Louisiana Hits BlackRock With Massive Multi-Million Dollar Divestment For ‘Blatantly Anti-Fossil Fuel Policies’

Louisiana State Treasurer John Schroder announced his state will divest funds from the multi-trillion dollar investment firm, BlackRock, due to environmental, social and governance (ESG) policies some claim boycott the oil, gas and coal industries.

“Your blatantly anti-fossil fuel policies would destroy Louisiana’s economy,” Schroder said in a letter sent Wednesday to BlackRock CEO Larry Fink.

To avoid losing state money “to the detriment of our citizens,” the Louisiana Treasury will gradually divest funds from the financial firm, Schroder wrote. The Louisiana Treasury divested $560 million from BlackRock as of Wednesday.

“Once complete, this divestment will reflect $794 million no longer entangled in BlackRock money market funds, mutual funds or exchange-traded funds (ETFs) holdings,” according to the letter.

The letter took direct aim at ESG, an investing practice that penalizes industries believed to be harming the environment, but ESG’s environmental considerations are often made at the expense of other fiduciary duties. Investment firms that use ESG investing practices often refer to “stakeholder capitalism,” as BlackRock does on its website.

“At BlackRock, sustainable investing spans a range of strategies that combine traditional investment approaches with ESG insights to seek to deliver both financial and sustainable outcomes,” the firm’s site states.

Will Held, Executive Director of Consumer’s Research, an organization opposed to ESG, praised the Louisiana state treasurer for divesting from BlackRock.

“As noted in his letter, BlackRock is using the people of Louisiana’s money to advance a destructive agenda that raises costs for consumers in the state and across the country,” Held told the Daily Caller. “The seeds of today’s energy crisis were planted by BlackRock and others in their reckless abandonment of their fiduciary duty to cozy up to radical, woke politicians.”

Derek Kreifels, CEO of the State Financial Officers Foundation, a group that works with state treasurers to enact policies they argue are more in line with American consumer interests, praised Schroder for joining other financial officers in penalizing financial firms which employ ESG investing.

National Guard Gives Service Members COVID-19 Vaccine Instead Of Influenza Shot

The National Guard administered the COVID-19 vaccine to multiple service members who were lined up for the influenza vaccine, including a member who objected to the COVID-19 vaccine on religious grounds, according to officials and one of the members.

The incident took place in late 2021.

During a vaccination clinic where both flu and COVID-19 vaccines were being administered, “three service members were accidently given a COVID vaccine,” Maj. Carl Lamb, a spokesman for the Maine National Guard, told The Epoch Times in an email.

Mathew Bouchard, who is no longer with the Guard, has identified himself as one of the members.

Bouchard said he was ordered to receive an annual flu vaccine and went to the clinic to get that vaccine. He verified his name, date of birth, and part of his social security number, and told officials at the clinic he was there for the flu vaccine. But he was injected with a dose of a messenger RNA COVID-19 vaccine, officials told him.

“‘You know how you went in for the flu shot? Well, that wasn’t a flu shot. That was a COVID-19 vaccine,'” Bouchard told The Epoch Times, recounting the meeting with superiors.

“I think, in my mind, at that point, it was like, I completely didn’t know if I trusted any people in the military,” he added.

Religious Objections

Each branch of the military ordered members to get vaccinated, after Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, a Biden appointee, in August of 2021 directed them to do so.

Under federal law, medical and religious exemptions can be sought. The military has been using form letters with striking similarities to deny many religious exemption requests, federal judges have found, and several branches are blocked from taking punitive action against religious objectors.

Bouchard says he was pursuing a religious exemption due to his Christian faith when he was injected with a vaccine against his will. At the time, he only had several months left before his enlistment was over.

Bouchard believes the vaccine mixup was intentional, noting how the military has aggressively tried to pressure members to get vaccinated. The purpose would be to get members to re-enlist, he thinks.

“I think what they did was they thought soldiers who don’t want it and they accidentally get it are just going to come around and continue their service. So I feel like that was a way to vaccinate people,” Bouchard said.

Radioactive device put oil rig crew in danger

A leading oil services company has been fined £300,000 after losing radioactive material on a North Sea rig for four hours – with potentially devastating consequences for workers on board.

Schlumberger Oilfield UK admitted breaching health and safety legislation following an incident on the Ensco 101 mobile drilling rig in April, 2008.

Last night safety bosses said the incident could have caused serious injury to the 14 workers on board and that anyone who touched the material – even for a few minutes – faced an increased risk of getting cancer.

The company, which has an office in Aberdeen, had been contracted to carry out surveying work as part of a Maersk drilling programme for the Cawdor well, 210 miles east of Dundee, when the incident happened.

The work involved lowering a scientific tool fitted with a radioactive source into the well. The operation is carried out to get a picture and data from the reservoir – with the radiation used to create an x-ray image.

However, the source was not loaded properly during preparations and it lay on the drill floor for around four hours before being spotted, Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard yesterday.

Last night Elaine Taylor, who leads the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal’s Health and Safety Division, said the incident was “wholly avoidable”.

“This incident could have had devastating consequences for the workers involved in the operation. Workers who were in close proximity to the source were placed in danger as a result of failings on a range of issues including risk assessment, the system of work, training and instruction,” she said.

“Failures to properly respect health and safety can have a huge impact on our lives.”

Health and Safety Executive inspector Gillian Rodaks said the consequences of the incident could have been horrific had anyone touched the radioactive material.

She said: “Loss of control of any radioactive source is extremely serious, particularly of the size involved in this incident, and it was only by good fortune that the source was recovered in a relatively short period of time.

“Had someone held it, even just for a few minutes, they would have received a significant radiation dose which may have resulted in injuries to their hands and increased their risk of developing cancer in later life.

“The incident was entirely foreseeable and preventable. The possibility of a worker failing to correctly load a radioactive source from a mobile container into a logging tool had not been identified in the company’s risk assessment – adequate control measures were therefore not in place to control this risk.”

She added: “Too many incidents of this nature occur when users fail to carry out this simple task. This case should serve to remind employers and employees, whether in industry, medicine or research, of the need to be constantly vigilant when working with radioactive sources.”

Jake Molloy, spokesman for the RMT union in Aberdeen, said the incident must act as a “wake-up call” for the industry.

He added: “This is a serious, serious incident and I expect that the majority of people on board had no idea of the dangers they were being exposed to, which is extremely worrying. Lessons must be learned.”

NYC Goes Full Gotham as 'Green Goblin Gang' Rampages on Subway

Athena Thorne. Regular PJ Media readers already know that Democrat-controlled cities and states are increasingly succumbing to unchecked crime and violence. Activists, politicians, and prosecutors with agendas have both suppressed law enforcement and repealed bail laws, essentially giving criminals free rein to terrorize law-abiding citizens. The situation has become so commonplace that it’s barely worth reporting anymore. But a new girl gang in New York City is so over-the-top and bizarre in appearance that it wouldn’t be surprising if the Penguin or Catwoman showed up next.

Dubbed the Green Goblin Gang by New Yorkers, a group of women covered head-to-toe in lime-hued morph suits terrorized people on a 42nd Street subway platform in the early hours of Sunday morning. Videos posted to social media show somewhere between six and 10 women, who appear to be in their teens or twenties, rampaging across the platform and entering a subway train, pausing to beat and rob two 19-year-old women as well as fight among themselves.

Video posted to Reddit on Sunday showed the two victims being assaulted inside a subway car. In the foreground, one goblin hooks her foot into the strap of a victim’s handbag and then spins around the subway pole, flinging the woman across the car. Behind her, another goblin pulls a second victim into a headlock while repeatedly punching her in the face. Other goblins surround the two targets, yelling, punching, and shoving.

On YouTube, SuperFriends NYC posted a second video that was filmed from outside the train and shows the action on the platform. Over a period of nearly five minutes, the goblins cause chaos as they run amok on the platform and inside the subway car. One especially large goblin can be seen attacking the victims, leaving the car, then returning several times to beat them some more. Eventually, some bystanders remembered that they were men and encircled the victims, repelling the verdant villains.

“Yesterday was her birthday,” the mother of one of the victims told the New York Post on Monday. “This is how she spent her 19th birthday. I hope they get what they deserve and then some because it’s disgusting.”

The mom said the two girls were standing on the train platform, chatting and laughing, when the goblins swarmed the platform, bumping into her daughter as they passed. The girls got onto the subway, at which point the gang attacked them.

“[My daughter] was home from college. Now she’s getting chest X-rays and CAT scans,” the girl’s mother said. “She was supposed to be back in school this morning, but [she’s not] because of her injuries from being stomped in the head by 10 grown-ass women.”

Three Out of Four Florida Looters Are Illegal Immigrants? Say What?

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) revealed during a Tuesday press conference that, out of four looters who had been arrested, three of them shouldn’t have been there.

DeSantis defiantly stated after Hurricane Ian devastated his home state that Florida is a Second-Amendment state and that looting will not be tolerated.

“Don’t even think about looting. Don’t even think about taking advantage of people in this vulnerable situation. And so local law enforcement is involved in monitoring that,” he said during a press conference last Friday.

“You can have people you know bringing boats into some of these islands and trying to ransack people’s homes, DeSantis stated. “I can tell you, in the state of Florida, you never know what may be lurking behind somebody’s home, and I would not wanna chance that if I were you, given that we’re a Second Amendment state.”

Fox News reported that the four suspects, Valerie Celeste Salcedo Mena, 26, Omar Mejia Ortiz, 33, Brandon Mauricio Araya, and Steve Eduardo Sanchez Araya, both 20, were arrested for burglary of an unoccupied structure during a state of emergency. All of them posted bond and were released.

“If I could, I would take those three looters, I would drag them out by the collars and I would send them back to where they came from,” DeSantis declared to a round of applause.

Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno wasn’t as nice in his statement.

“I’m not playing,” Marceno warned. “We’re not playing. We have law and order and great residents will be safe and secure. We’ve had arrests on these incidents. You might walk in. You’ll be carried out.”

As reliable as a bowl of prunes — and producing the same results — MSNBC’s favorite race-baiter Joy Reid couldn’t wait to bring race into the picture and attack DeSantis, whom many see as a possible 2024 contender for the White House.
