Did Russia empower Iran’s attack on Erbil? - analysis
Iran is counting on the US being afraid of “war” whiel Russia wants to return Ukraine to its “near abroad.” Iran wants to ride the Russian train as far as it can.
Iran’s attack on Erbil using a dozen large ballistic missiles is a major escalation. The missiles targets key areas, such as a new US Consulate being built. They are a message that Iran can do a lot more damage.
Had Iran wanted to, it could have aimed more at the airport runways or targeted civilian areas more heavily. It’s clear Iran was sending a message of its power more than wanting to wreak total havoc.
Iran’s message may be linked to the breakdown in Iran talks. Russia has attempted to use the Iran talks to squeeze more concessions from the US regarding sanctions on Russia. This has angered Iran because Tehran wants sanctions relief, and it now finds itself being waylaid by Russia at the last moment.
But Iran is also looking to Russia for lessons on how to engage with the West. Iran is learning that Russia has used an invasion to demonstrate that there is international impunity to warmongering and attacks.
The large ballistic-missile barrage on Erbil is not the first time Iran used ballistic missiles like this. It also targeted Kurdish dissidents in 2018 in Koya in northern Iraq’s Kurdistan Region. It also used ballistic missiles in 2020 against the US facility at Ain al-Asad air base in response to the US killing of Iran IRGC commander Qasem Soleimani.
This means the use of these missiles is not new or unprecedented. Iran has used missiles and drones to target Saudi Arabia, and it has also sent missile technology to the Houthis in Yemen for use against Saudi Arabia.
So what is new with the March 13, 2022, attack? The large number of missiles and heavy payload on them was likely a warm-up for larger attacks. Iran wants to showcase its precision and abilities with these types of missiles. Tehran also wants to see if the US will respond.
The US has many voices that are part of the chorus who argue against American escalation in Ukraine and don’t want “war” with Iran or Russia. Russia has used these voices as well, because Russia wants impunity to destroy Ukraine.
Russia counts on the West to be afraid of war – particularly the narrative that any confrontation with Russia is “World War III” – even though there is no evidence that Russia can afford conflict with the West. So Russia sells the “war, war” narrative just as Iran sold the “Iran deal or war” narrative in 2015.
Today, Iran wants to ride the “Russian narrative” bandwagon and pretend that if the US “escalates” by retaliating, then there could be war, even though Iran and Russia are the aggressors.
IN THE past, the US has retaliated when pro-Iranian militias killed US or coalition forces in Iraq. The US often retaliated against Iranian-backed militias in Syria. This is the calculus Iran has. It knows the US could retaliate in Syria – a kind of “everything goes” country where the US can operate with more impunity.
The US would be reticent to retaliate in Iraq because it doesn’t want to violate “Iraqi sovereignty.” The US will also be cautious about targeting Iran, even though the missiles came from Iran. Tehran wants to see if the US backs down; then it has a blank check to use more missiles from Iran to target the US, Israel, Saudi Arabia, the Gulf and others.
Iran already has used the Houthis to target the UAE, and it had Iraq-based militias target the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Iran also used drones to target Israel from Iran last March.
So Iran is upping the deadly game, coming out from the shadows and using drones and missiles directly fired from Iran toward other countries in the region. Iran also targeted Saudi Arabia in September 2019. There was no retaliation. So Iran now thinks it may be able to try to drive the US out of Erbil in northern Iraq.
Iran is watching closely what happens in Russia and Ukraine in this regard. While the US has warned Russia of a tough response about the invasion, the White House also puts out messaging about not wanting any conflict with Russia.
Russia now has said it will target supplies of arms going into Ukraine. Russia is testing the West’s resolve. The US may be backing down.
Meanwhile, Iran sees that the US wants the Iran deal back, and Tehran wants to squeeze Washington to come to terms. This means Iran is using the Ukraine crisis but also browbeating Russia regarding the Iran deal and using the threat of more deadly attacks to try to get something from the US and see if the US will back down or retaliate.

We have uncovered more information connecting the Azov Battalion to Neo-Nazis. In an FBI criminal complaint in October 2018, the FBI accused four men in Los Angeles of being neo-nazis. These men were accused of essentially being behind riots in the US.
(Note that the current FBI will never do the same for Antifa or BLM members even though they killed people and caused billions of damage in 2020.)
In the filing (page 8) the FBI notes that RAM members (the group the accused were associated with) the FBI labels the Azoz Battalion, who these guys met with, as Neo-Nazis.

Russia Seeing Humanitarian Crisis of ‘Catastrophic’ Levels as Far-Right Ukrainians Take Hostages
A Russian general pointed to the southeastern Ukrainian port city of Mariupol as a flashpoint, asserting that far-right forces have been firing at those trying to flee the city through humanitarian corridors. Hundreds of thousands of people, including many foreign nationals, are effectively being held hostage, the general stated.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Over 6,900 foreign nationals are being held by Ukrainian far-right forces and are being used as human shields in combat, the head of the Russian National Defense Control Center announced on Saturday.
"More than 6,900 citizens from 16 foreign countries are still being held hostage as a ‘human shield’ by Ukrainian neo-Nazis," reported Russian General Mikhail Mizintsev.
Foreign crews of over 50 foreign-flagged vessels are stranded in Ukrainian seaports, the general added.
Foreign citizens hail from Azerbaijan, Greece, Georgia, Egypt, India, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, the Philippines and Jamaica, among others. Moscow has reported that it is in contact with their respective diplomatic missions.
Mizintsev added that some cities in Ukraine are facing a humanitarian crisis of catastrophic proportions as the situation continues to worsen across the country.
“The humanitarian situation in Ukraine, unfortunately, continues to deteriorate and is of catastrophic proportions in some cities. Nationalist armed forces have been planting bombs in residential neighborhoods, destroying bridges and roads,” the Russian military general stated.
The top military representative also noted that, on March 12, for humanitarian purposes, Russia had provided humanitarian corridors in the direction of Kiev, Chernigov, Sumy, Kharkov and Mariupol, for the eighth time, beginning at 10 am, local time.
Kiev has rejected multiple attempts by the Kremlin to conduct humanitarian evacuations of civilians into Russia from the southeastern Ukrainian port of Mariupol.
"Kiev has not yet authorized any of humanitarian corridors to Russia, once again showing how much the authorities are indifferent to their own people," Mizintsev announced.
The Russian general additionally accused troops in Ukraine of violating humanitarian corridors while "hunting" those who flee eastward. The Ukrainian national security agency - the SBU - has, according to the Russian military general, been tracking phone calls and conducting mass searches and arrests to stop people from traveling to Russia.
"People are being forced to find excuses for seeking protection in Russia," Mizintsev stated.
Some 450 civilians heading toward the bordering Russian region of Kursk, from Ukraine’s Sumy region, had their transports seized and were driven away from the border, according to Mizintsev's report.
Russia as evacuated at least 9,787 people from conflict zones across Ukraine and the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics in the past 24 hours, according to the Kremlin. The total number of evacuees has topped 231,000, which includes 51,996 children.
Moscow, Mizintsev continued, has been contacted by over 2.6 million civilians and foreigners stranded in Ukraine in hopes of leaving the conflict-torn country, with a reported 19,963 pleas for help over the past 24 hours alone.

The Russian Armed Forces are continuing to conduct the special operation in Ukraine, which was ordered by President Vladimir Putin on 24 February following a request from the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR) to protect them.
Russia’s military shot down one Ukrainian Mi-24 (NATO reporting name: Hind) helicopter and three unmanned aerial vehicles, including a Turkish-made Bayraktar drone, the Russian Defence Ministry reported. All four aircraft were downed in one day, the ministry clarified.
Defence Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov stated that Russian forces have destroyed a total of 3,593 military objects in Ukraine over the course of the special military operation, which was launched on 24 February. He clarified that Russian forces have downed 61 Ukrainian helicopters and 126 drones, in addition to 1,159 tanks and other armoured vehicles.
Forces of the Lugansk People's Republic (LPR) have moved deeper into territory controlled by Kiev's forces, seizing Vozgorye, Molodezhnoe, and parts of Popasnaya, Konashenkov said. He added that LPR troops are approaching the city of Severodonetsk.
Russian forces, in turn, seized Novoandreevka and Kirillovka, drawing near to a group of settlements held by Ukrainian forces – Novomayorskoye, Pavlovka, Nikolskoye, Vladimirovka, and Blagodatnoye.
President Vladimir Putin ordered Russian troops to launch a military operation in Ukraine following a request for help from the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR), also citing the need to protect the two republics that have been suffering from constant shelling by Ukrainian forces. Putin described the goals of the special operation as the demilitarisation and de-Nazification of Ukraine.

The Russian leader stressed that Moscow had no plans of occupying Ukrainian territories.

Moscow has a greater safety margin than Brussels, a Russian Foreign Ministry official has said
Moscow is ready for a vigorous standoff in the energy sector if the EU goes ahead with its plans to abandon Russian gas, oil and coal, a high-ranking Foreign Ministry official has said.
“Russia remains a reliable supplier [of energy resources]; a world-class guarantor of energy security,” Nikolay Kobrinets, who heads the Department of European Cooperation, told Interfax on Saturday.
“We value this reputation, but we are ready for a harsh standoff in the energy sector, if necessary,” he said.
The EU “will definitely not benefit” from such confrontation because “we [Russia] have a greater margin of safety and stronger nerves,” insisted the Foreign Ministry official.
Earlier this week, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen complained that the EU was “too dependent on Russian fossil fuels and, in particular, gas.” She promised to present a plan by mid-May that would allow the bloc to cease using Russian fossil fuels by 2027 by optimizing and decarbonizing the energy market.
Von der Leyen’s statement was made amid an ongoing Russian offensive in Ukraine, which was met with widespread international condemnation and draconian sanctions against Moscow. The Kremlin insists that it had to send troops into the neighboring country to “demilitarize” and “denazify” the Kiev government, and to prevent what it called the “genocide” perpetrated by Ukraine against civilians in the breakaway republics of Donetsk and Lugansk.
Kobrinets noted that, according to the European Commission’s own data, the EU gets 45% of gas, 25% of oil and 45% of coal from Russia. “So Brussels has to understand its vulnerability,” he pointed out.
However, judging by the statements coming from the bloc, it intends to achieve energy independence from Russia “at any price,” he said. And this price “will have to be paid not by the top EU bureaucrats, but by ordinary European taxpayers.”
According to Kobrinets, the plans by Brussels “aren’t too rational” from an economic point of view. “There’s already turbulence on the world energy markets, if not panic.”
“It’s unknown how high the prices will skyrocket. But it’s already clear that the EU would have to pay triple prices for gas, oil and electricity, if not more. But it’s their choice,” he said.

In a Twitter video today, pushed by Buzzfeed Journalist Christopher Miller {SEE HERE}, the claim is, “President Zelensky walked to a hospital today to visit wounded Ukrainian soldiers and award them with state honors for their sacrifices.”
However, alert researchers noted {SEE HERE} the woman to Zelenskyy’s left, in the video, is a physician named Inna Derusova. She was reported to have died on February 26th.

As we said from the outset, do not take anything at face value. Question everything that is being presented. The level of western propaganda to support the intents of the U.S./NATO and multinational community are extreme.

Pay attention to how articles are worded for sourcing:

POLITICO – Brent Renaud, a Peabody-winning filmmaker, was reported to have been wearing a New York Times press badge — though the Times said on Sunday that Renaud had not worked for the publication since 2015 and was not in Ukraine on assignment for it.

Immediately, the framework of the story sounded sketchy. The shooting was reported to have happened at a checkpoint at a bridge in Irpin? There are no Russian forces in control in that city, and any checkpoints present at the moment would be commanded by Ukranian forces. Is it another case of mistaken identity?. Manipulated, once again, as a propaganda effort by those trying desperately to gain western sympathy… or is it all just BS?
Again, it is worth continually reminding everyone. Based on how the Western media was deployed in the previous 2014 Ukraine operations, there is a strong likelihood much, if not all of this, is being created to generate Pallywood type sympathies.
The conflict in Ukraine is real.
The Russian military involvement is real.
However, the outcomes within the conflict are something entirely different, and the Ukraine hoax issues relate to their storytelling in order to advance a sympathy narrative surrounding the conflict.
The Ukrainians do themselves no good by manufacturing these fakes.

Yuan deposits replace dollar and euro in Russian banks
The state lender is offering maximum interest rates for Chinese currency deposits to attract customers
With Russia now officially cut off from both the US dollar and the euro, the state-owned VTB Bank has offered its clientele the opportunity to open Chinese yuan savings accounts that yield a maximum interest rate of 8%. The country’s second-biggest bank has been hit by the Western sanctions aimed at the total financial isolation of Russia over its war in Ukraine.
“In light of the rising dollar and euro exchange rates, many clients are showing interest in investing in other currencies, and the yuan is one of the most affordable and promising options for investing funds,” the bank said in a statement.
Existing customers are reportedly able to open deposits remotely on VTB Online with a minimum amount of 100 yuan ($16). At VTB branches, they can deposit a minimum of 500 yuan.
According to the bank, the latest offer will be the most profitable alternative to deposits in other foreign currencies. The annual yield on a three-month deposit is 8% in dollars and 7% in euros.
Meanwhile, a six-month ruble deposit currently offers an annual percentage yield of 21%. VTB said that, over the past week, customers had invested over a trillion rubles ($15 billion) in traditional savings products.
Russian financial institutions have been placed under increasing pressure after Ukraine-related sanctions were introduced. The banks have had to turn to China to start using its UnionPay system for credit cards, after Visa and Mastercard announced the suspension of operations in the country.
“Some Russian banks can’t get access to other currencies, so yuan is probably the best other alternative,” Khoon Goh, head of Asia research at the Australia & New Zealand Banking Group, told Bloomberg.

Larry had joined me for several interviews last year and I believe him to truly be one of the muted voices that the investing community would be better off for considering. He’s the type of voice that gets little coverage in the mainstream media, which, in my opinion, makes him someone worth listening to twice as closely.
Larry was kind enough to allow me to share his thoughts heading into 2022.
Before Russia invaded Ukraine, Larry predicted that a “crack up boom” could be on its way and also offered his take on gold, inflation, monetary policy, bitcoin, fiscal policy, the ongoing supply chain crunch, and much, much more. That analysis is included.
Now, the invasion of Ukraine has helped catalyze a number of his predicted scenarios.
Here are several Fringe Finance excerpts from Larry’s thoughts on the Ukraine invasion and the markets heading into 2022, from prior to the invasion.
Russia Invading Ukraine Has Caused A ‘Monetary Earthquake’
What just happened in the last two weeks is enormously important and misunderstood by many investors.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine and the corresponding Western sanctions and seizure of Russian FX reserves are nothing short of a monetary earthquake. The last comparable event was Nixon's abandonment of the gold standard in 1971.
Russia, with the backing and support of China, just told the world that it is no longer going to sell its oil, gas and wheat for Western currencies which are programmed to debase.
The West in its response just said to all countries around the world: “If you have foreign exchange reserves, held in our system, they are no longer safe if we disagree with your politics.”
It is similar to what the Canadians did when they moved to seize the bank accounts of Canadians who had demonstrated support for the truckers without due process of law.
Both of these political moves are blatant advertisements for what I call "non state controlled money without counterparty risk", like gold and bitcoin. If governments can weaponize their money when they do not like what you are doing, what is the natural defense?
Gold Will Rip Higher Because Of What Russia Is Doing
The US Dollar has been the reserve currency of the world since WW II and the Bretton Woods agreement. This has given the US an enormous advantage and subsidy from the rest of the world because everyone else needs to produce goods and services to obtain dollars and the US can simply produce dollars at no cost by printing them.
Putin is now cast in the role of Charles de Gaulle who complained about the "exorbitant privilege" of the US with its dollar hegemony. As we all know, de Gaulle demanded gold in exchange for France's US dollar FX surpluses and this outflow forced Nixon to close the gold window.
Recall that post this event, gold went from $35 per ounce to $800 per ounce (23x). Russia's move will lead to a similar move in favor of gold. Putin could see that the US fiscal and monetary situation was becoming untenable and he decided to use this to create an existential threat to the US and the world financial system.
He undoubtedly knows that the West has artificially suppressed the price of gold and that is why he has been building his gold reserves steadily for the past 20 years.
Putin just shot "King Dollar" in the head.
We can see it in the financial markets, as the price of everything commodity related is going up relentlessly in dollar terms.
Russia is long commodities, long gold and doesn't need fiat currency. His debt to GDP ratio is low and taxes are low. If the world financial markets collapse on a relative basis, the position of Russia will be improved significantly. This is what I believe he is playing for. If investors do not recognize this they will be caught wrong footed as I believe many are today.
The implications for investors are quite clear. None of us own enough gold, real assets or commodities. Fiat currencies are going to fail spectacularly, and soon, in my opinion.
Before Russia invaded Ukraine, Larry predicted that a “crack up boom” could be on its way and also offered his take on gold, inflation, monetary policy, bitcoin, fiscal policy, the ongoing supply chain crunch, and much, much more.
Now, the invasion of Ukraine has likely catalyzed a number of his scenarios.
A Crack Up Boom Could Be Coming
The bottom line is that the monetary system is exhibiting many of the early characteristics of a crack-up boom.

TLDR: Xi Jinping is now in total control of the entirety of the world's capital markets.
Three things I'll ask you to remember. 1 - I was a professional historical researcher for a very long time for some fairly high-profile authors and documentary makers. 2 - I work in TV telling stories that are meant to be entertaining whilst existing in the realms of possibility. 3 - I've been writing this for a little while, and the situation is VERY fluid, so the most recent elements can date rapidly.
This below is a paranoid gonzo theory-based endgame OpEd based on data from credible sources, and should in no way be taken as financial advice.
China May Have Won World War 3 Without Firing a Shot - Part 1 of 2
If there’s one nation on earth that truly understands the long game, it’s China. I mean truly understands the long game. China has existed as a relatively defined territory with a unified cultural identity for more than 3600 years, a period in which Greece was pre-democratic, Sparta hadn’t yet been founded, and storytellers were conjuring the labours of Heracles and Noah.
Perhaps we can think of a nation not in geopolitical terms, but as a loose collective who share a unity of purpose, a narrative history blended from myth, lore, legend, art, born of ancient, tribal affiliations, epochs of trade and cultural transactions, and brought together by a portmanteau language and urban sprawl, being governed by their own kind who conduct diplomatic relations with foreign governments on their behalf. These loose collectives will either develop to a point where their purpose achieves greater singularity – war, trade, manufacturing – and their identity strengthens, or they will wither or fracture. Winners have strong leaders. Strong leaders have foresight. Foresight breeds dynasties. And dynasties have a tendency to think eternalistically. Obviously, most are wrong, a misapprehension usually ending with a spectacular, megadeath-scenario implosion.
Considered the founders of China, the thing that made the Shang emperors good at ruling was their ability to appear equalitarian without ever having to concern themselves with the fripperies of democracy. They appointed councillors and bureaucrats based on their abilities to administer government effectively, they liked to diversify, they fostered an academic, liberal, free-thinking culture, making astonishing early advances in astronomy and mathematics, whilst wholeheartedly embracing the Sopranos diplomatic philosophy of ‘Come heavy or not at all’. The general consensus was not to fuck with them, and most who ignored the consensus came to a gnarly ending.
Crucially, they permitted freedom of religion and held no misguided belief in the divine right of kings. They knew that empires needed bloodlines, and any weak link in the genetic chain was, in all likelihood, game over. Following a highly productive 500-or-so-years, it was the Shang emperors’ slack religious tolerance and all-consuming concern with external enemies that was their undoing. Right under their noses, the Zhou Estate, loyal citizens for centuries, codified a singular religious doctrine and gave the Shang empire pretty much the first beating they ever took at the Battle of Muye with the purpose of unifying China under the ‘Mandate of Heaven’. But by retaining all of the Shang’s advances, they now had the tools, the smarts, the military hardware and they’d excised the one frail weakness, humanity, by installing new and improved emperors, now with extra heavenly clout. Now with no need for the populace to worry about which faith to follow, it was the Zhou Dynasty’s turn to became the longest reigning in Chinese history.. So far. Thus began the waxing and waning of Chinese dynasties. Warrior, Intellectual, Merchant, Chaos. But the people remained unified.

Becoming Agriphobic
Fast forward about 3500 years, and China was going through one of its waning cycles. Chaos, the final dynastic stage, was hitting all the peak values. To say that the Chinese were being tested would be radically understating the depth of ill-feeling and unrest. The Japanese had not yet morphed into their current wise-but-humble, industrious iteration and were making general Chinese misery their sole mission in life. A military coup in 1911 had toppled the last dynasty, the Qing, and established the Republic of China, but even this new, more egalitarian identity did not break the simmering tension. World War 1 raised the temperature further, seeing Japan move to permanently colonise the mainland, demanding control of everything from the economy to the judiciary. Diplomatic interventions even came from the US and UK – and consider the stunningly shady shit you had to be into to earn that during this period – but the Chinese government was so deeply in debt to Japan that they were forced to agree to many of Japan’s brutal ‘Twenty-One Demands’. The end of what the Chinese call their ‘Century of Humiliation’ was the build-up to a second world war. Many aren’t aware that more than 15 million Chinese died during their war with Japan and what would become World War 2, a shocking number only surpassed by the horror unfolding in the Soviet Union.
A minor skirmish between Chinese and Japanese troops in 1937 sparked a tinderbox fuelled by a nationally felt sense of injustice, penury, and usury. China, however, was entirely unable to fund a war with their neighbours, and by 1938 was near total collapse. With 100 million refugees and the nation racked by famine, the Nationalist and Communist parties set aside their own feuding and met to discuss the fate of China. This conference produced an agreement that few foreign leaders could fathom: There would be no surrender to Japan. Outgunned, ill-equipped, starving, and with no way of knowing that another conflict would distract Japan from their mission of total subjugation, they retreated inland to continue a hit-and-run guerrilla campaign. Think on this; if the Chinese had done the rational thing and surrendered in 1938, the Indian and Soviet theatres would have had another front, with a well-armed, well-trained, well-funded, 600,000-strong aggressor radically changing the dynamic. The war could have been lengthened considerably. Or there could have been a different outcome entirely. Unity of purpose.

The Embiggening of Small Men
Throughout this period, two men were starting to emerge as figureheads from the intractable melee. Deng Xiaoping and Mao Zedong had been leading the Chinese Communist Party and their army during a state of virtually constant civil war with the Nationalist Party. While the Japanese invasion made them temporary and uneasy allies, it also levelled the playing field, exhausting much of the Nationalist leadership’s cash reserves and manpower. Zedong had been busily establishing a staunch following in the Chinese countryside, even forming his own breakaway state, Jiangxi Soviet, as a fuck you to the government and a masthead for his politics. As World War 2 concluded decisively in the Pacific with the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Communists and Nationalists wasted no time in celebrating and returned to their vicious civil war. Proxy funding by the Soviets and the Americans began in earnest, with cash predictably distributed. Manchuria, 1948, and the Nationalists went into the Battle of Liaohsi as odds-on favourites. But fate had other ideas, and shit started to go rapidly downhill for the government. The Communists, more experienced in rural guerrilla tactics, divided then surrounded their opponents, before surgically cutting off their supply lines. Tian’anmen Square, 1949, and now-Chairman Mao proclaimed the war won and a new nation founded; the People’sRepublic of China. The remaining Nationalists and many of their sympathisers fled to Taiwan, declaring the island the (new) Republic of China, and the two states remain, to this day, officially at war.
Chairman Mao attempted various economic jump-starts during his tenure, but he’d perhaps spent too long as a guerrilla, secreted in the undergrowth, knife between teeth, and seemed much more content with plotting wars, vengeance, and purges than with forming any cohesive plans for reform. Following the destructive and expensive stalemate in Korea, Mao’s first attempt, ‘The Great Leap Forward’, was a masterplan to industrialise China; Factories, Not Farms! Unfortunately, the ‘not farms’ part was never adequately replaced, and famine once again began to take hold. One of the Party’s most dependable men, however, remained Deng Xiaoping, and Xiaoping was a considerably safer pair of macroeconomic hands. Just as China was recovering from the 5-year famine, Zedong again went looking for aggravation, sparking off the Cultural Revolution; a violent, paranoid purge that Zedong finally had to send in his own troops to quell. The bloodshed was so frenzied and pervasive that no accurate records exist of the death toll, but most estimates are in the millions. Despite his unfathomably brutal efforts to regain total control of the Communist Party, senior officials were forced to break it to the Great Helmsman that the 10-year revolution had failed to make the country into the shining Communist utopia that he had planned. Entirely foreseeably, famine, poverty, and further economic damage followed.
But by the end of the Revolution, the Chairman was in desperately poor health, his heart failing, and the elite had begun to furtively glance around for a successor. See, there are no hard-and-fast rules to this process in China. Sometimes it’s about securing yourself the most Chairs of the most box-office committees – the Military Commission, the State Council, the Standing Committee, etc – sometimes it’s about building coalitions of Party support, sometimes it’s about assembling the most guys with guns willing to do your bidding. There’s not really even an official title that comes with running China. It’s like playing 3D chess against Deep Blue while really, really high. You’ve gotta be be-yond the top of your game to win.

When Chairman Mao shuffled off this mortal coil, he went with the blood of countless millions on his hands, much of it entirely non-metaphorical. Xiaoping had been a faithful soldier, leading the Party’s forces in countless campaigns, gun in hand. But Zedong had long suspected that Deng’s politics were, if not quite centrist, then centre-left at best. Their complex relationship saw Deng twice purged from the party and imprisoned during the Revolution before rising again to become Secretary-General and Vice Premier under Mao, the man who had ordered his jailing. Mao had tapped up Hua Gofeng to succeed him when he died, but Hua was nothing if not unimaginative. He promised more Mao, the same Mao, a continuation of Mao, even dressing and cutting his hair to look like the boss. He bought himself a short spell in charge by removing the generally disliked radical clique, the ‘Gang of Four’, although this was entirely accidental. Naturally, Hua was then accused of colluding with a new cabal, the inventively titled ‘Little Gang of Four’, who were later charged with failing to combat the original Gang of Four… Yadda, yadda, yadda. The problem with totalitarianism is it can get cyclical. The problem with Hua was he lacked charisma.
Deng Xiaoping, however, was an altogether more astute and interesting player. He outmanoeuvred Hua and was appointed leader, supposedly bringing clear ideas for collectivism and introducing mechanisms that would prevent one-man cults of personality. The landscape was, as usual, not a hard read, especially for an old hand: the people were sick of famine, poverty, purges, and possibly even communism. He very quickly deployed his ‘Boluan Fanzheng’ program, literally translating as ‘eliminate chaos and return to normal’, then set about re-drafting the Chinese Constitution to demote Maoism and elevate economic pragmatism. He embarked on a global charm offensive, in 1979 becoming the first Chinese leader to be invited to the White House by Carter, and while in the US he showed himself to be a world-class charming bastard, sowing further distrust in the Soviets and sealing the deal to get American troops out of Taiwan. He scored tours of Ford and Boeing factories, inspecting the production lines closely. After a lifetime in the killing fields, he was entirely unfazed by an assassination attempt in Texas by a knife-wielding Klansman. Amateur hour. One can only assume that protests by both Maoists and Nationalists drew a wry smile.
Back home, Deng reformed education, reopened schools and founded the ‘863 Program’ to educate China’s brightest in science and technology. But his first big announcement to the world was the ‘opening up’ of China. The government would begin relaxing things, selling off some of the vast state-owned portfolio, eventually welcoming equity investment, private manufacturing, even banking. Perhaps, if records are ever published or witnesses could speak freely, Deng will be viewed as simply another emperor who learned lessons from his predecessor to bolster his personal grip on power. But it was now the 80s, and the rest of the world cared only for cocaine, money, and breakdancing.

Dead Red Redemption
So, after the dull, mechanical early stages, such as agricultural reform, were complete, China was wide open, and there seemed to onlookers to be no organised system of market oversight or regulation, just a naïve assemblage of insular, ageing political idealogues. Suffice to say that gleeful hands were being rubbed vigorously together in the Western financial hubs. This was virgin territory, ripe to be taught the fundamentals of capitalism by slick, hard-nosed Wall Street guys with money to spend and tough lessons to impart. If anybody could knock this backward agrarian economy into shape, it was the City and Wall Street. With Western lead in the economic pencil, the early 80s saw China do three consecutive years of double-digit GDP growth, and in ’88, Ping An Insurance and The China Merchants Bank were founded as joint-stock entities. Corporate finance had arrived. In 1990, Deng reopened the Shanghai Stock Exchange and founded the Shenzhen Exchange. The problem now was archaic State-run industries lagging behind the private sector, garnering unwelcome attention. Government subsidies began to flood in to plug the inefficiencies and pin back inflation.
1997 proved a pivotal year for China for a multitude of reasons: Deng Xiaoping died, Hong Kong was returned to Chinese control, and a huge proportion of the remaining state-run concerns began to be sold off. Shocked military grandees were told by Beijing that even the Army could no longer run businesses. By 2005, cracks had begun to appear. The ardent reformers had grown old and faded and the private investors had cut away the dead wood from former State concerns, leaving hundreds of thousands who could legitimately blame their unemployment on capitalism and foreign actors.. Again. Unaffordable property prices and stark wage inequalities were beginning to foment unrest and, as per the playbook, the leadership was expertly reading the national mood, paying heed to what had gone before.
Heavyweight Champions
2003 saw Hu Jintau get the corner office, and one of Deng’s distinctly conservative successor’s most successful policies was the to import a ‘National Champions’ program. Although late to the game, the boilerplate model got some typically Chinese upgrades. Ostensibly conceived to compete with foreign megacap corporations, the chosen companies would operate for-profit whilst benefiting from bespoke, protectionist benefits that only an autocratic national government could bestow. The less buzzworthy inclusions are outfits like the China Petrochemical Corporation, COFCO, CRRC Group, so on, so forth. Do some digging if you’re interested, but, for the purposes of this OpEd, suffice to say that, as an example, one of the hundreds of companies run by CRRC Group is CRRC itself. They make trains. In fact, they make more trains than anyone else, and they make more money making trains than anyone else. And acronyms you’ve never heard of becoming the biggest and wealthiest in the world at what they do is typical of China’s National Champions. What were formerly monolithic, dusty, State concerns, propped up by handouts and functioning only to keep unemployment low and cough sickly fuck yous to the capitalists, were now titanic international superpowers, owning assets globally that cannot be precisely, or even vaguely estimated, because.. secrets.
In 2012-ish, Hu Jintau tagged in Xi Jinping, an even more stringently conservative leader, and China’s National Champions evolved again. And these you’ll know well, even if you’re unaware of their champion status or the exact nature of the benefits of which they’re in receipt. Alibaba rocketed from $20 billion revenue in 2012 to $717 billion in 2021. Tencent went from $3.3 billion in 2011 to $68 billion in 2021. Huawei leaped from $146 billion in ’09 to $891 billion in ‘20. Because here you have to re-clarify ‘National Champions’. Suddenly it wasn’t the companies or sectors or industries that were chosen – been there, done that, locked it down, lessons learned – rather, it was the people. Whereas previous eras might have seen them purged as intellectuals or right-ists, these young men had travelled, observed, learned, then returned home to seek investment. And the government now had a lot of money to invest. Some were already loyal to the Party, others could be madeloyal with a drop of startup capital. The millionaires began to pile up in China. Then the billionaires.

After Jintau’s first draft, Xi’s polish saw China overtake Japan in 2010 to become the world’s second-largest economy. This year they took top spot for foreign direct investment from the US and are predicted to be the largest economy by 2028. After proving during the Shanghai equities collapse in 2015 that it could deftly and decisively handle a major wobble, the Chinese government seemed to be the gift that kept on giving. Gross inflows during the first quarter of 2021 totalled $590.1 billion, the highest comparable figure since 2010. $551 billion in Yuan bonds are held by foreign institutions and investors, with just 10% of government bonds in foreign hands.

Then a strange thing happened, kind of out of nowhere. The Chinese government began to increase oversight and regulation of a relatively small but highly valuable industry; online tuition. Middle class parents springing for an extra few hours of science lessons a week for their kids seems like an improbable spark for a financial crisis, but much like the skirmish with the Japanese at Marco Polo Bridge in 1937, the government rapidly escalated a minor event into something that could seemingly only end in their ignominious defeat. This time, however, the Chinese government’s war chests were chock full and the leverage was all theirs.
Something many Western fund managers had been speed-reading to the point of wilful blindness in Chinese investment prospectuses for nearly a decade was the Variable Interest Entity structure. Your Chinese company would register a holding company in, say, the Cayman Islands, then enter into a binding contract with its parent company in China. Legit US Depository Share structure. SEC compliant. So far, so good. But like any good scheme, the ROI on these equities and derivatives as China boomed was beyond all reasonable expectations, and, stress test passed, billions more flooded in.
The problem began with Huawei, and this problem boiled down to it being illegal under Chinese law for foreigners to own shares in companies whose business is technology and/or data. Which, when you think about it, is every company. The second problem was that the ‘binding contracts’ that the foreign offshoots selling shares in US and European markets had with their parent companies were legally ‘problematic’ to say the least. A not-very-deep dive into this second problem – which you would think is why banks have lawyers – revealed that foreign owners of Chinese stock had no legal right to attempt to petition or influence the boards of these companies. Simply put; no voting. And whether it be related to environmental issues, child labour, or corporate branding, being a nuisance – or ‘activist’ in today’s parlance – is the God-given right of allshareholders. Worse than this, the investors didn’t even own the underlying shares at all. I’m not talking about historically here. I’m talking about right now. Think on this; if you hold shares in a Chinese company that were purchased on US exchanges, this is on terms that are anathema to the theory of equities markets at the most fundamental level imaginable. Unless you bought on the Shanghai or Shenzhen Exchanges, you have little recourse. And even if you did.. Well, you still have very little recourse. But don’t sell Nio just because of that! The returns might get even more spectacular!

Cryptos jumped after Biden signed the long-awaited (and dreaded) executive order, which came out more pro-crypto than expected. The directive calls on federal agencies to coordinate crypto oversight, but it didn’t lay out any specific regulations.
In fact, policymakers appear to recognize digital assets’ role in monetary innovation. As Coindesk reported: “one part of the order will direct the Treasury Department to create a report on the “future of money,” including how the current financial system might not meet consumer needs.”
Biden’s crypto agenda seems to back the bold claim of Zoltan Pozsar, global head of short-term interest rate strategy at the giant investment bank Credit Suisse that “we are witnessing the birth of Bretton Woods III – a new world (monetary) order.”
And that bitcoin may largely benefit from it.

The reason Huawei were making headlines was lawyers who didn’t work for people trying to sell you financial products started to make the point that, since 2012-ish, Chinese companies have been required by ‘law’ to share any data that the government or security services requested. Sanctions, lobbying, bellowing, and word salad from the then-President of the US somehow translated into a great deal of pause for thought worldwide. The UK government conceded that CGN, the state-owned China General Nuclear Power Company, had happily stepped forward when the British government were courting China for investment a mere 4 years previously, writing cheques to the tune of $4.3 billion dollars for two nuclear power stations in England, and with plans to build more. Not only that, Huawei had positioned itself as the only global player who could deliver the 5G network in the UK. Again, lawyers who neither worked for government nor people who sold financial products began to uncover shadowy articles in Xi’s ‘renegotiations’ with business that could essentially negate any contractual clause in any of these agreements in any of the countries that they had been agreed in. Not only had the Chinese bought access to vast swathes of worldwide data traffic, some posited that pursuing a contractual dispute could end in both telecoms and power blackouts. If you hold the view as a free marketeer that the central role of government is to keep the utilities on and businesses business-ing, then that responsibility had been cheerfully handed to avowed communists with very murky motives. France, Australia, Sweden, and others quickly followed suit in locking out Huawei.
Another very interesting case study during this period is Luckin Coffee. Could there be a finer example of a US corporate success story springing forth from Jinping’s new China? Luckin raised billions selling depository shares on the NASDAQ from their registered office in – you guessed it – the Cayman Islands. Money goes in. More money comes out. Stress test passed with flying colours. Then, without word-one being said in China, Luckin revealed in an SEC filing that they were investigating an alleged $300 million fraud by a former executive involving the inflated reporting of revenue and GP. Shares plunged 80%, wiping $3 billion from the value in the US. Then it turned out that pretty much the entire board of Luckin Coffee and their family members had been pottering around New York securing vast loans against the US valuation. The Chairman alone had margin loans of over HALF A BILLION DOLLARS secured against his shares. He defaulted, and when Goldman Sachs disposed of the collateral shares, they did so at about 10% of their face value. Irrelevant, really, as Luckin’s US lawyers filed for bankruptcy protection shortly afterwards. Credit Suisse’s Singapore outfit was also on the hook for a substantial amount, so these were not babes in the wood that were being suckered in.
But the interesting thing here is the fallout, or really the lack of it. Luckin had taken the money and built a thriving business exclusively in China with a mission statement of toppling Starbucks, rapidly expanding to 4500 outlets. After the ‘scandal’, Luckin shrank just as rapidly.. to about 3900 outlets. They’re launching new products and are now successfully franchising the brand. Their customer base is not less loyal, but more loyal, and they built this base by aggressively giving out coupons for free and heavily discounted beverages to undercut the US giant entirely paid for by US investors. Ordering coffee is done exclusively through the Luckin app, and with news of the US meltdown – and for ‘meltdown’, read massive criminal conspiracy to defraud – app downloads rocketed into the millions. Big data.

Here’s the rub; the Chinese government restricts videogames for children, whilst at the same time making extra online schooling free. Supposed to be up and running last year, the Chinese government is mashing together data like your shopping habits, friends, credit score, criminal record, and fingerprints to generate a user ID, “a single scoring system assessing Chinese citizens’ economic and social reputations, which can affect travel allowance, school choices, work, etc.” The number assigned to you – not your name, you no longer have a name – can then be entered into a national database that will produce a forensically detailed record of your entire existence and how fucked you are because of it. If that doesn’t sound like some cold-blooded Orwellian shit to you, then you, my friend, might be a sociopath and/or a Risk Manager. See, some commentators are saying there is no conspiracy here, that this is simply the cyclical result of overspeculation. The Shanghai stock market had surged 150% in the 12 months leading up to the crash. It was too hot. This was iiiiinevitable. Others are asking why the authorities aren’t doing more to arrest the panic, as, at the time of writing, more than 1000 shares and bonds have been suspended to stem the sell-off and avoid loan defaults calculated against sky-high valuations. Sure, they cut interest rates and spread a little bailout money around, but 80% of investors in China are retail, and they’d been ‘encouraged’ to take out loans to play the markets for years, consumer credit that the government allowed to be cheap and barely regulated. The third camp is asking why on earth the Chinese government would deliberately pull the pin on this and then calmly walk the grenade into a missile silo. Nothing is accidental.
The Rug Pull
Now, my opinion, for whatever it’s worth, does require a little tinfoil work. But here goes: A large cadre of hardened Marxist-Leninist revolutionaries fight tooth-and-nail for a century for the Communist cause, a struggle that sees millions of their comrades die in wars and famines. They are mocked and marginalised for decades after suffering a hundred years of military defeat, national humiliation, invasions, foreign control, and atrocities. Then this most controlling of regimes permits the coronation of an alleged economic reformer, despite twice purging him in the early days for not being radical enough. Not purged and imprisoned for life or purged and murdered like the others, but purged only to be repeatedly re-invited to the top table. His open doors/open arms policy and stunning early returns start to suck money into a centrifuge that is gaining momentum. More foreign money goes in. Even more Chinese money comes out. The institutions are convinced, and the money centrifuge is approaching black hole status. The Chinese government watches, taxes, calculates.
A new helmsman, Xi Jinping, takes the wheel. Over this period, cyberattacks worldwide rise to unprecedented levels and large data breaches are daily occurrences. It’s no secret that the NSA and GCHQ are tracking a large number of these back to well-funded hackers in China. What if China intended this crash all along? What if letting their market fall by 30%, real estate by more, insurance and financial services by still more, is just the beginning, because the short term simply doesn’t matter to them? The losses are predicted, within tolerable ranges, and all part of a plan. Then, when things are at their bleakest, the Chinese government appoints state-run administrators for each and every one of these distressed entities, these smoking, bullet-riddled hulks. They casually amble around the assets with their clipboards, puffing out their cheeks like decorators pricing up a job, then offer dollars – possibly cents – on the square foot for what Evergrande and SOHO paid thousands on the square foot. They shuffle off to make the same offer to manufacturing, automotive, finance. They say that the state rescue offer will be equity based. They’ll own the land again and they’ll own large chunks of companies dragging themselves back to profitability.

What if those same institutions simply can’t leave Hong Kong?
By this point, Western banks are caught in a terminal whirlwind of sell-offs and write-downs, desperately trying to cover their now-worthless positions in China with a fire sale of US and European equities, bonds, and commodities. Better than that, Sotheby’s, Christie’s et al set up in Hong Kong precisely because of the vastly inflated prices that the champions were willing to pay for art, jewellery, and antiques. Sooo, basically anything you’d crack open the safe and tear up the floorboards to sell in an emergency is already gone? And you invested the returns in China? Fuuuck. Everything is deliberate.

Everyone knows that the next epoch belongs to China. The timing is perfect. Europe has been weakened by a generations-long campaign undertaken for them by Russia, their thuggish, money-hungry henchman-in-chief, at a time when the EU was perhaps the only potential candidate to counter the onslaught. The US has failed to learn lessons from 2008, leaving markets fragile and corrupt. COVID has left thousands of institutions scrambling to claw back losses, desperately looking for energetic markets that demonstrate any immunity whatsoever, particularly since Chinese-led calls for cryptocurrency regulation, having long ago banned it from domestic markets, have again made the West wary of DeFi and evaporated huge chunks of crypto mining. There’s simply no point in citing the international treaties, WTO rules, or legal statutes in place to counter this campaign, because those are a collective irrelevance to Jinping. The Leninists had a saying about the West; “They will sell us the rope with which we will hang them.” That’s Jiangxi Soviet. That’s Mao. That’s now.
Still don’t believe me? Okay, look at the ‘other’ coming crunches; semiconductors and lithium. Oil was yesterday’s war, so China has taken a lot of that sweet foreign investment and heavily subsidised the entirety of its semiconductor industry whilst vastly outstripping the competition in mergers & acquisitions deals in the sector. The other three players in Asia, of course, are Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea, and China’s got major beef with all of them. None of these age-old foes can compete forever against massive state subsidisation.
Lithium? China is the world’s third-largest producer and is estimated to be sitting on the fourth-largest reserves. You know what doesn’t need a battery and silicon chips? Toys your grandparents played with.. Fruit.. Not much else. But national footprint be damned. China’s Belt and Road Initiative, an undertaking requiring vision only gifted to cinematic supervillains, is not designed for school buses and commuters, it’s designed to move heavy plant machinery to those neglected parts of the world that have either been abandoned by the US, forgotten by the Europeans, or in whom the Russians have lost interest. Ask an Uzbek or a Tajik, and they’ll tell you that a whole bunch of airstrips and highways have been appearing, almost overnight and seeming to serve no purpose. Many shopkeepers in Mongolia have lithium, not tourism, to thank for foot traffic. Lithium/opium. But these things are not for now. They’re for soon. For later. For whenever the next unlucky explorer triggers the next fatal boobytrap.
See, here is a plan coming together that’s been thousands of years in the making. By learning from hot wars in Europe, the Pacific, Korea, the Middle East, and the Cold War with Russia, Xi now knows exactly what it would take for the West to drop bombs – particularly nuclear-flavoured bombs – and financial and cyber crimes simply don’t pull triggers in London, Brussels, and Washington.

President Biden’s “maskless” State of the Union signifies the near-end of the COVID tyranny we have lived under for the past two years. Fortunately for Congress, the President, and the Federal Reserve, the Ukraine-Russia conflict is replacing COVID as a ready-made excuse for their failures and a justification for expanding their power.
Even before politicians began declaring the end of the pandemic, polls showed that rising prices were the people’s top concern - particularly the increase in gas prices. Since Russia is one of the world’s leading energy producers, sanctions imposed on Russia, as well as Germany’s decision (made under pressure from the US) to shut down the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, provide a convenient excuse for rising gas prices. This is the case even though the US, citing the “instability” in world energy markets created by the Russian-Ukraine conflict, has yet to officially ban imports of Russian oil.
The Federal Reserve has been planning several interest rate increases this year, even though some fear that rate increases could decrease growth and increase unemployment. The Russian crisis allows the Fed to either postpone rate increases or blame Russia for any unemployment that accompanies the rate increases. Either way, the Fed can use the crisis to deflect attention away from its responsibility for our economic problems. As of now, it appears the Fed will go through with at least a modest rate increase this month, but because of the Ukraine crisis, the increase will be smaller than previously expected.
The Ukraine crisis also provides an excuse for Congress to do what Congress does best: increase federal spending. President Biden has requested Congress provide an additional $10 billion in emergency military aid to Ukraine. Congress will likely quickly approve the President’s request. This will not likely be the last time Congress rushes billions of “emergency” money to Ukraine.
It is also certain that lobbyists for the military-industrial-complex are already “explaining” to a very receptive Capitol Hill audience why the Ukraine crisis justifies increasing the military budget to “counter the threats” from Russia, China, and whoever else can serve as a convenient boogeyman. It is unlikely there will be much resistance in Congress to a further increase, even though the US already spends more than the combined defense budgets of the next nine biggest spending countries.
Over the past two years, many leading Internet companies did the government’s bidding by “de-platforming” anyone who expressed skepticism of vaccines or promoted alternative treatments — even when they presented evidence to support their claims. These companies are once again helping the government by de-platforming those who question, or are suspected of questioning, the official narrative regarding Ukraine. Yet these companies’ concerns with “fake news” have not led them to stop people from sharing widely debunked stories supporting the US-backed Ukrainian government.
The lockdown and mandates did more harm than the coronavirus itself. They were based on lies promoted by the government and its allies in the “private” sector.
Yet too many Americans refuse to even question the US government’s claims regarding the Ukraine crisis or question whether Russia is really responsible for our economic problems as opposed to a spendthrift Congress, successive spendthrift Presidents, and an out-of-control Federal Reserve. The only way to stop authoritarians from using crises like these to grow their power is to make enough people understand a simple truth: authoritarian politicians will always lie to the people to protect and increase their own power.

Could the Decision to Ban Russian Oil & Gas Doom the Biden Presidency? (Sputnik oped)
Amid the US banning imports of Russian oil and gas, reports have emerged suggesting that Washington is considering relaxing sanctions against Venezuela in exchange for oil supplies. The White House, however, said there has been no conversation about importing oil from Caracas "at this moment".
Announcing the American ban on Russian oil and gas, US President Joe Biden said that this decision will mark the moment "the American people deal another powerful blow to Putin's war machine".
Yet, according to many energy experts, the American people might have to deal with the harsh consequences of the move first - and so might the Biden administration.
Red Wave in November?
Dr Gal Luft, co-director of the US-based Institute for the Analysis of Global Security, believes that the crackdown on Russian oil could "mark the beginning of the end of the Biden presidency". Since it does not seem like the administration has a clear plan on how to replace the imports from Russia - a country that provides 10 percent of the world's oil supply - the bold decision has caused a spike in fuel prices just before the summer driving season.
The ban is likely to hurt all Americans, who are highly dependent on driving and long commutes - and the pain that awaits them at the gas pump may be reflected in the midterm elections.
"Americans will soon realise that their leaders effectively imposed on them a 'Ukraine tax'", explains Luft. "They will not be happy about it and will do what they always do - punish their leaders in the voting booth. […] With the Democratic Party doing poorly in the pre-midterm election polls, the current crisis could catalyse a Red Wave in November".
He points out that, if Republicans hold a majority in either one or both houses of Congress, Biden will not be able to implement the remainder of his domestic agenda and 2023-2024 will be years of legislative paralysis, possibly paving the way for a GOP candidate to return to the White House.
To hold back the rising fuel prices, Biden could give up the environmental regulations hampering domestic oil supply, such as opening more public lands for exploration and production, approving pipeline construction, suspending the Renewable Fuel Standard, and reducing the gasoline tax. That, however, would be a blow to his climate agenda - an agenda that now appears to be rattling the oil industry and with this sink the American economy, which has already weathered a major health crisis in the form of the coronavirus pandemic.
Venezuela to the Rescue…or Not?
There have been speculations about Washington being ready to bury the hatchet with Venezuela amid the growing tensions between the US and Russia that led to Biden's import ban.
Caracas is, as acknowledged by the White House, "a large, very large producer of oil". Yet, due to the American sanctions from 2014 to 2020, Venezuela lost 98.6% of all foreign exchange earnings, with the allocations of PdVSA (Venezuela's state-owned oil company Petroleos de Venezuela) to the country's central bank plummeting more than 99%.
Now, according to reports by Bloomberg, Washington appears ready to relax the economic restrictions on Venezuela amid the Russian oil ban. This intention was not confirmed by the White House, with press secretary Jen Psaki assuring reporters that "currently" there are no discussions underway about imports of Venezuelan oil.
Many observers, however, refuse to rule out this possibility.

Americans Panic Hoard Ammo In Wake Of Russian Invasion Of Ukraine
Ever since Russian forces invaded Ukraine, Americans have panic hoarded all types of ammunition, according to a top US online gun retailer.
"A recent surge in consumer demand for small arms ammunition – the onset of which perfectly coincided with the Russian invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24, 2022," AMMO, Inc., a US-based ammunition and components manufacturer, said in a press release Friday.
Los Angeles-based Ammo reports between Feb. 24 and Mar. 10 that revenues surged 166%, and transactions are up 110% over the previous two weeks. Website traffic for the period is up 59%.
Customers in Texas, Florida, and Washington bought the most ammunition by volume. They mainly bought 9mm and 5.56x45. Here's the complete list of the top ten states for ammunition sales for the period.
"We noted a similar surge in demand for ammunition during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic," said Alex Horsman, marketing manager for Ammo.
"As neoconservatives and the mainstream media both began calling for American intervention in the Russian invasion, wary firearm enthusiasts sensed that the products they need to enjoy their favorite hobby could soon become scarce.
"Many Americans predict that a war effort would significantly limit the amount of ammunition available to consumers. Others fear that the Biden administration, via executive fiat, will somehow limit private sales of ammunition under the pretext that those products must be shipped overseas in support of the Ukrainian resistance."
Across the Mid-Atlantic area, Maryland-based gun shop The Machine Gun Nest notes that the conflict overseas has sparked buying interest for AR platform weapons and increased ammo sales in-store and on their online e-commerce shop.
"We have definitely seen a major surge in ammo sales here in the mid-Atlantic region. The war in Ukraine certainly sparked interest in the US, particularly among gun owners, who feel that the Ukrainian people are a testament to the absolute necessity of an armed population.
"We have seen sales of 9mm & 5.56mm skyrocket, with some customers purchasing as many as 20,000 rounds at a time. We've also seen increased demand for Russian ammo, with 7.62x39 and 5.45x39 seeing increased demand. The Biden Administration blocked the importation of Russian ammunition with sanctions in the fall of 2021, and the war has certainly added to the demand for these imports that are slowly drying up."
Taking a look at ammo prices via ammo tracking website Ammo Prices Now, they report 9mm prices are steady near 30 cents a round on Saturday. However, 5.56 has jumped 23% since the invasion, from .44 cents to .55 cents.
Also, internet searches for 5.56 ammo jumped to the highest level since January 2021, when people were panic buying guns and ammo due to the summer of social unrest in 2020.
The firearms market has since "cooled significantly from the height of the pandemic surge," according to Smith & Wesson Brands Inc.
However, with a larger pool of gun owners since the pandemic and corporate media feeding people wartime propaganda, another round of gun buying could be underway. Maybe this time around, people will be panic hoard larger caliber weapons because of war threats.

14 AGs Sue Biden Administration Over DOJ’s Call to Investigate Protesting Parents
Fourteen Republican attorneys general, led by Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita, have sued the Biden administration for not responding to a Freedom of Information request related to the Department of Justice calling for surveillance of parents expressing opinions at school board meetings and other forums.
The lawsuit follows a chain of events that began last October.
It was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana Indianapolis Division. It asks the court to force the Biden administration to respond to the requests for information.
It names President Joe Biden, Attorney General Merrick Garland, the U.S. Department of Justice, Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona, and the U.S. Department of Education as plaintiffs.
The coalition, led by Rokita, are from the states of Arizona, Arkansas, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Montana, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas and Utah.
On Oct. 4, Garland issued a memo on the “disturbing spike in harassment, intimidation, and threats of violence against school administrators, board members, teachers, and staff” and called for the FBI and other federal law enforcement agents to monitor activities in school districts nationwide.
Six months later, the attorneys general argue, the Biden administration has provided no evidence of any spikes in threats against school personnel by American parents.
Garland issued the memo after the National School Board Association (NSBA) sent a Sept. 29 letter to the Biden administration lamenting that parents were opposing the teaching of critical race theory and other divisive ideologies, referring to parental protests as “domestic terrorism.”
Garland’s memo “attacked dissent by parents during local school board meetings in an effort ‘to intimidate parents into giving up their constitutional rights to direct the upbringing and education of their children,’” the attorneys general argue.
They anticipated his memo was based “on the NSBA’s false accusations against parents.” Garland confirmed this during his Oct. 21 testimony before the U.S. House Judiciary Committee. He said, the “National School Board Association, which represents thousands of school boards and school board members, says that there are these kinds of threats. When we read in the newspapers reports of threats of violence.”
According to his testimony, the White House asked for examples of specific threats. However, no such threats were presented.
The National School Board Association apologized for the language it used in the letter the day after Garland testified, on Oct. 22. More than half of its state affiliates distanced themselves from the national group, some pulling dues and membership.
But these actions weren’t enough, the attorneys general argue. Garland still hasn’t rescinded his memo. And the administration hasn’t responded to their request for information six months later.

Can any anons or Jews tell me, what's the next 5 years of inflation look like?
As I understand it, you can't just shut down inflation very easily, once you grow the inflation to say.. 7% or 8%, you've got walk it back down in steps, 6%, 5%, 4, 3, before you get to a healthy 1%-2%.. otherwise money all jumps into bonds and other debt instruments, slows down the money multiplier too suddenly & can shock the economy to a halt.
Last time it got this high, (which is more than twice the average inflation we've had over the past 30 years) was back in the early 70s, and it didn't get this high as quickly either.. even back then it got worse & was stuck up there for 10 years before starting to slowly descend over the next 5-6 years..
So basically.. its a great time to take on a big chunk of long term debt, like a mortgage, because in the next 10 years, your loan will be half the intrinsic value..

I've got a catholic priest living across from me. He moved in last year when the other priest was re"moved" He's a real young guy. Doesn't come here but follows. I think he's at the end of his rope. He was over last night talking about all of the corruption. He lived in DC for awhile and is a son of a farmer.
Spouse and I asked him what was next. He said I have so many guns you wouldn't believe it. Thinks it's going to get real bad and says he's been preparing the people to take care of themselves. He knows the church has to come down. The pope and most under him need to go. Says there is a great divide in Catholicism with the good completely outnumbered. Says religion will have to fall. He and his dad bought some land not far from us with the intent to feed people.
Some know. We will have to keep that in mind when shit hits the fan. He says if you go to church and they are NOT talking about how to take care of yourself, find a place where they are.
He put up a Trump flag a few months ago. Made me smile.
