This Is Not A Few Bad Signatures, But a 'Systemic Failure' In Voter Verification

Arizona Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake’s lawyer, Kurt Olsen, said that Maricopa County did not have a few bad signatures on mail-in ballots in November’s election, but an entire “systemic failure.”

Wednesday night, the Arizona Supreme Court affirmed most of the trial court’s and the Arizona Court of Appeals’ rulings in favor of Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs and Maricopa County, but did remand one of Lake’s claims — that signature verification laws for mail-in ballots were not followed by the county in 2022 — to the trial court for consideration.

The trial court had ruled in December that Lake had been too late in bringing up her claim that the county was not following proper procedures to ensure the identity of voters. She should have brought that up before the election, according to that decision.

That judge cited the doctrine of laches, which requires plaintiffs to assert rights in a timely manner, or they are barred from legal remedy.

However, in this week’s ruling, the Arizona Supreme Court disagreed. “Contrary to the ruling of the trial court and the Court of Appeals Opinion, this signature verification challenge is to the application of the policies, not to the policies themselves. Therefore, it was erroneous to dismiss this claim under the doctrine of laches because Lake could not have brought this challenge before the election.”

Olsen told FrankSpeech.com host Emerald Robinson Thursday, “The Supreme Court did remand this case back on the issue of signature verification, which is a very, very significant issue.”

“There are literally over 100,000 ballots in question because of invalid signatures that were accepted and tabulated,” he continued.

“This is not a challenge about simply a few bad signatures. … This is about a systemic failure of the entire signature verification process, which is allowing tens of thousands of ballots with signatures that don’t match the record on file. And this is the only security feature for mail-in voting,” Olsen said.

A raging three-alarm blaze destroyed a pickle factory in Paterson, New Jersey on Saturday.

One firefighter was injured battling the blaze that broke out inside the Pickle King factory at 220 Ellison St. shortly after 6 a.m., authorities said.

First-responders encountered a collapsed roof, but no one was in the building at the time of the blaze.

“On the scene for a Three Alarm Fire that has destroyed the Pickle King building,” Mayor Andre Sayegh posted to Instagram.

“Thankfully, our firefighters were able to stop the blaze from spreading to PANTHER Academy. I am very proud of the work of Paterson’s Bravest.”

Employees were last in the building on Friday, News 12 NJ reported.

The Pickle King is close to the Panther Academy public high school and Passaic County Community College.

Neither were impacted by the blaze, Sayegh said.

Sources told News 12 that the business has had past issues with squatters, the outlet said.

It was not immediately clear what started the blaze. Pickle King has provided a variety of pickles for the food industry since 1958, according to yellowpages.com.

“It offers a range of olives, peppers, dressings, sauces, side salads and condiments, andsmoked and marinated fish products,” the site says.

When first-time voter Tykarri Skillon finished studying the list of nine candidates, looking for those who shared his priorities on jobs and affordable housing, he marked his ballot and then was escorted with other voters back to their cells in the Cook County Jail.

The 25-year-old, awaiting trial on a weapons charge, is part of a group not always mentioned in discussions about voting disenfranchisement. People serving sentences for felony convictions lose their right to vote. Detainees awaiting trial or serving misdemeanor sentences do retain that right, but face barriers to exercising it in many parts of the United States.

The Cook County Jail, with more than 5,500 inmates and detainees, is one of the largest such facilities in the nation. It is one of several lockups where voting rights advocates have worked with local election and jail officials to offer voting for those held there. Foreign entertainment companies that left Russia should suffer “the maximum damage,” Dmitry Medvedev has said

“You know what?Find proper pirates and download everything from them,” Medvedev told journalists on Saturday, when asked about how foreign-made content currently unavailable in Russia due to sanctions could be accessed.

“If they left us – Netflix and others – then we’ll just download all of this anduse it for free. I would also just put it everywhere online to deliver the maximum damage. Maximum damage so that they go broke.”

Medvedev, who is currently the deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, said that as a legal professional, he has always had a negative attitude toward piracy and preferred to overpay for content, even when people around him pointed out that it can be easily downloaded online.

“But now I’m treating this in accordance with the ‘you got what you were asking for’ principle. Let them lose money,” he explained.

Nicholas Anthony and Norbert Michel of the Cato Institute mentioned in a recent report, “The case against central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) grows stronger by the day … CBDCs put the future of financial privacy, freedom, and markets at risk, and these bills would provide much needed safeguards against the United States issuing a CBDC. Senator Lee’s bill would establish clear boundaries for not just the Federal Reserve (Fed), but also the Department of the Treasury (Treasury). Time and time again, Fed Chair Jerome Powell and former-Vice Chair Lael Brainard have skirted questions on the Fed’s authority to issue a CBDC. Likewise, the Treasury seems to have taken the lead: on pushing CBDCs forward under the Biden administration. Considering these developments, it’s clear that Senator Lee’s approach is indeed warranted.

“These bills would establish some much-needed checks on the federal government’s efforts to launch a CBDC. The potential consequences of a CBDC are simply too large to be left up to the discretion of unelected bureaucrats at the Fed or the Treasury. It’s a decision that should rest with Congress.”

Iran taunts France over unrest

The Islamic Republic condemned Paris’ “crackdown on peaceful protests”

The Iranian Foreign Ministry has condemned France’s harsh response to pension reform protests, calling on Paris to “talk to its people and listen to their voices.” With violence in their own streets, French officials should avoid “preaching to others,” Tehran said.

“We strongly condemn the crackdown on peaceful protests by the French people,” the ministry tweeted on Friday. “We call on the French government to respect human rights and avoid using force against its people who are pursuing their demands in a peaceful manner.”

France has been rocked by protests since President Emmanuel Macron’s government bypassed parliament last week to pass a controversial pension reform bill that raises the country’s retirement age from 62 to 64. More than a million demonstrators took to the streets across the country on Thursday, and hundreds were arrested in Paris for lighting fires and clashing with riot police.

The Council of Europe condemned the government for using “excessive force” to police the protests, while France’s national Consultative Commission on Human Rights claimed that hundreds of demonstrators were arbitrarily arrested and subjected to extreme “kettling” tactics by police.

Iran was heavily criticized by Western nations – including France – for its handling of anti-government protests late last year. The French Foreign Ministry used near-identical language in October when it declared that “Iran must respect the right to peaceful protest as well as human rights, in particular the rights of women and girls,” and demanded “that this repression end immediately.”

“The French government should talk to its people and listen to their voices,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani tweeted on Friday. Kanaani shared a video of French police clubbing demonstrators in Paris, adding that “this kind of violence” contradicts France’s “sitting on the chair of morality lessons and preaching to others.”

“French protesters are also waiting to see the collective [video clip] of European, Australian and Canadian female ministers in support of French protesting women,” Kanaani continued, referring to a virtual gathering of female ministers organized by Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly in October in which they pledged support to “the incredibly brave women of Iran.”

Iranian authorities arrested an unknown number of people during last year’s protests, although Ayatollah Ali Khamenei granted pardons to more than 22,000 earlier this month. The protests, which broke out following the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in police custody, were fomented by the US and Israel, the Iranian government claimed.

It’s been 30 years since the ATF-FBI siege on the Branch Davidian Compound in Waco, Texas in 1993.

The government siege led to a massacre of 76 people including 25 children.

The deadly assault on David Koresh’s Branch Davidian compound took place from February 28 through April 19, 1993, over suspected weapons violations. The ATF had attempted to raid the compound and a gun battle ensued, leaving four government agents and six Branch Davidians dead. For the next 50 days, the government would use psychological warfare, such as playing the sound of animals being slaughtered, until ultimately the compound was burned to the ground with nearly everyone still inside.

The siege ended with the massacre of 76 people.

On Friday fired FBI agent Peter Strzok posted a veiled death threat against President Trump just hours before his historic rally Saturday in Waco, Texas.

Strzok, who is famous for running an illicit coup on the US president and banging a colleague in the broom closet, posted a photo of the government-led massacre at the religious compound in Waco, Texas.

Ukraine not ready for offensive – Zelensky

Kiev’s troops are suffering from a lack of ammunition, the Ukrainian president has said

Ukraine has not yet accumulated enough resources to stage an offensive, President Vladimir Zelensky has admitted.

In an interview released on Saturday by the Japanese newspaper Yomiuri, Zelensky said that the situation on the frontline “was not good,” explaining that Ukraine was lacking enough ammunition for successful operations.

On the subject of an offensive, the Ukrainian president stated that “we can’t start [it] yet. Without tanks, artillery and [US-supplied rocket launchers] HIMARS, we cannot send our brave soldiers to the front lines.”

“We are waiting for ammunition to arrive from our partners,” he added, claiming thatRussian troops had been firing three times as manyshells as the Ukrainian side. (Kek, what a lie.)

In light of this, he reiterated his calls for Kiev’s Western backers to send more arms and urged them to sign off ondeliveries of fighter jets.

Commenting on a potential dialogue with Russia, Zelensky insisted that “absolutely no conditions have been formed for this,”suggesting that Russian forces would have to leave the territories Ukraine claims as its own first. Moscow has repeatedly said that it is open to talks with Kiev on condition that it recognize the “reality on the ground,” referring to the new status of four former Ukrainian regions as part of Russia.

Speculations about an imminent Ukrainian spring counteroffensive have been swirling in the Western media for several weeks now. Last week, Politico reported that the US expected Kiev to start the offensive in May, with Ukrainian troops attempting to push into Crimea either by crossing the Dnieper River – which was consideredan unlikely option– or moving out from their positions in the north.

Around the same time, the New York Times reported that Western officials were worried that Ukraine’s costly attempts to hold on to the strategic Donbass city of Artyomovsk (known as Bakhmut in Ukraine) could jeopardize the upcoming offensive, given that Kiev’s Western backerswould not be able to replenish its ammunitionstocks any time soon. With this in mind, one Pentagon official cited by the outlet described theanticipated push as a “last-ditch effort.”

On Friday, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who now serves as deputy chairman of the Security Council, said that Moscow is well aware of Ukrainian plans to stage an offensive, noting that Russia’s General Staff is making its own assessments on the matter and planning a response.
