A few weeks ago, on the plane ride home from South Korea, Pope Francis announced that the Vatican had paved the way for the beatification and eventual sainthood of Salvadoran Archbishop Óscar Romero, who was assassinated in 1980 while saying Mass. For decades, his sainthood had been blocked due to Rome’s reluctance to fully endorse the liberation theology movement, of which Archbishop Romero was an outspoken member.

Lee-(web)The Catholic Church has had a complicated relationship with liberation theology, said Associate Professor of Theology Michael Lee, Ph.D. On the one hand, the movement’s emphasis on economic and social justice for the poor squares with Jesus’ message in the Gospels. On the other hand, its rumored connections to communism and the occasional violent outburst made the Vatican wary.

However, through actions such as sanctioning Archbishop Romero’s beatification, Pope Francis is demonstrating that the Church ought to draw on the Gospels to find a middle ground within even the most controversial issues.

California theft law changed significantly following the coming into force of Proposition 47, which introduced new regulations on the classification of theft related offences.

The law reclassified what theft crimes constitutes a felony or misdemeanor, primarily setting threshold on the monetary value on a stolen item to qualify the offence as a misdemeanor or felony and in some cases, removing the discretionary powers granted prosecutors and juries on when to charge a suspect with misdemeanor or felony for theft crimes.

The California theft law also gives people already serving time or previously served time to apply for resentencing using the new guidelines and having their criminal records changed to reflect the new rules.

13 months following the introduction of the new law, over 200,000 applications had been received for resentencing.

12 dead, 30 injured in Afghanistan mosque blast

An explosion in a mosque in Afghanistan's northern province of Kunduz killed 12 people and wounded 30, according to a source.

A source revealed that the explosion occurred at one of the key mosques in the Imam Sahib District.

According to Afghan broadcaster Tolo News, quoting Kunduz police, the terrorist attack was carried out during Friday prayers at about 1:30 pm (09:00 GMT). According to reports, law enforcement forces are on the site and all the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital.

In April, a mosque attack in Afghanistan's Mazar-i-Sharif killed at least 40 and injured 65 others.

At the time, the Taliban had reported that they arrested an IS militant who was responsible for the attack.

IS also claimed another bomb attack in Kunduz in October that killed 4 and injured 18.

Numerous schools in Kabul also saw deadly attacks in April, according to the city's security department.

NASA Invites Media, Public to View Webb Telescope’s First Images

NASA, in partnership with ESA (European Space Agency) and CSA (Canadian Space Agency), will release the James Webb Space Telescope’s first full-color images and spectroscopic data during a televised broadcast beginning at 10:30 a.m. EDT on Tuesday, July 12, from NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland.

Released one by one, these first images from the world’s largest and most powerful space telescope will demonstrate Webb at its full power, ready to begin its mission to unfold the infrared universe.

Each image will simultaneously be made available on social media as well as on the agency’s website at: nasa.gov/webbfirstimages

Embargoed access to Webb’s first images will not be available prior to their public release.

The following is a list of activities leading up to release (all times Eastern):

-Wednesday, June 29-

Media Day at Webb’s Mission Operations Center

NASA will host a media day at the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) beginning at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29. The event will include a media briefing on the status of Webb’s commissioning as well as overviews of planned science for Webb’s first year of operations and Webb image processing.

On-site attendees can tour Webb’s Mission Operations Control facilities, including the Flight Control Room, and conduct interviews with mission experts.

Media must register their interest in participating by completing this form by 3 p.m. EDT Tuesday, June 21, for in-person, and by 3 p.m. EDT Tuesday, June 28, for virtual.

We find this hypothesis very interesting for it is exactly what we have been proposing since we first publicly discussed our adrenochrome hypothesis in 1952 before the Dementia Praecox Committee of the Scottish Rites Masons in New York.

Turkish official stated that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) will visit Turkey on June 22.

The official added as quoted by AFP that the details of the visit will be announced "over the weekend".

The two countries will sign several agreements during the trip, which is expected to take place in Ankara, but the exact location has yet to be determined, according to the official.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan paid his first high-level visit to the kingdom in years in April since the 2018 killing of Khashoggi in the Kingdom's Istanbul consulate, which caused a refute between the two countries.

At the time, Erodgan said that the visit was "a manifestation of our common will to begin a new era of cooperation as two brotherly countries."

The trip comes as Turkey - facing an economic crisis fuelled by the collapse of its currency and soaring inflation - tries to draw financial support from energy-rich Gulf countries and to maximize its cooperation with the Israeli occupation "on a win-win basis".

France 'no longer receiving any Russian gas via pipelines'

France has not received any natural gas from Russia via pipeline since June 15, according to network operator GRTgaz, after Russian energy giant Gazprom announced this week that it would reduce deliveries to Europe.

The Nord Stream pipeline supply reductions, according to Gazprom, are the result of repair work.

The Russian Deputy Prime Minister revealed, on Thursday, that most of Gazprom's European clients have switched to paying for gas in rubles.

France receives approximately 17% of its gas from Russia via network connections with Germany, which is heavily reliant on Russian supplies.

Supplies had already been cut by 60% since the beginning of the year, sending prices skyrocketing.

GRTgaz, on the other hand, said there was no risk to French supplies at the moment, with reserves at 56 percent capacity, compared to 50 percent in June normally.

Since France adopted packages of sanctions against Russia, it has increased pipeline gas imports from Spain while also increasing purchases of liquefied natural gas (LNG) delivered by ship.

It is worth noting that much of the LNG still comes from Russia, with France being one of the country's largest buyers, according to a report released this week by the Finland-based Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air.

As the Ukraine crisis adds pressure, France has to deal with higher energy prices and inflation, the government already suffered from gas and power price increases not to mention providing financial assistance to low-income households.
