not born male.

In this mix of confusion, ABC-7 News in Nashville reported the leader of a transgender youth education organization took to social media a day after the shooting suggesting religious schools like Covenant need to be regulated.

Eli Erlick is a transgender activist and co-founder of Trans Student Educational Resources who claimed The Covenant School is a “right-wing institution” in which the shooter and other students were “abused.”

As evidence of this “abuse,” Erlick pointed to a 2014 blog written by Oklahoma Baptist pastor Wade Burleson, who detailed how a leading layman in Covenant Presbyterian Church — the man who designed the Covenant School logo with the Latin phrase Veritas Christo et Ecclesia (“Truth for Christ and the Church”) — was facing persecution from church leaders, whom he accused of covering up sexual abuse of minors by a deacon in the church.

That alleged abuse happened in the early to mid-2000s, which would correspond with the time this week’s 28-year-old shooter was involved in the school and perhaps the church. No direct link has been stated between this alleged abuse and the shooter. Whether the shooter attended the church as well as the school is not known.

What is known is that Pastor Bachmann and other church leaders were accused of mishandling the knowledge of this alleged child molester, who because of his position reportedly had free reign at the church and the school. And it is also public record that the church engaged in a long-running dispute with the church leader who sounded an alarm about the abuse, a man named Austin Davis, who eventually was barred from attending the church. In a twisted irony, church leaders portrayed Davis as a “possible shooter” and a threat to the congregation and the pastors.”

But his reputation was ruined after he attempted to attend church as he had done for 18 years, Burleson wrote: “He was accosted by men with guns, separated from his wife and children, and threatened to be thrown in jail if he ever set foot on the property again, even though the Nashville police were never called to the church property. The actions were taken by a ‘private’ security team. The entire experience was humiliating.”

According to Burleson, it took another two years for church leaders to acknowledge the truth of the child molestation charges and to excommunicate the accused deacon.

All this would come to have a substantial influence on the Southern Baptist Convention, too.

Burleson explained:“In the summer of 2007, when Covenant leadership became aware of the allegations of molestation against one of their church officers, I stepped to the microphone at the Southern Baptist Convention and made a motion that: ‘A database be developed containing the names of all Southern Baptist ministers who have been credibly accused of, personally confessed to, or legally been convicted of sexual harassment or abuse, and that such a database be accessible to Southern Baptist churches.’

“Though I am not a Presbyterian, my motion wasrooted in the knowledge that there is a tendency within religious denominations to ‘conceal and cover’ sexual abuseby church officers and ministers out of concern for the ‘reputation’ of the church,” Burleson said, adding that TIME magazine declared the failure of his motion “one of the Top 10 most underreported stories in the nation” that year.

It would take another 15 years for the SBC to adopt a motion calling for an investigation of mishandled knowledge of sexual abuse and why it was not possible to create a database of known sexual abusers in Southern Baptist churches.

That motion was made and adopted at the Nashville convention center, just 8 miles away from Covenant Presbyterian Church.

Santa Fe District Attorney Stepping Down From Prosecuting Alec Baldwin’s Fatal ‘Rust’ Shooting

The Santa Fe District Attorney who charged Alec Baldwin for the shooting death of Halyna Hutchins has stepped down from the case.

DA Mary Carmack-Altwies is stepping down from the case, her office announced on Wednesday.

This is after the DA’s office last month announced it dropped the gun enhancement charge against Alec Baldwin.

ABC News reported:

Santa Fe District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies is stepping away from prosecuting the fatal on-set “Rust” shooting, her office announced Wednesday.

The move comes after state Rep. Andrea Reeb announced she would be stepping down as special prosecutor in the case as well.

In their place, Carmack-Altwies appointed long-time New Mexico attorneys Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis to serve as special prosecutors in the case over the fatal October 2021 shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, her office said. Actor Alec Baldwin was charged with involuntary manslaughter for Hutchins’ death.

“My responsibility to the people of the First Judicial District is greater than any one case, which is why I have chosen to appoint a special prosecutor in the ‘Rust’ case,” Carmack-Altwies said in a statement. “Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis will unflinchingly pursue justice in the death of Halyna Hutchins on behalf of the people of First Judicial District.”

Baldwin shot and killed 42-year-old Halyna Hutchins and injured 48-year-old Joel Souza on the movie set of ‘Rust’ in Santa Fe, New Mexico in October 2021.

Elon Musk’s Twitter Restricts Conservatives Raising Alarm About ‘Trans Day of Vengeance’

Elon Musk’s Twitter has restricted accounts of prominent conservative politicians, journalists, and activists that are raising awareness about the fact that radical transgender activists called for a “Trans Day of Vengeance” ahead of the mass shooting at a Nashville Christian school, carried out by a woman who identified as transgender.

One of the suspended accounts included Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), who reportedly tweeted an image of a poster advertising the upcoming “Trans Day of Vengeance” event, which is being hosted by the Trans Radical Activist Network.

“My Congressional account was suspended for 7 days for exposing Antifa, who are organizing a call for violence called ‘Trans Day of Vengeance,'” Greene said. “The day after the mass murder of children by a trans shooter.”

Ella Irwin, Twitter’s head of trust and safety, said in a separate tweet that Twitter is automatically removing images of the poster due to fear it could incite violence. The images being removed are those posted by conservatives and others raising awareness about the threat. Elon Musk’s censors had no issues with the original tweets of the poster posted by transgender activists until the new crackdown.

“We had to automatically sweep our platform and remove >5000 tweets /retweets of this poster,” she said. “We do not support tweets that incite violence irrespective of who posts them. ‘Vengeance’ does not imply peaceful protest. Organizing or support for peaceful protests is ok.”

In another tweet, Irwin also insisted that “We have not applied any strikes to anyone. Just restricted the media,” to which Greene responded by saying, “This is a lie.”

Greene is not the only account suspended on Twitter due to raising awareness about what radical transgender activists are planning.

The Federalist CEO Sean Davis was also restricted for allegedly violating Twitter’s rules regarding “violent speech.”

“The cold-blooded mass murder at a Christian school in Nashville by an apparent transgender person came just days before a planned ‘Trans Day of Vengeance’ organized by the Trans Radical Activist Network,” Davis tweeted.

Journalist and author Andy Ngo was also locked out of his Twitter account for reporting about the “Trans Day of Vengeance.”

“hey asshole, the only people your new company is mass suspending today, en masse, are the only ones still defending you,” Stephen L. Miller told the Twitter CEO.

The “Trans Day of Vengeance” poster highlights a rally that is set to be held this weekend in Washington, D.C.

On Saturday, the radical transgender activists will reportedly hold a “Trans Day of Vengeance” demonstration outside of the Supreme Court, where they will complain about the alleged “hate from the world.”

“We need more visibility,” reads the poster, which goes on to urge people to gather in Washington, D.C. to “stop trans genocide.”

The event will take place just days after 28-year-old Audrey Elizabeth Hale — who reportedly believed she was a male — stalked the halls of Covenant School in Nashville, where she killed three children and three adults before she was successfully taken down by authorities.

Video footage of police responding to the mass shooting showed them firing multiple shots at the transgender until she was eventually put down, ending her carnage at Covenant School.

After being asked by reporters if there was “any reason to believe that how she identifies has any motive for targeting the school,” Nashville Police Chief John Drake said, “There is some theory to that,” indicating that transgender propaganda played a role in Hale’s motive.

“We have a manifesto,” Drake revealed. “We have some writings that we’re going over that pertain to this date of the actual incident. We have a map drawn out of how this was all going to take place.”
