Spooks in Silicon Valley: Flow of U.S. intelligence analysts into Big Tech jobs raises alarm

Those who once served to protect the nation are now using their intel smarts to regulate speech in America.

As Congress and the courts delve deeper into federally sanctioned censorship by Big Tech, a troubling revolving door has emerged between the U.S. intelligence community and the Big Tech giants on the front lines of one of the fiercest battles over free speech in modern American history.

A Just the News review of LinkedIn employment histories of senior Big Tech executives found that at least 200 former workers of the Central Intelligence Agency, Federal Bureau of Investigation, National Security Agency, National Security Council and Homeland Security Department have landed Silicon Valley jobs, many within content moderation units regulating supposed "disinformation" and disproportionately throttling news and opinion deviating from approved, left-tilting norms.

These individuals range from Aaron Berman, who spent a decade and a half as a CIA analyst before joining Facebook parent Meta as product policy manager for disinformation, to James Baker, the former FBI general counsel recently fired by Elon Musk as Twitter's chief lawyer over a spat about prior review of "Twitter Files" releases exposing past censorship by the platform. Baker was one of the key FBI figures involved in obtaining a FISA warrant based on the now-debunked Steele dossier to surveil onetime Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.

The spooks-to-Silicon-Valley pipeline has sent an army of federal agents, intel analysts and even psychological operations experts once trained with taxpayer money to fight foreign enemies or capture big criminals into higher-paying private sector jobs where those same skills now target Americans' opinions in the name of fighting "disinformation."

None of the former intel world employees contacted by Just the News returned phone or email requests for comment. But in videos posted online, some acknowledged they are part of a new vanguard of Big Tech censors operating in a world where there is little consensus about what should be done and what is legal.

"There is very little agreement whether we should be leaving more content up or taking more content down," Berman said in a video posted on Meta's site. "With any particular rule or issue that we're looking at where something has come up, where the rules are not 100 percent clear, we're not going to make everybody happy."

Berman, whose LinkedIn biography boasts he used to prepare the presidential daily brief at the CIA, acknowledged there is some discomfort in the power he now wields in his new role in Big Tech to decide the difference between "harmful content" and free speech.

"It's a balance," he said in the video. "I think it should make me uncomfortable, and all of us who do this work."

Some of the federal intel veterans are less inhibited about expressing biases. For example, Nick Rossmann, former CIA analyst and current senior manager of Trust & Safety at Google, overtly supported defeated 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, said Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner should be strangled and declared, "Anti-vaxxers are like Nazis."

Judicial Watch Files Lawsuit for FBI Documents on Big Tech Censorship of Hunter Biden Laptop Story

Judicial Watch announced today that it filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) for records of communications between the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and social media sites regarding foreign influence in elections, as well as the Hunter Biden laptop story (Judicial Watch Inc. v U.S. Department of Justice (No. 1:23-cv-00079)).

Judicial Watch filed the suit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia after the FBI failed to respond fully to an August 28, 2022, FOIA request for:

All alerts, notifications, advisories, foreign threat indicators, or similar records provided by any official or employee of the FBI to any officer or employee of Meta (formerly Facebook), Twitter, or any other social media company regarding the threat of disinformation disseminated by foreign actors related to any U.S. election.

All records of communication between any official or employee of the FBI and any officer or employee of Meta, Twitter, or any other social media company regarding the laptop reportedly used by Hunter Biden, any news media reporting regarding the laptop and/or its contents, and/or the provenance of any information contained in any such reporting.

In October 2020, in the run-up to the presidential election, the New York Post was able to confirm that Hunter Biden’s laptop, which was abandoned at a Delaware computer shop, contained embarrassing and possibly incriminating information about the Biden family. The Post story was censored by Twitter and other social media platforms despite its accuracy. Recent “Twitter files” released by Elon Musk show that FBI pressure on “Russian disinformation” led to the censorship:

San Francisco FBI agent Elvis Chan “[sent] 10 documents to Twitter’s then-Head of Site Integrity, Yoel Roth, through Teleporter, a one-way communications channel from the FBI to Twitter,” the evening before the release of the Post story.

Other “Twitter files” show the FBI pushed Twitter to also censor countless Twitter users who tweeted concerns (and jokes) about election integrity just before the 2020 election.

“The FBI was literally paying Twitter to censor Americans just before the 2020 election!” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “The FBI seems to have interfered in the 2020 election to help Joe Biden by encouraging Big Tech to censor Americans about the Hunter Biden laptop and other debates. And to add to the scandal, they are now covering up their misconduct.”

Through FOIA Judicial Watch is investigating other instances of censorship.

Judicial Watch is suing the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for all records of communications between the Cybersecurity and Information Security Agency (CISA), a division of DHS, and the Election Integrity Partnership (EIP), which was created to flag online election content for censorship and suppression.

In September 2022, Judicial Watch sued the Secretary of State of the State of California for having YouTube censor a Judicial Watch election integrity video.

In May 2022, YouTube censored a Judicial Watch video about Biden corruption and election integrity issues in the 2020 election. The video, titled “Impeach? Biden Corruption Threatens National Security,” was falsely determined to be “election misinformation” and removed by YouTube, and Judicial Watch’s YouTube account was suspended for a week. The video featured an interview of Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. In April 2021, Judicial Watch published documents revealing how California state officials pressured social media companies (Twitter, Facebook, Google (YouTube)) to censor posts about the 2020 election.

CIA helped Israeli Mossad agents escape complicated mission abroad - Pompeo

News revealed in former US secretary of state Mike Pompeo's new book. Israeli intelligence sources deny operation was Iran nuclear archive heist.

Former CIA director and US secretary of state Mike Pompeo, in his new book, Never Give An Inch, reveals that during his term, the CIA rescued Mossad agents in imminent peril at the personal request of then-Mossad director Yossi Cohen.

Israeli intelligence sources repeatedly denied to The Jerusalem Post on Tuesday afternoon that the operation in question was the February 2018 heist of the century - seizing Iran's secret nuclear archive from under its nose near the heart of Tehran - though Pompeo in his book specifically says that the operation was "one of the most significant clandestine operations ever conducted."

These sources also would not specify what other operation could have reached the level of significance as described by Pompeo, but were adamant that Americans were not involved in the 2018 Tehran archive operation.

Describing one of several interactions with then Mossad director Yossi Cohen, but without giving the exact date, Pompeo recounts hearing from an aide, "Mr. Director, [Mossad] Director [Yossi] Cohen needs to speak with you immediately."

"The call from Yossi Cohen, the head of the Mossad, arrived shortly after I had stepped off a plane in a European capital. I turned around and went back onboard, where we had communications equipment suitable for a classified conversation with the leader of Israel's intelligence agency," writes Pompeo.

Next, Pompeo says, "The voice on the other end was calm but serious: 'Mike, we just had a team complete a very important mission, and now I'm having a bit of trouble extracting some of them. Can I get your help?'"

"Whenever Yossi called, I took it. He did the same for me…I was there to help our friends, no questions asked, no matter the risks. My people swung into action across the world. We connected with his team, and within twenty-four hours we had guided them to safe houses. Within the next two days, they were back in their home countries without the world ever knowing that one of the most significant clandestine operations ever conducted was now complete," recounts Pompeo.

Although Pompeo does not name the operation or the time period, his description of "one of the most significant clandestine operations ever conducted" would seem to be spot on with the 2018 Iran nuclear archives operation.

Moreover, Cohen has previously said that while all of the dozens of Mossad agents involved eventually escaped safely, there were situations where their lives were in peril and where Iranian security forces were not far behind catching them in a wild chase.

First Australian university adopts IHRA definition of antisemitism

Jewish community officials in Australia hope the adoption of the IHRA definition of antisemitism will cause a chain reaction, encouraging others in the country to do the same.

The University of Melbourne announced that it adopted the IHRA Working Definition of Antisemitism on Tuesday. In doing so, it has become the first Australian university to adopt the definition. The adoption of the Working Definition is particularly relevant at University of Melbourne given the offensive and discriminatory motions passed by the university’s student union last year.

“The University of Melbourne expects that students, staff, visitors and our partners of all ethnicities, nationalities and faiths feel welcome, safe and that they belong,” according to the university’s website. “To support the safety and inclusion of these members of our community within the University, the University will adopt a definition of Islamophobia, following consultation with Muslim students and staff, and adopt the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance ‘Working Definition of Antisemitism.’”

Jewish organizations in Australia have praised the decision: The Zionist Federation of Australia (ZFA) said it “welcomes the University of Melbourne’s adoption of the IHRA Working Definition of Antisemitism.” ZFA President Jeremy Leibler said, “This move is a strong step forward in the fight against antisemitism on campus and in society as a whole.”

Leibler concluded by stating that “by becoming the first Australian university to adopt the IHRA Working Definition, the University of Melbourne has demonstrated the leadership expected of Australia’s top-ranked university. We call on other universities to follow its lead and adopt the IHRA Working Definition.”

The Australia/Israel & Jewish Affairs Council (AIJAC) also welcomed the decision. AIJAC Executive Director Dr. Colin Rubenstein said, “This is a very welcome and much-needed step towards combating rising antisemitism at university campuses across Australia. The Australian, NSW and Victorian governments have already adopted the definition, which is a non-legally binding tool to identify, educate about and help prevent antisemitism.”

This deal has a huge financial benefit for Theleme, the company co-founded by Sunak. The partnership and increased demand for Moderna’s vaccines has caused the company’s stock price to skyrocket, resulting in a significant profit for Theleme, thanks to its large holding of Moderna shares.

The NYSE also published a list of the 251 companies whose trades it is busting below and above a given LULD band. What is concerning is that many clearly abnormal trades within these bands will stand - for example all XOM trades between $106.90 and $118.15 and all WFC trades between $42.57 and $47.05 will remain -leading to huge losses for anyone who had a market open order (and this is why you DON"T use Market Orders kiddos) and who was stopped out in the opposite direction of the price spike; alternatively it will also mean sizable gains for anyone who was on the other side of the trade. Traders and portfolio managers were stunned by the magnitude of the apparent moves profiled earlier. Wells Fargo appeared to have crashed 15%, Walmart looked like it wiped out $46 billion, and AT&T seemingly swung between a 20% gain and a 21% tumble in a matter of seconds: for many traders these intervals will stand, and mean the difference between huge gains and losses.
