JPMorgan said on Wednesday that though the emails show that “inappropriate personal conversations” took place, they don’t prove that any illegal conduct did and “provide no basis to infer that Staley detected Epstein’s sex-trafficking.”

The bank slammed the USVI suit as providing an “inaccurate and salacious telling of events.” JPMorgan has previously called the claims a “masterclass in deflection,” pointing out that the territory failed to act against Epstein in a law enforcement capacity and instead gave him favorable tax treatment. -Bloomberg

JPMorgan also called racketeering claims by the USVI "impermissibly extraterritorial."

"USVI’s attempt to hold JPMC accountable under USVI law for JPMC’s actions in New York — on the theory that JPMC’s client, Epstein, unilaterally decided to spend time in USVI — disregards the limits of USVI’s legislative jurisdiction," the bank argued, adding that the USVI also failed to establish that Staley's travels to Epstein's island, or his use of work emails, fell within the scope of his employment at the bank.

Staley and Epstein exchanged upwards of 1,200 emails over a period of several years. In 2013, Staley left JPMorgan to become CEO of Barclays, which he left in 2021 following a probe by the UK Financial Conduct Authority into his relationship with Epstein.

Epstein, meanwhile, had around 55 accounts with JPMorgan between 1998 and 2013, which contained hundreds of millions of dollars. At least 20 individuals paid through JPMorgan accounts were "victims of trafficking and sexual assault in Little St James," according to the USVI.

Snow, rain and hail are all expected to intensify Friday.

A rare blizzard warning will be in effect for Los Angeles County mountains from 4 a.m. Friday to 4 p.m. Saturday. National Weather Service forecasters said up to 5 feet of snow could accumulate in the mountains above 4,000 feet, accompanied by wind gusts topping 80 mph that will create "near zero visibility.''

A flood watch will be in effect from Friday morning through Saturday afternoon for Los Angeles County beaches, the coastal region including downtown, the L.A. County mountains, Santa Monica Mountains and the San Fernando, Santa Clarita and San Gabriel valleys.

A flood watch will also be in effect in Orange County, covering inland areas and the Santa Ana Mountains and foothills.

But snow will be the bigger story of the storm, with the low elevation snow level contributing to what could be "the largest amount of 24-48 hour snowfall seen in decades, likely rivaling the 1989 storm, for our Ventura and Los Angeles County mountains,'' according to the NWS.

"Snowfall of this rate and amount could lead to damage to structures and trees with an immense threat of avalanches, especially in the eastern San Gabriel Mountains by Saturday,'' forecasters said.

"Expect whiteout conditions at times within the Blizzard Warning, mainly above 3,500 to 4,500 feet in elevation.

Significant blowing and drifting of snow combined with the whiteout conditions will make driving very difficult to impossible, including for rescue crews.

"The incredible amount of snow combined with the strong wind will lead to extreme avalanche conditions along steeper terrain and at lower elevations than we typically experience in southern California. The most significant threat for avalanches is typically within 24 hours of new snowfall. The heavy snowfall will increase risk of downed trees and power outages and can cause damage to roofs which have shallow slopes.''

A Citizen Patriot Dedicated to restoring FITness to Georgia Elections

Georgia’s Marci McCarthy is Chairman of the DeKalb County GOP and a fierce warrior for election integrity. Her commitment is to never see a repeat of what she witnessed in the general election in 2020.

During the 2020 election, Marci was an election worker in Georgia’s second-most blue county as a member of a bipartisan team adjudicating absentee ballots rejected by tabulating machines. Despite the law passed by the Georgia legislature in 2021 prohibiting local election offices from accepting private funds, DeKalb county officials are now attempting an end-run around the law. Marci describes in this episode her determination to stop the buying of the DeKalb county election system and to force compliance with the Georgia law prohibiting private funding of local election offices.
